I have only one group, one rule in Map Finder: Deserts Min 0, Max 999

and it won't save anything. Any ideas? It wasn't saving anything on the setings I wanted and I worked down to just this and it still saves nothing.

Isn't that an impossible rule?;) You are asking for minimum of zero AND a maximum of 999 deserts. If you don't want any deserts, why not set up the rule with minimum of zero and maximum of zero deserts? Just guessing...

Do you have the correct save path set? Also, does MF run? Does it continue to regenerate maps? I had this problem once and managed to fix it, though for the life of me I can't remember how. Sorry, I know that really helped! :D

No, it's saying that he wishes to save any game that has at least 0 deserts, but not more than 999. In other words, every map.

If you don't want any deserts, why not set up the rule with minimum of zero and maximum of zero deserts? Just guessing...

I believe he's wanted MF to save every map, rather than select ones. Granted, I believe he's just testing it to see if it even works.

ya know, I never got MapFinder to save any maps for me either...not sure if Denniz ever figured out why it was doing that for me.

The default save path needs to be set for both versions. Running Civ4_Map_Finder.exe and letting it change the defaults for both versions is the easiest. It will then look for your saves in the Save folder under the Civ4_Map_Finder folder. (default install is to My Documents\My Games\).

Another thing people have pointed out is that changes to the rules file require an exit / restart of Civ4 to take effect. BTW, I find the easiest way to change the rules file is to go into the rule builder (select the version you want to change first) and save the rule file. It will update the options as long as the checkbox is set.

Once you are sure you have the options set correctly, if it still doesn't seem to work turn on logging to see if you are getting any errors. You have to change you CivilizationIV.ini file. There is one in each version in your "My Documents\My Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4" and "My Documents\My Games\Warlords" folders.

; Set to 1 for no python exception popups
HidePythonExceptions = 0

; Enable the logging system
LoggingEnabled = 1

; Overwrite old network and message logs
OverwriteLogs = 1

; Enable message logging
MessageLog = 1

ya know, I never got MapFinder to save any maps for me either...not sure if Denniz ever figured out why it was doing that for me.I have to admit that I haven't set up any test for that yet. :blush: It is quite a tedious process to verify what it is doing. Procrastination is my middle name.

no worries, I don't have time to use MapFinder right now anyway...and I actually kinda preferred saving the games myself, and just not having to tell it to regenerate a map every single time...let it run till I saw one I liked :D

I'm sure it's quite tedious...I'm still learning programming stuff(only have a solid grasp on Java and a somewhat shaky grasp on PHP), and I already have figured out that bug finding can easily take longer than actually programming something.

It is working fine for me. I don't know what I did wrong. It was saying "Saves 0" though. One thing may have been that I think I had deleted the "Save File Location" icon thing in the Saves folder. I wanted to get rid of all the saves in there and just deleted everything. Don't know if it needs that thing in there. Another problem seemed to be that I had MapFinder and Civ open and was changing the Rules. Now I am closing Civ whenever I want to change the MapFinder Rules and then re-starting Civ and it seems to work fine.

The text file is there to force the install program to create the folder. ;)
