View Full Version : Beyond the Gun?
Grishnash Jun 28, 2007, 08:22 PM Hey, I haven't seen this anywhere. But will you be able to get mechwalkers in normal games? Like go from swords to lasers? And if so, then when will the game end? 2142?
And will you stay in the ages any longer with all the push backs of techs?
And just how is AirWarfare made better? i saw they get pemotes and all but does that mean they can kill units now?
Just a few questions, hope they weren't asked before, making this spam:(
kniteowl Jun 28, 2007, 08:24 PM You can Mod in Next Wars into your normal game I heard, Next Wars is the Mod that goes beyond the Year 2050 with all the mechs and stuff.
And if you want to go further then that, then you can play Final Frontier which is basically Civ4 in Space.
Dutch Canuck Jun 29, 2007, 12:31 AM Next Wars is both a scenerio and a mod. The Firaxis website explains that you can choose to play Next Wars as a stand alone scenerio, or you can load it as mod to the main game. We all now have the option to have GDRs and mega tanks, and other fun near-future stuff, in our "epic" games! Woo-hoo! :D
As to other specific details, I did not see them yet.
Tsukasa Jun 29, 2007, 07:18 AM thats great that they made this optional!
cant wait to test it
Mewtarthio Jun 29, 2007, 03:53 PM I must admit, even if it's only my own cynical desire to silence the people who want mechs in the epic game, I'm happy about the Next War mod option. Who else here thinks they added the mod option later, after everyone started topics on getting that tech in the main game?
Sinapus Jun 29, 2007, 04:59 PM Pah. Mechwalkers. No one noticed the Bolos?
(Sure, it's called a "Dreadnought" or something like it, but it's a Bolo. MkIII or so, I'd guess.)
GeoModder Jun 30, 2007, 08:17 AM Keith Laumer goes Civ?
Antilogic Jul 01, 2007, 04:15 AM thats great that they made this optional!

Precisely, so I don't have to put up with mechs in my expanded epic game! It's a win-win!
Sinapus Jul 02, 2007, 01:29 PM Keith Laumer goes Civ?
Something like that. :mischief:
Grishnash Jul 02, 2007, 02:43 PM Oh, well, It's good to know i'll be able to go from swords to lasers :D
Makes blowing things up that much more easy! But what about the other Qs?
Grishnash Jul 02, 2007, 08:31 PM Oh, and what year will the game end in if you play with the mod? now that you can get up to mechs I hope you can pass 2050 in a time vic

Actually, I think you can mod this in an XML file somewhere. I'm sure somebody has looked into it, extending the game for another 100 years or so on the timeline.
PimpyMicPimp Jul 02, 2007, 11:43 PM I wonder how painful an epic game marathon speed Next Wars game will be...
Antilogic Jul 03, 2007, 01:54 AM I'm not even trying. I like taking it "from the top" in Epic games, but only on the Epic speed. I can't bear Marathon.
On the plus side, the new "Advanced Start" feature will be great for Marathon games--now I can start in the Classical Age, or wherever else I want, and avoid waiting 20 some turns for my next warrior to be built. Or the 50+ turn wait for a settler.
aronnax Jul 03, 2007, 04:44 AM No I wont buy such an expansion! Sci-Fi, along with fantasy, is the biggest pain in genre history.
Rusty Edge Jul 03, 2007, 02:30 PM If they put in mechs do they include Jedi Knights as the counter, or Ewoks with Redwood logs?;)
Danielos Jul 03, 2007, 03:00 PM Now, if they only could add civs like Atlantis and Troy to spice our imaginations a bit more... :mischief:
Krikkitone Jul 03, 2007, 05:43 PM Well I'm guessing the Next War mod will have unique Civs + Leaders,
EU, (Ethiopian Union)
UK, (United Kingdom of Great Britain and North America)
CIS,(Caliphate of Indonesian States)
NATO, (New Antarctic Trade Organization)
So possibly in the "Mod" version, you will be able to play with them as well as regular normal civs like the Native Americans and the HRE.
anandus Jul 03, 2007, 08:00 PM Yeah, I can't wait to crush everyone under my Dreadnought-tanks :P
Is there any more info about Next War? Units, techs, does things?
(Apart from the cyborg, megatank and robot walkers)
