I want to play with an actual map of the Earth and start the American empire on the USA. How can I do this?

huh? there are quite a few earth maps around if thats what your looking for. Some are AIOW (all in old world), some have American empire. Just go to the downloads section and go to earth maps. Alternatively if you are looking for a map of only the USA, civ4 came with a decent one, or you could always convert a bmp to a map. BTW welcome to forums :)
