Okay yes another complaining thread but this is actually about gameplay rather then some silly technical thing like wrong leader or incorrect UB.

Corporations is what SOLD the game to me when it was first announced, but now, I know I shouldn't be complaining before I play the game, but I just can't stand why Firaxis chose to do it this way.

Right now it appears that the anyone can just march their corporations into a city and charge the hosting cities maintance fees for it. WTF?

First of all, this is an example of how being UNREALISTIC IS NOT FUN. Who on earth wants that to happen to them? And with the improved AI...

Shouldn't we be allowed to place taxes/tariffs/duties on corporations in exchange for a dilpomatic penalty? I mean it is just ridiculous how you have to pay money for their corporation.

Also it is dumb how an executive can just set up a corporation branch. Rather it should have to get the permission of whoever owns the city and maybe even negociate specific terms like tax rates.

It is ridiculous how the only balance is mercantilism and state property. Because that blocks corporations. What if I don't want to do that? We should be allowed to work out deals on the diplo screen. For example there could be a "Grant Access to Corporations" on the side for each player and then people work out what they want.

I was initially excited about Corporations but from what has been said I think they implemented it in a very dumb way. I guess only time will tell.

Now I wait for someone to tell me I misunderstood what I read. :)

If you don't want someone else's corps in your city, use mercantalism or state property

:P Might wanna read more carefully next time Bonafide.

Honestly, I'm not too terribly excited about the whole corporation thing. If anything you should make money when corporations enter your city, from money you get from taxing them, and there should probably be also be a sped up growth with all the jobs it attracts.

Corporations could've been implemented in a very cool way, instead it just seems unfun.

Then again, I might change my mind when I actually play the game.

If we know exactly how much gold/turn it's costing us, we can make a decision based on the benefits that we get from the corp. But if we don't, it will just create an uneasy feeling that I am being bled dry.

Am I spending too much on military, or is it those damn corps? Is my overseas empire too expensive, or is it those damn corps?

Spreading corporations via executives is not identical to spreading religions via missionaries. Mainly because it costs gold to spread a corporation in this manner. The cost dramatically increases for foreign civilizations.

About a week ago - less even - I was quite worried about how corporations were being implemented. I'm not now.

i think it's called free market for a reason. if you don't want other corporations setting foot in your territory, that kind of policy you're looking for is probably called mercantilism or state property in this game, i.e. i don't see much wrong with the currently proposed system (from the reviews/infos released anyway) conceptually.

I am sure you CAN find out how much the corporation is costing you, (although I think what looks like the costs in screenshots are too high)

The fact is it really won't matter whether a corporation is foreign or domestic, that is only a 4 gold balance, the main issue is whether corporations are worthwhile to have in your city or not.

I think that if you open a corporation in a foreing city, that city not only pays the fees but receives also the benefits. So you must carefully weigth if the money you get from the corp is enough to compensate for the benefits your adversary gets from it.

Example: Are you sure you want to expand Standard Ethanol and give oil to Montezuma?

The 4 gold will matter too because with a 200 % bonus in the HQ city (bank / market / grocer / wall street), it will earn 12 gold per city (120 golds for 10 cities !! :hammer2: ) It will be a huge bonus.

Yes, and I can just see someone getting one of their best cities with a Holy Shrine for a widely spread religion that has been adopted by his neighbours and then founding 2 Corporations in that city as well. The gold income multiplied by the best modifiers will be astounding.
