CIV3Q ONLY [c3c]

I don't care if they only were a country for a little over 1 month. I thought it would be cool to do a civ after my home state.

Capital: Sacremento
Special Unit: Californio (2.4.2 +enslavement ability)
New unit animations: No (Musketman)

How about adding Sutter as a leader? Also, why does the Californio only have a defense of 2? Just curious.

Yea, sutter is a good idea, I messed up, it is 3.4.2 not 3.2.4. :)

I gotta echo that one. Maybe you can replace him with Mario Savio (leader of the Free Speech Movement).

@Hygro/macman- He reformed California's welfare system, and decreased government involvement in the Californian economy, leading to growth. If you want to change it, be my guest.

@Mart- Nope, it uses the Lincoln leaderhead. Maybe if I get interested in this project again, it will, but not now...

I was born in California, and I still live in California, in fact.. I live in the San Fransisco Bay Area.

It'd be much more accurate to place Eureka as capital of California. You might want to add Vallejo to the leader list as well. Sonoma was a small farming community and had no seat in any pre-California Unionization government. It was important though.

Vallejo helped California out, true ... but wasn't he Mexican?

Reagan did a lot of stuff, but all of it was badfirst of all, he bankrupted our schools so that now they suck, and he did a lot of things that have no good purpose that only ULTRA-conservative idiots want. its an insult to our state to call him a "great" leader. we did elect him as govorner, though.

A couple of suggestions to make it more realistic.
1. Mod workers so they can't cut down forest.
2. Add a new resource called spotted owls. They appear with ecology and if any are in your 21 tile city radius the city is autorazed. :p

Californio should be a replacement for Rifleman, and Infantry should have 2 movement (troops are in better physical shape now-a-days, they use Jeeps, ect.) otherwise it would get slower as it upgrades.

The California Republic was only in Northern California (Bay Area and above). Bakersfield was under Mexican control at the time the California Republic exhisted.

If you really think about it, The California Republic still exhists today. On the Californian flag it says the Republic of California. In fact, it is joined to the United States. So in reality, most or maybe even every state is it's own country but it is just in a union like the Soviet Union.

The Soviet Union consisted of Russia and all those countries, while the United States consist of Washington D.C and 50 states. Heh..

we are one country, but each state does have it's own military, plus a national military. then again, if California wasn't so rich, we might be at Civil War with the USA(i'd take up arms aganst the rebels, even though i hate George Bush), since the rest of the country is so d*** conservative and we actually care about the enviroment (whats that? says George Bush. The fact is that out of all the states in out Federal Republic, California is the closest to being its own independant nation. California has the fifth largest economy in the world and the sixth largest army in the world (counting the California National Gaurd). We are also the only state to have our own representative to foreign nations, independant of the State Department, and a miniture department of homeland security independant of the Feds. With control of over 50% of the US imports through our major ports and a much better world image than the rest of the US, California is very capable of becoming its own independant nation. If you are interested head over to my line of California Secessionist clothing at http://www.cafeshops.com/calisecede :)

Junkyard_Pope

Hey, California hasn't had the 5th largest economy in the world since the 70's. China, Japan, the U.K., Canada, Italy, Germany, and France all have larger economies. And Russia too if you include all the money that the Russian mafia doesn't report for the GDP.

Perhaps the leader should be Zorro! That show took place in California in the 1830's. Ha ha! Or maybe John C. Fremont, who overthrew the Mexican government of California.

I like the mod because if it makes Texas mad because they know they're wrong(again) it must be good.

Being a SoCal kid, I plan to play this one. Meaning, I don't know anything about this mod, yet. But if you are using a map of the US and if Cali goes to war with, say Arizona/Nevada/ Colorodo/Oregon, where would we get our fresh water? And what would happen to my beloved LA?;)

BTW, have you ever seen those old, b&w photos of Arizona's mobilized national guards patrolling their border with Cali to protest construction of Parker Dam and Cali's diverting of water from Colorodo River (1935)? There's even one with the guardsmen standing around one of those old Civil War era snub-nosed mortar cannons. HAHAHA. I wonder who would have spanked who if Cali ever went to war with Zona? Just kidding.;)

(I'm sorry, I checked the internet but couldn't find any of these photos to amuse you.)

first of all, i´m from europe. i just found this thread, and i would like to ask if anyone of you knows the novel "ecotopia", the author is ernest callenbach. he describes (like the famous novel "utopia"...) an ecological state, which is composed of california, oregon and washington. perhaps an inspiration for you californian modmakers :-)

another question: what about the western states in the civil war?
i know that california became member of the us in 1850. was it of less importance because of almost no population, were they neutral? i´m asking that, ´cause i´m working on a "the world in 1863" scenario, and the western north america is empty until now.

IRC, California had one regiment with the Union... do a google on California Military or California State Reserve and there is also a web for California Military Museum...

I'd post them but right now its Friday night and we're gonna let it all hang out.

PS perhaps the hunter/pioneer unit from Steph's cossacks conversion or the minuteman unit could serve as the Californo.

PSS Patton should be a California Great Leader. Yeah he was US in WW2, but he is a Californian... born in San Gabriel, CA 11 Nov 1885 (veterans day no less)

What do you all think about making the Californio into a cavalry unit? The Californios were all ranchers anyways, and it seems kinda weird for California's unique unit to be so early historiclly in the tech tree. Here are some pics:

I agree fully. I might take a look at this new civilization tommorro. I am actually making a scenario which involves California exiting from the United States somewhere in the 2010s with Tom Delay as the President of the United States. BOT, this sounds great; California rocks!
