Fall from Heaven has achieved an overwhelming victory in the Strategy Category
The The professional Judges from Industry and Press have chosen among the best: See here the whole table of Results (http://www.gameflood.com/Index.cfm/Mod/Contest/stgAct/ContestLanding)

Judges' Comments

“This mod is, BY MILES, the best mod in recent memory.” – Graeme Bayless of Kush Games

“1 in my book by far. This one is hard to even view as a mod …truly a mod masterpiece” – Dustin Hansen of Polystew

And a big Thank you goes to this community for an amazing score of over 2000 points!!!!! by votes and downloads in the voting phase

The prize was $3,000. The team voted on what to do with the winnings and we decided to donate it to Unicef.

For the future:
this is what the Gameflood page says:
More Contests Coming Soon
This is only the first of many exciting GameFlood contests. Become a member today and we'll keep you informed about our upcoming contests and events.

If you want to say thank you and support FfH in the future, stay with us and help us out the next time :)

Anyway, if you happen to visit the Gameflood site...
You should also leave us a comment after voting, for those guys who dont know what FfH is all about.
Registering is not bad at all, the guys from Gameflood are friendly and want to build up a cross games modding central, which is a good idea and will help modding in future. So, registering, voting, commenting will not lead to trouble! (and their download manager really speeds up downloads :))

Thank you for your support!
You are great!

It takes about 2 minutes to register, and you only need an e-mail address to sign-up....... how about a bit of gratitude for someone who's worked their arse off for your entertainment? :dunno:

oh, I see the reason in guys like QES (nothing against you, i like you :)), who undoubtedly like the mod, but don`t think it is worth spending 2 mins registering somewhere to vote for us :(
(you wont get any spam from them, except you subscribe somewhere, which is optional!)

By the way, gameflood is an alternative download side for those having trouble with 3d downloads.

It s up to you guys, how much glory and attention you think FfH II deserves...

No the voting on the standing stage is updated daily while the counter on the FFH page is updated real time. Check back tommorow to see who's winning. FFH will easily win in the RTS category but to actually win it needs to beat the FPS category aswell which may be tough. If people don't vote.

It doesn't need to beat any FPS games. This is the process:

The community votes on mods in the major catergories (of which we are RTS mods). At the close of voting the top 10 from this voting will be review by judges to determine the top 1, 2 and 3 for that category. Prizes are awarded to mods that win those places.

I found answer: It's closing at 16. July. Just how comes we got only 1 point so far? And we do have great shot at 1st place, or at least 10th, I'm sure judges will find FfH very worth vile. And another thing: One great advantage FfH has over C&C mod currently at the first place: It has no AI support, while FfH has done some things to AI that were previously thought impossible.

Greetings from GameFlood, everyone!

I just wanted to pop in and assure you all that it's perfectly safe to register with us; we don't give or sell your registration information to ANYONE, anywhere, for any reaon. Please don't let our modest 2-minute sign-up process prevent you from voting for your favorite mod team (ESPECIALLY for FfH)!

Also, a special tidbit for the FfH team; have you seen our list of judges yet? Check it out:
http://www.gameflood.com/contest_judges

With that said I'm going to bow out, but please let me know if there's any questions I can answer for anyone. We can always be reached at support@gameflood.com.

Thanks all! Best of luck to the FfH team, and of course to all our other entrants as well!

Despite my reluctance to sign up for GameFlood, I couldn't pass up an
opportunity to support the creators of this most awesome game.

But I might have written something I shouldn't have in the comments. I noticed that there is a game developers focus to that site and so I put in a good word for the team. Thinking that perhaps there might be some opportunity for you to break into the game development world. But now today I wonder if I shouldn't have put it out there like I did. Here is what I said....

"BTW.. if you are a developer looking for talent, I think it would be wise to consider this team. From design and writing to art these folks have done a brilliant job. Furthermore they frequently update this game and remain active within the community. Sometimes I don''t know how they do it while managing to hold down real world jobs. The FfH Team is rich with motivation, dedication, and creativity."

I apologize if I shouldn't have said that.

TheJopa

Well definitely no one will be mad at you because you wrote something good about them, in worst case Kael will politely refuse some applications because of misunderstanding and because there is a limit on how many people can efficiently work on mod at one time, and recommend them some other good teams.

It's not possible to join the FFH developement without being accepted as Firaxis Betatester as well. Also I don't think there's need of many more members since the team is already big and has an awesome community that gives a lot of support but if modders from Gameflood get excited with modding civ because of FFH and the other civmods taking part of the contest this could really do good to the CFC community in general. There are many modprojects out there searching for talents and I really hope we don't only get new players for FFH but also new modders lured into CFC. If that happens the contest was well worth it.

Its not unneccessary, but in fact, we have the most votes. The other mods with a higher score have downloads from the past, like 300 and 500 downloads, which gives them a huge score.... so with us uploading the absolute brilliant (;)) version 0.23 to gameflood... hehe you know what :)

I would love to see some of the team members go into professional game design, they definitly have the talent.

Personally Im to far along to be changing careers at this point. Im better at what I do for a living than I am at game design, and although I do love game design I love what I do for a living too (and it pays better). So I will forever work to work and design as a hobby.

Speaking of my professional life I was interviewed for a book that was released a few months ago. This doesn't have anything to do with modding or anything, just came about because of some things I was working on professionally. Those that can't get enough Kael can check it out at: Service Excellence @ Novell (http://www.amazon.com/Service-Excellence-Novell-Taking-Customer/dp/9077256113/ref=sr_1_7/002-6943340-0732051?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1184010699&sr=8-7). I may never have looked more forward to a friday than I do this one!!
(its at least in my top twenty I'm sure)

What industry within the service industry do you work in Kael? I've managed companies (low to mid level) in a few different service industries (food service, retail, security, construction). I'm fascinated by the logistics that make businesses work. Making improvements to manpower and material usage along with increasing efficiency in product/service throughput is why I think I've been placed in a managerial role so often. But I'm thinking its time to get out of the blue collared laboring gypsy lifestyle I've been living and pick an outfit for which I can pursue my passion of increasing workplace efficiency. Does that book cover any aspect of that? And have you any experience with companies which specialize in workplace efficiency? (sort of like a production floor version of a comptroller)

Im a computer support guy. I specialize in directories (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Directory_services) and I work with large companies (banks, insurance companies, the government).

The book is about customer service, the non-technical aspects of building an effective (and profitable) support organization. It goes through the four fears (mistakes, pain, failure, rejection), identifying and dealing with the four customer conditions (irate, insistent, indesisive, comfortable), the self talk cycle, etc.

A lot of these things are already understood (even if they dont put names to them) by good customer service people. What the book tries to do is to wrap a common language around these concepts so companies can begin talking about them to help provide a consistent higher level of customer service.

Much needed. At least my experience with german companies is that the only focus seems to be moneymaking/reducing costs. Quality of service has been going down since years. Mostly taken over by external callcenters which employ students like me who don't really know anything about the products they are supposed to support since they aren't even part of the company which produces them and don't have any background related to the production of the products they support.

Hi guys, have a look at the score table on Gameflood:
The Voting part of the Contest has ended.... (http://www.gameflood.com/Index.cfm/Mod/Contest/stgAct/ContestLanding)

Thank you for an amazing score of over 2000 points!!!!!
Which sadly has been generated mostly by downloads and not by actual votes.... :/
Anyway,... everything from now on will be decided by professional judges....
we will get the final results announced on the 27th of July... wish us luck :)

As you are aware, GameFlood is scheduled to announce the winners of the $25,000 Map and Mod Contest on July 27th, 2007. Due to the depth and high quality of submissions, judging is taking longer than expected and regrettably, we have to delay the contest results until August 3rd, 2007. This delay is to ensure the fairest judging possible for all parties. If you have any questions regarding the delay, please drop us a line at contact@gameflood.com. Thank you for your patience and we extend our sincerest apologies to all the developers involved.

Yours sincerely,

The GameFlood Team

Made a great mod, but overall I must say that Fall From Heaven gave me much more fun, I played it from 0.60 and every time I play it it is a great game, while I can't say so for Rhye's, if only because I only played 2 games of it. Plus FfH has much more brilliant features, design hotspots, graphics... generally it feels like it involved more work. Rhye's a great mod and I enjoy playing it (if just loadings were just a bit shorter!), but Fall From Heaven is still better in every aspect.

Congratulations folks...

I can't fake being surprised. I would have been only if this wasn't the outcome. The quotes short as they are still say it all. It is a full blown STR Game based on the civ4 engine. And as a game it excels in every aspect.

I actually like to stress the high artistic value of FfH. This aspect is quite breath taking and it overwhelms the player at the first encounter with the MOD.

My best wishes for a yet higher levels of excellence with the awaited coming release for BTS.

The prize was $3,000. The team voted on what to do with the winnings and we decided to donate it to Unicef.

The idea is generous, indeed. And it is at the team credit.

Unfortunately, on 3000usd you give to this organization, 80% will be use for:
- buying Expensive Toyota Land-Cruisers (in Mozambique: 85.000usd. They use it for bringing their experts from the airport to the Delegation)
- paying the renting fees of the locals (ex.: in a 2 houses-block, converted in office, it is 13.000usd/month)
- pay for the rent of the experts' house: 2000 to 2500usd/month
- paying the studies, reports and tons of bla bla that ar invoiced at 300000usd or 400000usd each
- paying the "experts" coming for short and nmedium term missions. A technical assistance of 2 to 3 people costs about 450000usd/year (includes al logistical expenses

At the end, only 40% will be used for actually doing something with kids. And less will reach the kids, because of corruption.

It is the problem with all official organisations as they have to pay for a lot of "fat" before reaching the flesh.
I do not say this for diminishing the merit of the action, but for replacing into context. And I know very well the context...

In any poor country I went and worked in, I always saw NGOs doing a MUCH better job than ANY official organizations. Most NGOs (example: "Doctors without borders, Handicap Internationnal, ..." use the dollar you give for exactly what was intented for, with not-so-well paid volunteers but with a big heart (and not carreer-oriented experts), with second-hand no-air-conditionner pick-ups, and lots and lots of courage without suit and tie...
