Hiawatha awoke from the dream. The Great Spirit had come to him again. This dream was more troubling than the last.

In the first dream, the Great Spirit had shown Hiawatha great things. His people, powerful and prosperous, were a force to be reckoned with in the world. As his dream progressed, it showed his people, the Iroquois, controlling more land than any other nation, secure from the barbarians, which raid them at present.

This dream started as the first did. However, his people did not settle and cultivate the lands. Indeed, this dream was not like the first. This dream was one of utter destruction. His people were hunted down and slaughtered. They were not even given the respect of the buffalo. They were hunted for game, for pleasure.

Hiawatha now knew what he must do. He must gather his people, and forge them into a single nation. This is what the Great Spirit showed must be done if the Iroquois are to survive.
It would be a long road. The Great Spirits vision lasted the span of 4000 years, but as Hiawatha has always believed, it was the ONLY road to take.
And so it was in the year of the awakening that the Iroquois settled the land.
========
Hiawatha knew that he must survey the land in order to learn what secrets it held. As his scouts went forth, they found no one. This was very fortunate, for the Great Spirit was truly watching them. Once more, there were many minor tribes which paid tribute to the Iroquois people in the form of new technology.
Then one day, the scouts reported that they had spotted a new tribe, the Egyptians. They too possessed some technology, but were very backwards, and only had two towns. Because of their distance, Hiawatha did not attack, for he lacked the proper units in area, and it would take much too long for his warriors to get there. He sent his people to start towns in the east. He must control the land to the east and prevent the Egyptians from getting it.
Then more news came. There was NOONE in the west. This was very good news, for the land west was vast. Hiawatha knew that if he could prevent the Egyptians from cross what was now his land, he could develop and settle the west as his pleasure.
=========
Hiawatha was asleep in his hut when someone knocked on the front post.

"Chief, our scouts have returned with urgent news."

Blast the guard for awaking him?
"What now, don't you know what time it is?"

"Forgive Chief, but..." stammered the guard.

Well, no sleep now, might as well get up and see what is so important?
"Bring him in."

The scout was helped in. He was badly exhausted.
"Chief, I bring news of new tribes, and of what the Egyptians are doing."

"What new tribes?"

"Past of the Egyptians are the Germans, the Americans, the Persians, the Greeks, the Aztecs..."

"That many?"
What is going on here. There were many more nations that what was in the dream. No matter, for the Egyptians were between the Iroquois and them. Now what is this that the Egyptians are up too?
"What is this news of the Egyptians?"

"Chief, they have began to encroach on our lands. They hunt our game, and defile our crops."

Hiawatha eyes grew small and cold. He must send a emissary to these Egyptians, and force them to acknowledge who was destined to rule....

Hiawatha called a meeting of the council of elders. He wanted to get their imput before be meet with the ambassador from Egypt.

“Chief, we should not tolerate any intrusion into our lands. We should attack at once!”

Hiawatha looked at Running Bear, his military advisor. Running Bear was a very capable and loyal leader, but lacked the vision and foresight.

“We cannot attack now, Running Bear. We lack sufficient power to attack. Chief, we have many technologies which the Egyptians do not. In fact, we have mastered many technologies which noone else in the world has. As a result, we can produce better military units. The drawback is that it takes us longer to produce a Pikeman than it does for Egypt to produce two or three warrior units. And as you know, pikeman, while sufficient to ward off attack, are not sufficient to in turn attack…” Good, at least his domestic advisor can be counted on for some long range vision.

Now here was the key to the matter. The Iroquois lacked sufficient production to maintain a war and continue to expand in the western lands.

“Why are they in our lands?”

This time, the minister of intelligence spoke up…
“They covet our western lands. They want to expand into them. They lack the way to get there by sea, so they send their settlers through our lands.”

“If Egypt were to declare war, can we defend ourselves?”

“Without a doubt Chief.” Replied Running Bear.

“So now it is a question of whether or not to focus on a war, which will limit our expansion and growth, or continue to expand and build our infrastructure. I am more inclined to wait, and build strong units. When I decide to attack the Egyptians, I want to do it decisively.”

Running Bear looked disappointed, as he gets up and leaves.

“Send in the ambassador.”

-----

“Greeting Chief. What may the mighty empire of Egypt do for you?”

This was the height of arrogance. They will pay for this, but not quite yet. Egypt is indeed powerful. Not as powerful as the Iroquois, but close enough that a war now would be costly. Time to find out how far the Egyptians are willing to push things.
“Please explain your troops presence in our sacred lands.”

“Chief, they are merely passing through, and will not interfere with your people at…”

Hiawatha cut him off.
“And what gives you the right to encroach on our lands?”

“Forgive us Chief, we did not know that you would object. Do not worry, our troops will leave your lands short enough.”

Interesting. They are not going to push us too hard. This seems more like an exercise to see how I would respond. A bluff.
“Your troops will leave our lands forthwith on their own, or they will be forced out.”

“Chief, our troops will leave as your request, but I am concerned by your aggressive stance. We merely..”

“Ambassador, if your troops do not leave, or if you ever enter our lands again, I will strangle you so hard that my fingerprints will show up on the necks of your grandchildren. The Iroquois people will not tolerate any intrusion into our sacred lands.”

“As you wish.” Replied the ambassador, leaving in a hurry.

Hiawatha thought to himself. Well, now the brand is in the fire. Time to see if they will withdraw. In the mean time, I need to send some well armed troops to the border.

Made me weep. The thing I miss most from CTP was the warrior looking up and asking "who are these spirits?" in a desolate map that seemed devoid of life.

At least, that's what I thought he was saying.

And it came to pass, in the year of the Great Fall, the Great Spirit said "enough is enough," and waved his might hand over the landscape known as the hard drive, wiping all vestages of what was known from existance.

Needless to say, translation, my computer crashed and I lost this game :(. I will have to start another story game shortly...
