Have you tried what r rolo1 suggested? I would give it a shot. Anytime i get into a stale-mate, or even temporarily slip a little, I try to remember one thing. Pillage. Take away the enemies ability to produce more units than me. You have to win the air war to win in modern times.

I think option B is better. Play out maybe 3 or 4 turns of preparation and let us help. I think it is better to show HOW to WIN in the modern age of Earth 18 Civs.

Do what you want. It's a game, it should be fun. Although seeing modern age defeat would be interesting (or a modern age salvage of a game).

Can you make peace with Cyrus? If so, then go for 10 rounds of peace, get police state online, build mount rushmore and take over Africa. This should put you in the lead. With Europe and Africa under control there should be no way Cyrus could beat you productionwise. Rolo already said that Genghis is piling on you, so can you bribe him or any other civ to attack Cyrus a bit?

Better get the mixed armies up now with infantry, panzers, sams and bombers. The bombers are key in modern warfare. I usually have 2 stacks of 10 of them. 1 stack removes the culture defense, the other reduces almost all defending units to 50%. There is not much that can withstand that. Too bad you lost a big part of the luftwaffe already.

Alternate course is making peace with Cyrus and taking over Lizzy so you get the UN. She has some nice land and high pop cities to get you up in score.

You can still salvage this .. build (rush if possible) a few (4-5) nukes and let them fly. Hit his capital and preferably other 2 or 3 high production cities .. good idea because #1) I've seen AI's immediately beg for peace or even capitulate once being exposed to a nuclear attack #2) In case the war continues, Cyrus' industrial capacity will be lowered significantly #3) your back is against the wall so you might as well give a shot

Nukes are forbidden by the UN and I doubt that the Warlords AI would allow to build them again. Neal is stuck with conventional weapons....

BTW, the update will take much longer? :please:

You have two SAM infantry in Africa, one in going south, the other just ... chilling out. If you move them up to Suez, it should hold (at least in my try) for one turn. Pasagardae should've been burned and there's no way you can hold it. The good news is China goes before Persia and will take it, possibly raze it (in my try he did). I think you should try to make peace, if not this turn than next, trade Fission to Roosevelt for Facism and that other Tech he has, maybe some gold too, relax for a couple of turns and try the war again. If you wait one more turn, chances are Russia loses a city to China, I think ... so maybe peace now, with the wrecked city of Pasagardae and the Suez, might be the best option you have.

Neal, you haven't posted here since Sept. 13th. Please say so if you are abandoning this game. I was looking forward to the outcome, but noticed it's been a very long time since anything new about the game has been posted. Thanks.

I agree. Any info (even if it is just that the game is dead) would be appreciated.

On another note, Neal hasn't posted anywhere since Sept. 13th, so if we don't here from him soon I would suspect that something out of the ordinary has happened.

Arf, Neal, don't keep the supsense up. I want to know how this game will turn out. This is a huge modern warfare and nukes are definitely becoming more and more of an interesting choice. I want to see some KABOOOOMMMSSS!!!!

I like that idea, but I wouldn't be the one to do it. He plays on Monarch, right? Thats 2/3 levels higher than I'm capable of...

I would continue this game, but I have 2 cons:
-Not sure that my :badcomp: would handle modern wars in this big map :(
-Not sure if Neal isn't taking a well deserved vacation of the forums ( or working hard )... I do not like to steal ideas ( Even for doing the BtS Lonely Hearts games I asked willpax ( the starter of the LHC ))

Actually you could use it as a "abandonware" license. I do think you should not take this game to an end. Maybe one day Neal will come and end this. Buuuuut, if you really want, I think it's okay for you to run a game with another civ (or even Frederick himself) as long as Neal is still MIA and you add a credit for his idea in the OP. :mischief:
See, I ran out of threads to read at work...

I'd like to see an open challenge thread ala the LHC threads for a BTS earth game. I love earth maps.

^^Now that is a interesting idea... and everyone has the Earth map :p .Will think about it.....

If there is enough interest, I'll open it in Friday or Saturday

@r_rolo1: announce it here if you start such a thread. I'd be interested in lurking, or perhaps even to play myself.

Shoot the Moon, are you perhpas suggesting foul play?

@r_rolo1

I've been playing this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=6308) map by Ok Computer, it's the earth map that comes with the game but edited with BtS civs. (In other words the same earth map in this thread but w/ different civs). I've been playing it b/c IIRC the earth map that comes with the game only uses vanilla or warlords civs, is this still true?

If so it'd be interesting to play any sort of challenge game with the BtS civs, but understandably that might make it less inclusive to those who either don't have BtS or don't wish to download the file.

As asked by yena, I announce here that I started a open game in a similar format than this game, the King of the World, Chapter I, Hatty (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=246345) . Everyone is invited to give it a shot... ;)

A domination win in Earth 18 civ map.... :goodjob: I only got conquest and space so far :(

MrFelony
Oct 07, 2007, 04:52 PM
I have to say, emperor felt much more like a monarch/prince game. starting off as frederick and going straigt for BW seems very cheap since you can conquer all of europe extremely fast since they'll have mainly warriors defending and at best archers. Not only that but the cities you'll get in europe are among the best in the map. I used liberalism to get Assembly Line, and that's cause I was tired of putting off liberalism . Also, I never realized how awesome the germans UB was until this game. +25% production and +50% production with coal? i never had less than twice the score of an opponent after turn 50 i think. I believe the end score was me ~5100 and montezuma 900 :crazyeye:.

though I'm still up for playing one, though i might try immortal. To the end, the worst my cavs had to fight (and in the last 20 turns or so panzers) were musketmen. It was pretty fun watching the replay. but imo, i think conquest takes longer than domination.

Is it just me, or does it seem like there is a bug on earth map that lowers the difficulty? I mean, shouldn't the AI start with free archers (and the archery tech) on Earth?

MrFelony
Oct 08, 2007, 01:19 AM
I agree. I mean it's like they don't know how to play or something. I would often find Mansa with not even 2 cities when I finally took the time to go explore his territory and this is mid game. This is the only time i've considered prematurely moving up to immortal. However, in the few games I've played, it seems that the comp either does very well or very poorly. my last game very poorly :(

EDIT: and i believe you are right about the free archers on emperor.
