View Full Version : Best Map to Use?
BeardedWonder Jul 23, 2007, 09:19 AM Hello all,
Can anyone recommend a map, either included with BTS or a compatible mod, which can produce the following map criteria.
Something which has 2/3 major continents but also plently of islands (maybe an island chain like polynesia). Ideally I'd like poles at north and south, tropics in the middle and realistic looking mountain ranges.
Would i be best using a map script mod?
Cheers
Willowmound Jul 23, 2007, 09:22 AM Easy. It's called 'big and small'. Comes with BtS.
BeardedWonder Jul 23, 2007, 09:27 AM Marvellous, many thanks!
molst Aug 07, 2007, 10:00 AM I tested all standard map scripts for a few hours yesterday. The ones that would work good for you is Hemisphere and a script named something like "Highland Continents" or similar. Hemisphere produces really varying maps if used with 2-3 Snaky Continents. More continents makes the maps look un-natural and a bit boring. Ice Age produces strategical challenging (really random) maps without control over the number of continents (Snaky continents is most interesting I think).
BeardedWonder Aug 07, 2007, 10:23 AM Thanks for the suggestions Molst, not tried hemispheres yet might give it a whirl in my next game.

How did I miss that one? guess I'll have to wait till this campaign is over. :crazyeye:
Rockstone Aug 07, 2007, 01:56 PM Yeah, big and small is a great addition.
Also, I often use archipelago with sneaky continents and low sealevel.
lilnev Aug 07, 2007, 03:17 PM I've been using the Tectonics (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=149278) map script. It does a great job of generating the mountain ranges by modeling tectonic plates and their subduction zones. Then adds moisture accounting for prevailing winds, rain shadow effects of mountains, and so forth. Check it out. The "Earthlike, 70% water" option generally gives a mixture of continents and islands.
peace,
lilnev
Marshall Thomas Aug 07, 2007, 04:43 PM I'm trying to decided whether to use "big and small" or "hemispheres" (with 2 or 3) continents. I'd like to play on a large map with 18 civs. Would anyone please offer some opinions? thanks in advance
mice Aug 07, 2007, 05:02 PM Beardedwonder, you can go load up any map and then look at it in world builder, ctrl W.
Have a look at them and see what kind of game it would encourage.
'Big and small' does sound like exactly what you want.
molst Aug 09, 2007, 03:03 AM have a look at this thread
