View Full Version : Who's been having more fun with Rhye's then the actual game itself?
Seriphyn Jul 23, 2007, 02:56 PM I have. It's ridiculously fun. I've been enjoying it more then the main game itself! Currently playing as Japan, achieved my first two goals, got the Korean peninsula under my grasp, now colonising California.
Congresses, stability, civil wars and civilizations collapsing! Heck, China collapsed recently, and I've got my eyes on the independent cities left over.
I'm ambivalent in thinking if it's actually better then civ itself....meh, without civ, no Rhye's...haha. BLASPHEMER!
Landstander Jul 23, 2007, 03:07 PM I agree - can't wait for the "official " Rhye's!!
I just hope that a) it runs faster and b) it runs faster.
goonie61 Jul 23, 2007, 03:10 PM I have never played Rhyes but I have heard about it
It sounds cool, what is the biggest difference about it???

It's very historical, played on an Earth map with historical events such as civilization collapses, etc. Also, civs start at their historical times, not 4000 BC.

Do the events happen regardless of what is going on in the game-Does communist russia collapse even if i am playing as them and i have the highest score?
Solver Jul 23, 2007, 03:28 PM Events are scripted, although you are sometimes given a choice. For example, you may be given the choice of whether to let some of your cities secede.
But events are historical. The whole point of Rhye's is historical gameplay. Arabs will always found Islam for example.
Seriphyn Jul 23, 2007, 03:48 PM That might sound boring, but it isn't. You're taking your nation through all the historical events, but it's like, you're changing it. It's quite interesting. Britain occupies Britain, and France occupies France, although in this game they own Italy.
Also, each nation has their own specific goals, bit like Medieval II total war. Germany's one is interesting...take over western Europe (and England) plus Greece and Russia. Haha.
When a new nation is born, you have the option of switching to it permanently. Then you can battle/trade/whatever with the nation you created.
The West Coast belongs to Japan! I'll kill ya, ya damn Natives (did I mention natives and independent states?)
Solver Jul 23, 2007, 03:51 PM So basically, Rhye's is about really rewriting history, sort of what Civ itself is supposed to be about :)
Breunor Jul 23, 2007, 03:54 PM Its an unbelievably rich and well thought out mod. I give Rhye the highest kudos. And I give one to Firaxis for the wisdom of adopting it officially.

Seriphyn Jul 23, 2007, 03:58 PM Sooo fuuunn.
Going Cali tommorow...no Civ 4 for two weeks. No Rhye's...great. Ah well. I'll imagine playing it in my mind's eye.
Joe Harker Jul 24, 2007, 03:53 AM It's actually my default mod, i have to unload if i want to play the orginal game

Congrats. Just don't limit yourself only to the UHV's. Try a different approaches sometimes.

No. If you are playing as Russia and have a good stability, you won't collapse.
Spearthrower Jul 24, 2007, 04:29 AM It is remarkably well done... I haven't played the BTS version yet, but the mod before was so well researched, implemented and developed, it really will remain as one of the most special mods ever created. Rhye and all the others who had a hand in its evolution deserve to be very proud of what they've accomplished!
Hitti-Litti Jul 24, 2007, 04:36 AM I haven't had more fun with Rhye's than the actual game. Though that's only because I want to first check those new features before I start playing Rhye's intensively. Tried as Khmer, but the game crashed. But still, even if it may have bugs(that crash was caused by a bug in BtS), Rhye's beats normal game in vanilla, Warlords and in BtS.
Lapoleon Jul 24, 2007, 07:07 AM I had a great game as well as Japan, I vassalised Khmer, France, America, Carthage, The Aztecs (who had the Inca as a vassal) and Turkey. And that without declaring war on anyone, they all wanted my protection. I also founded the Islam before Arabia spawned.
After that I made defensive pacts with everybody on the planet, and asked the Ethiopians to declare war on the Inca. This led them to declare war on me so suddenly the whole world was at war with Ethiopia. They didn't last long.

Impressive. How did you manage that?
In the original Warlords flavoured Rhye's Japan was so hamstrung technologically that it was absolutely pointless to play them.
As we are all no doubt aware each civilizations ability to progress technologically as well as lots of other areas is seriously adjusted based on civilizations and the japanese are technologically crippled.
Edit: Also I forgot to ask is it pretty much a foregone conclusion that playing as Germany, France and England will declare war on me at some point? I ask because England did this to me in the warlords version despite good relations. I'm not much of a player in terms of I don't play the game to achieve set goals, rather I make up my own and just see how it goes.
In BTS i'm trying to make a pan-european Christian bloc thing vs the rest of the world. So consequently trying to make best mates with England and France but if its pretty much coded into the mod that at some stage they will end up hating my I may as well not bother.
Anybody shed some light?
Joe Harker Jul 24, 2007, 08:54 AM As the English (so looking from the other side), i had several small wars with France (took some of their oversea cities in America/Canada) and Germany (over the remains of the Vikings) in my last game, and often do have srcaps with any of the other european powers at least once a game (France, Germany, Spain, Portugal, Vikings and so on)
LordGek Jul 24, 2007, 09:11 AM So basically, Rhye's is about really rewriting history, sort of what Civ itself is supposed to be about :)
As I've said before I think its an incredibly brilliant/cleverly made mod BUT, at the same time, it represents everything I hate about scenarios.
I can't get past seeing it as Civ 4 on a fixed map with tweaked AI, that while it may act cleverly, is following more of a script than the standard game AI so as to be more historically accurate.
When I play Civ its always with random civs on a random map and random personalities (heck, I'll gladly even throw in that new unrestricted leader thing to really mix it up). I want to create all new dynamics and explore a completely unknown world, not feel like I'm playing through a series of scripted events on the same map.
But, again, I give Rhye credit that this is the ANSWER to all of those people who want to play on a real world map with civs that will behave much more historically accurate than they ever did in the standard game.
