Hi,

I'm not sure whether this is a bug or a protection feature, however I installed BtS on my laptop, and could play perfectly fine, but it will not run on a different account on my laptop, or on another computer, it always asks for the correct CD to be inserted.

I've had a quick look at the CivIV website, and it looks (similar to) this error: http://www.2kgames.com/civ4/support_cannotlocate.htm

Except that BtS only shipped with the one CD/DVD.

Is this a protection feature new to BtS (it never happened with Warlords) and if so, what happens say if I bought a new computer, would I have to buy another version of BtS, or does anyone know a way around this?

Many thanks if you can help clear this up for me.

do you have the same driveletter assigned to your drive under the 2nd account?

As far as I know the US version was the only one that shipped (though not released yet! :p ) with 2 CDs instead of a DVD. So clearly the disc number is not the problem, but I can't help you sorry.

Yes they are both drive E.

The origional laptop has XP, the 2nd has Vista

wellllll...im running Vista32bit, XP32bit, Vista64bit, on 2different PC's several accounts...no problem with the original DVD as well as with the imageloaded alcohol strip(use this to avoid my DVD making noises)..so, whatever protection firaxis is using, that can't cause this kind of error..

silly questions:
1) sure you load the BEYOND THE SWORD executable? and not the CIV4 executable?
2) sure you have the BEYONG The SWORD DVD if you click the BEYOND THE SWORD executable?
3) sure that you have ADMIN rights? might have some conflicts over hardware
because of system rights...
4) sure you're not launching some bad cracked version LOL? hahaha

no serious...it's all working fine here, both official dvd as well as the alcohol strip i made...i did notice on my vista machine that it doesnt make a shortcut on the desktop to the beyond the sword executable, so i made that manually.....but besides from that, DVD is initialzed properly..must be something silly you're experiencing there..

When you installed it for the first time you get the option to make it available to your account only or to all account users on your computer. You did that ?

@taketounwanted:

1) yes, i run from auto-run most often but have tried from shortcut too.
2) yes - same PC i can run on first account, switch user and then can't run.
3) admin rights on first, not second account, but DO have them on the vista computer, and it seems to be too much of a coincidence for the same error but different reason?
4) yep, no crack (although do have the 3.02 patch)

@Pitboss

i didn't see any such option, and it created a shortcut for the second account....that wouldn't affect the second computer though either should it?

Thanks for your suggestions, it's annoying to find no-one else has had this problem though and can run it on multiple computers, but glad for your feedback.

Edit: A second disc didn't work either (needed a second copy for my brother to play anyway), contacted Take Two helpline and Dell helpline who are sending another DVD drive out in case there's a problem there. Still don't know what the problem was though, but I'll update if I find one in case it helps anyone else.

Edit Two: The new DVD drive fixed the problem - it's only 2 months old so not great that it needed to be replaced, but Dell did it for free. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

It might actually. I had a similar kind of problem, (perhaps related) but managed to fix it by uninstalling Civ4, Civ4W and reinstalling it (in another location). And adding Civ4BTS afterwords. If you would try the reinstall thing, make sure that the box that I talked about is checked (might also be a dot).

I'm having the same problem. Can't get the installation to recognize the first disk after it finishes loading the second.

And everything is working well, only a single DVD drive (using a laptop), except for this expansion.

Anyone else having this problem?

probably wont help but instead of using the shortcut go straight to the directory and try loading via the actual .exe
