so this is the portuguese flag:

and this is a traditional portuguese soup:

get my point?

i don't want to criticise or anything... indeed a funny coincidence, but couldn't the flag simbol be more simple? (and the colors not so similiar to a soup?)

here we go on our carracks spreading soup to world :scan:

they didn't even use that flag in the exploration age.

So, is the soup any good?

I think a lot depends on that. I mean, if it's really nice soup...

That's from Rhye's and he dosen't always use the same flags ad Firaxis.

It's funny how that Cadiz City is practically rotting.

Funny i miss-spelled rotting by adding to i's by accident, and my spell check says i meant Lithuanians. Weird eh?

That is weird.

But @ the original poster: would you suggest something else?

I don't really worry about the flags, since I usually change out the flags of some of my 'favored' civs as I see fit. (Actually, I may go with the 19th century Portuguese flag, just b/c I like the color scheme better: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flag_of_Portugal.)

At least the Portuguese 'color' is a nice dark, rich, green. That's good. There are some civs I don't play (such as Persia,) just because I don't like their color-coding. :D

EDIT: Wait a minute. This is a scenario. What does the flag look like in the 'real' game?

This was the Portuguese flag in the time of D.João II

Another option would be the Christ's Order ( the unofficial sponsor of our discoveries )

I guess a good idea would be the flag of the Portugese monarchy:

well i really like the soup indeed

the current flag is the whole shield in dark red over dark green
the faction simbols tend to be the simplest possible, and they could stick to that

i would just keep the center (white flag with blue shields) but then white and blue colours are already taken so i understand the color choice

then again this thread is just a joke, i don't care much if the flag reminds me of soup

^Vietnamese beef noodle soup (with a smattering of various spices), beef can be substited with any meat if so desired.

If the animation of the carrack on this site is to be believed:
http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/beyondthesword/
they're using the white flag with the red cross on it. (For some reason, the picture has a blue cross and the animation has a red one.)

The official Portuguese flag from Joao's time would look pretty messy when scaled down ... too many small symbols.

it seems really good!

That screenshot is definitely from Rhye's scenario (as mentioned earlier in this post... you can tell by the civ progress charts on the lower right), so I wouldn't assume that the flag is the official BtS Portuguese flag just yet.

Even if it is though, it's not too bad-- it is a red cross in a circle, right? The green background probably helps to bring out the red instead of a traditional white (and make it easier to distinguish from the red/white flag of England). Green is not a bad color... color of money, and the Congo jungles, and the Atlantic... all things the Portuguese liked. ;)

Try RFC: http://forums.civfanatics.com/forumdisplay.php?f=204 Annexing civ that just spawned isn't very easy ;)

If you look to the #1 post picture, you'll see that the symbols are already ther and in a even smaller scale, just in a 2 color version ( the Caldo verde ( name of the soup) version  )

I can't believe you said that... we have been invaded so many times and we still here, (you can go a long way with City Garrison III ;))
Portugal shows that the resistance is very powerful; not like in Civ, where the army its all

Thats from Rhyes, because spanish symbol is not that one.

Would not be bad tough. But its possible to do better, I have my avatar to prove it.

I'm surprised nobody mentioned the change in the Spanish color from peach to Incan yellow.

I'm wondering what the colors will be in the main game, not in Rhye's scenario (no offense intended to Rhye, but I'm starting in the main game single player).
