View Full Version : Great Spy Points and Wonders?
Martinus Jun 27, 2007, 03:08 AM Since the thread about espionnage, where I posted about this somehow disappeared ( ), here's one only about it - since we now have a new Great Person type that is generated the same way as vanilla Great People (as opposed to Great Generals), I think it makes sense some of the wonders get reshuffled to allow for Great Spy generation, instead of whatever GPP they are now contributing too.
What do you think will be the likely candidates and how do you think it will affect the game strategy?
In my opinion, the most likely ones are the government and military-related wonders (in parentheses the great person points they give now):
Great Wonders:
The Kremlin (GA)
The Pentagon (GE)
The United Nations (GM)
Versailles (GM)
National Wonders:
Forbidden Palace (GM)
Mt. Rushmore (GA)
West Point (GE)
Since Scotland Yard is now an Academy-type building, buildable by a Great Spy, it is no longer a National Wonder.
Some additional possible candidates:
Great Wall (GE) - to represent protective/counter-espionnage effort (but not so sure about that one)
Martinus Jun 27, 2007, 08:46 AM Weird, I thought it would be an interesting speculation yet the thread gets no love.
Innawerkz Jun 27, 2007, 08:53 AM Not that it won't get love, but a lot of this information has been revealed. :coffee:
You are accurate on a good number of your 'suggestions' on where Great Spy Points will come from. Also, the civic "Police State" increases the number of Spy Points you generate and Jails allow you Spy Specialists.
bonafide11 Jun 27, 2007, 10:34 AM I'm still bitter than Great Spies are born like regular Great People. I think they needed to make them more like Warlords. I think Philosophical might be too powerful in BTS.
Krikkitone Jun 27, 2007, 11:49 AM Well if they are like other Great people, then Philosphical doesn't get any Boost to anything but its diversity, because every Great Spy you get Could have been another Great Person.
Watiggi Jun 27, 2007, 12:04 PM True, but it essentially says that being Philosophical means that they're better at espionage. That's a tad strange I would have thought.
Where was it confirmed that Great Spy Points are standard Great People Points? Because I can see it as being different.
Also, where was it confirmed that Police State gives a bonus to Spy points? (Sorry, just struggling to keep up with the info)

Hmm... I went on a quick search for my 'source' but it appears it was from the unmentionable thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=228716). Sorry if it proves to be misleading.
When I read it, it made sense to me. Having your cities on lock-down and your officials free to interrogate would garner more intel on the going ons. So I took it at face value.
I hope it is true. Though it might lead to some peculiar civic combinations if "it is confirmed that Great Spy Points are standard Great People Points".
Police State with Pacifism = rapidly generated great spies with powerful missions accomplished regularly. :faint:
bonafide11 Jun 27, 2007, 10:17 PM I don't think it has been confirmed that great spies are part of the standard great person system yet, but that's how most people seem to feel. I personally hope it's not... I would like to see Imperialism gaining that bonus

It is probably more likely Police state gives a bonus to Espionage Points NOT Great Spy points

I agree. I'm speculating here but based on what I remeber from the unauthorised disclosure that was withdrawn, I guess Police State will give a 25% bonus to all your cities generation of Espionage points (not Spy GPPs) as well as the -50% War weariness. But it will probably lose its current 25% boost to military production or the civic would be too powerful. So if that's true when in Police State you would normally increase your Espionage slider and maybe allocate Spy specilists (to generate espionage points).
Martinus Jun 28, 2007, 04:11 AM Yeah, I think it is likely Police State will work like Caste System, only for spy specialists.
Arwon Jun 28, 2007, 04:19 AM I'd have thought Protective should give a bit of a boost to espionage.

Agreed. I had my sentence in reverse.
Police State = "powerful missions accomplished regularly" because of the reported +25% Espionage Point generation.
Pacifism = "rapidly generated great spies" if they are tied into the standard :gp: generation.
I'd have thought Protective should give a bit of a boost to espionage.
Of all of the trait boost suggestions I've read, this one offers the most persuasive argument. Of course, since the castle city improvement is receiving a boost to Espionage Point generation, Protective is indirectly getting an advantage on espionage.
