View Full Version : Hanging Gardens Landmark
Pounder Jun 23, 2007, 11:50 AM Here is my first large landmark intended for use in capture the flag and scenarios with victory points markers. (Maybe someone has some other use for them).
To use: create flat terrain area or place on an area that is flat preferably a fairly large flat area.
The land mark is 3 tiles in size and in the middle of some flat terrain place in an "<" shape to form the landmark, then you can place other tiles around it as you see fit.

Pounder Jun 23, 2007, 02:33 PM I'm working at adding more to the file, I have added a telescope and and aquaduct.
I know that these may not be the landmarks people are looking for, I am just trying to demonstrate the potential.
I would be willing to consider requests if someone has some ideas.
They do not have to be man made structures, just landmarks that are larger than one tile.

odintheking Jun 23, 2007, 05:31 PM Wow! that looks really great, man.
CC-2224 Jun 23, 2007, 11:10 PM Very nice, Pounder, it looks amazing!
Mirc Jun 24, 2007, 03:41 AM THAT IS GREAT!!! :woohoo:
Too bad the palace (the palace from the "palace view", not the palace building that's found always in your capital) doesn't have the isometric angle... Imagine the possibilities. But even so, it is great!

This looks very compelling. I'd love to see this in a game.
How would you do it? What purpose?
And what is an "<" shape?
Mirc Jun 26, 2007, 02:07 AM I means you have to do something like this:
.........1
.2.......
.........3
:)
Pounder Jun 26, 2007, 05:44 AM Here is a preview of some terrace farming, I still have to clean it up, but this is what it looks like so far.

Gen. Rommel Jun 26, 2007, 07:00 AM I've been trying to get a landmark looking properly on my Sengoku scenario, namely a revised version of your Mount. Fuji graphic, but the damn thing won't appear right where I want it. It seems that only certain predetermined areas make it appear, meaning the sites where it DOES appear are way too far away from the actual Mount. Fuji site.
These look good though. I can't think of any requests now, but maybe in the future. Just keep making these I would say. I wonder what a forbidden palace landmark would look like? Or even a Great Wall landmark (I'd love to see that one actually)? ;)
Virote_Considon Jun 27, 2007, 01:04 PM @Rommel: Try adding/taking away Hills and/or Mountains. They are what pre-determine what the mountains next to them look like.
Spacer One Jun 27, 2007, 06:15 PM Pounder, Id love to get you to make a "Stone Table" for Narnia...but only 2 squares if thats possible...these are incredible...I like the aquaduct most of all...
I wonder if any of the Zombie games could use a landmark, like say, a stadium...
[edit] I can get you pics if you are willing to take the request
WildWeazel Jun 27, 2007, 08:50 PM Great concept... I may try something like this for BfNY.

Thanks for the tip, I'll try fiddling with it a bit more.
By the way Pounder, is the limit of tiles useable at three per landmark or can it stretch beyond that. And does the exact form of the tiles matter or can one make them for instance, all in a straight line, because that's what it look like with the aqueduct?

I used 4 tiles for Killimanjaro,
and the aqueduct is actually 2 diagonal tiles (I know it doesn't look it, but it is).
Edit: I find it best to used triangle or diamond shaped. You can use use one over the other, or one beside the other, but you still end up wasting tiles because basically the diamond or triangle patterns persist.

I hope that gives you the idea...I was thinking that if you could teach me how you do it, I could make these in Bryce pretty easy
jackdubl Jul 04, 2007, 08:18 PM Hey, I've been trying to find a thread that has the graphics you use for strategic and luxury resources(like the oil spouting up instead of just pool of oil). Do you know where I could get them?
Jackdubl.

These are the ones I use, I have cut and pasted the ones I like into this file, then added the markers, I didn't make any of them.

If you want to do it yourself, that would be great, this is how I did it.
That took some thought, the way I did it, I cleared out a mountain tile, then assembled 4 of them to make a template to simulate how they would show in game, then I place the large object over the template.
Then you can cut pieces off and paste into your new file, the over lap doesn't matter because the tile corners will match perfectly.

jackdubl Jul 05, 2007, 10:24 AM I was looking for the oil spout resource from your screenshot at: http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=499
Do you still have it?

Pounder Jul 05, 2007, 04:47 PM How about this file. This is the one I am now using, I was using the wrong one for some reason. Thanks for making me notice.

Pounder Jul 06, 2007, 05:00 AM Here is an alternate. While I had the file open I thought I would modify it a bit. I changed the Oasis and the Spices. I actually made a new Oasis combining the two existing Oasis into a larger one with more sand, trees and water across the bottom.

Aldaron Aug 11, 2007, 09:34 AM Could someone make a landmark using the first european city graphics?
This in fact.

Ozymandias Sep 12, 2009, 09:47 AM :bump: Just an arcane thought: how about a city set based around the HG. The observatory could even appear in the industrial/ modern set(s).
No established, historical culture group - and that's the point :)
Best,
Oz
