View Full Version : New Patch

I don't know if it will come to this, but if the admins ask us, as a team, to vote on whether or not to upgrade, I'd vote NO: That is tantamount to changing the rules in the middle of the game.

Of course, this could make it tougher for turnplayers, as they may need to have dual copies of the game on their computers.

Anyone else have any thoughts on this?

Yeah, that's a tough call. Sounds like the patch does some good things… but since the patch would especially harm 1 team, it's hard to see how that would be fair.

The no chopping bonus will effect us as we are probalby the team using that to its utmost.

I have no problem runnign two versions. I will get not upgrade 1 computer :)

So now it looks like a vote may happen on this....

I'm for whatever will keep the game alive.

I guess Piffle and Aloha weren't able to come to a peace arrangement while the game gets patched :(

But unlike Mr. Robi D[epressing], I'm NOT in favor of letting this game die. I would even leave Epsilon and join another team if it would help keep the game going.

I vote upgrade.

I agree. BTW who are the game admins?

Edit: Found them: RegentMan, Ginger_Ale

I vote too/to (both are needed ;) ) (upgrade) as our chopping bonus will be easier to walk away from in favor of emancipation.

So Conroe has held the game up. Conroe asked for the vote knowing that with 4 teams (and a slow game) that the vote will be too patch up.

Interesting.... I think that with all the posting and messaging over the past few days Conroe could have squeeked the turn in? No?

I think he is waiting for a patch as that stack of units will have an easier go if there are weaker cossacks...

I think we know what we're voting?

Upgrading will be easiest. Now do not forget that the new BTS patch has changed things in the Vanilla version.

Correct. Here's something that was posted in the HOF forums that may be of use to some of you:

@playshogi
Yes, 3.13 changes your vanilla and warlords assets so you can't run the HOF mod with those assets. Most people dual install but I found an easier (but less elegant) solution: (I'm assuming standard directory).

Assuming you've just installed the 3.13 patch and haven't rolled back the installations:

1) Rename the CvGameCoreDLL.dll in c:\program files\firaxis games\sid meier's civilization\assets as bts.dll
2) Rename the CvGameCoreDLL.dll in c:\program files\firaxis games\sid meier's civilization\warlords\assets as bts.dll
3) Reinstall the vanilla 1.74 patch
4) Reinstall the warlords 2.13 patch
5) Make a copy of the CvGameCoreDLL.dll in c:\program files\firaxis games\sid meier's civilization\assets but rename as vanilla.dll
6) Make a copy of the CvGameCoreDLL.dll in c:\program files\firaxis games\sid meier's civilization\warlords\assets but rename as warlords.dll
7) On your desktop, open a notepad document and save it as vanilla.bat. Place the following text in it:

cd C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets
del CvGameCoreDLL.dll
copy Vanilla.DLL CvGameCoreDLL.dll
cd ..
Civilization4.exe

8) Again, open a notepad document and save this one as warlords.bat. Enter the following:

cd C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Warlords\Assets
del CvGameCoreDLL.dll
copy Vanilla.DLL CvGameCoreDLL.dll
cd ..
cd ..
cd Assets
del CvGameCoreDLL.dll
copy vanilla.DLL CvGameCoreDLL.dll
cd ..
cd Warlords
Civ4Warlords.exe

9) Finally, open another notepad document and save it as bts.bat. Enter the following text:

cd C:\Program Files\Firaxis Games\Sid Meier's Civilization 4\Assets
del CvGameCoreDLL.dll
copy BTS.dll CvGameCoreDLL.dll
cd ..
cd Warlords
cd Assets
del CvGameCoreDLL.dll
copy BTS.dll CvGameCoreDLL.dll
cd ..
cd ..
cd Beyond the Sword
Civ4BeyondSword.exe

When you want to run the game, just run the appropriate batch file and it'll juggle the asset changes for you. Yeah it's not elegant, but if you don't want to do a dual install (I'm constrained by HD space right now so I had to do this), this solution should work.

I will just keep it in this thread for organization:

UN Poll on Patching to Civ4 v1.74
The options are:
Stay with 1.61
Upgrade to 1.74, have a type of mod to deal with Cossacks
Upgrade to 1.74, use the standard rules
Other

Please discuss this in your team forums and have a representative from each team post the result. Try to get it done within 3 or so days, but time can be given if necessary. :hammer:

I vote patch this game also.

I'm ok with allowing some kind of mod to help the Cossacks, if there's a way to do that? Not sure who GA thinks is going to do that?

Methos
Nov 06, 2007, 10:59 AM
I would think it would be more trouble than its worth adding a mod mid game.

Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I've got to wonder exactly why Conroe is waiting. I'm guessing his current moves will be dictated on whether we patch. He's a great player, so I don't see why not.

General_W
Nov 08, 2007, 01:05 PM
I think you're almost certainly right Methos. I mean, it will be a big help to Piffle if Aloha's Cossacks get nerfed.

On one hand, it's taking advantage of an unfortunate situation.
On the other hand, it's the only logical thing to do if the game is about to be patched anyway.

peter grimes
Nov 08, 2007, 03:16 PM
True, but didn't we note that there were no mounted units or cannons in his ship stack?

But as you've both mentioned, waiting is the only sensible thing to do.

Booo....this is brutal We can play at the current version. Chamnix is playing for Loco who is soon to be out. aloha is vigilant on this version... so they bette be able to play, and Innovia has good turn around time. I hate to Say it but right now Conroe is holding this game up...

Agreed and it doesn't look like the patch discussion is going to resolve itself any time soon. Whenever it looks like its done, something else is brought up that starts it all over again. IMO Conroe and the rest of us need to just play on while we discuss the patch.

If only one of our Moderators (Ginger or Regent Man) would force the game to move... :(, as in if the teamdoesn't play, they open it and just hit "enter"

OF COURSE there would be a snag, right? All this complaining about not having turnplayers due to the complexity of a dual install, and now Innovia still can't play the save in 24 hours without even the courtesy of asking for an extension...

Bah, I'm sure all the teams will need some extra time since the game has been stalled for so long. I should really learn to calm down :p

I'm just really glad that so many people put their heads together to figure out how to keep the game moving.

On a similar note, I just pactched up to 1.74. I host 3 pbems, and had to shepherd all the players involved through the process. There were a few hiccups (after all, I know nothing about macs, pcs, or any of this), but all the games are moving again. It really wasn't that bad! :dunno:

I've just tried to open the 1505 save from innovia. But I'm getting the locked assets message, even though I'm opening it in 1.74. Anyone else having this issue?

Which dll are you using? Pre or post bts?

DaveMcW
Dec 03, 2007, 01:44 PM
If you don't have BTS, you need a new DLL.

Thanks, Dave. That worked almost perfectly.

I say almost, because now I have some other problems (problem loading shader libraries). I'll troll around in the tech area and see if that doesn't help.

I'm really getting tired of this: this is the second time in a row that Aloha has held up the save by more than 24 hours without asking for an extension. Why is it so tough to follow the rules we all agreed to when we signed up for this game??

Seriously - If a team doesn't ask for an extension, and don't play the save within 48 hours of it being emailed, the game admins should open the save, hit enter, and send it on. At this point, with all everyone has done to keep this game alive and moving, Aloha's behavior is simply rude. :old:

DaveMcW
Dec 12, 2007, 02:56 PM
I'm guessing that Aloha is taking a beating from Piffle.

Loco gave up already, none of their original players care anymore.

This is where it it's critical for admins do their job, moving the game along for the surviving teams while the losers are killed off.

yes it is...I have PM'ed them in the past I don't think they like me...

Anyone else care to PM an admin?

General_W
Dec 12, 2007, 04:13 PM
I'll do it.

Here's the note I sent to GA and RegentMan:

Hey Ginger Ale and RegentMan,

The Civ4 MTDG has stalled again

After all the work everyone has put into getting this game patched and moving, I'm sure you'll understand why it's a little frustrating to see the 24 hour rule still being ignored without so much as posting to request an extension.

We really don't want to complain, but we'd like to ask that you guys consider enforcing the 24 hour rule.
Especially in egregious situations where 48+ hours have passed without an extension request, it only seems fair to everyone else playing that the save be advanced by an admin. (ie: open save -> end turn -> send to the next team)

We all agreed to the 24 hour rule in the beginning to keep this game moving and interesting… and then elected you to enforce those rules. Please consider this humble plea to the great moderators of justice :D

On behalf of my team,
General_W

oh, you have no idea!!

But I didn't want to post anything in the turntracker for fear of being 'That Guy' who is always complaining about other people.... :(

Perhaps someone with a more silver (or slippery) tongue than I can post something in the turn tracker quoting Ginger Ale's post about the courtesy of requesting an extension.

It's just really rude. At this point every active player knows that their team is being expected to play according to the guidelines. The fact that we're all patched up to high heaven and delays are still happening is, to me, unfathomable.

[/end rant]

[That guy] It's been 60 hours since the save was sent, and there has been no request for extension. If I were an admin I open the save and send it on, not moving units, and setting any new builds to settlers. This is just ridiculous.[/That Guy]

I hope Piffle plays soon! :gripe:
