Has anyone else noticed that not only do you get 2:hammers: from an AP same religion building, you also get a massive culture boost?

Ap state religion temple gives :- +2:hammers: +6:culture:
monk shop:- +2:hammers: +7:culture:

Forget Theaters for quick culture boost in newly conquered or founded cities, built a temple especially if you're spiritual trait.....

Sorry there's no monk shop example in screenshot, being built (monastery)

Actually, I think you are seeing the new Sistine Chapel effect.

Ah, right  that would also make sense, I assumed it was still just culture from specialists...is it now culture from religious buildings too?

(This is playing quicklyish to try and answer questions about corps and state property, no excuse though)...

For non-spiritual civs, isn't the monastery a better first build than a temple? They're cheaper, provide more culture and give a research bonus.

Sometimes you need the happiness from the temple for your city to grow. It all depends on the situation.

Did your monasteries actually work OK with the AP?
When I got mine the left display read +2 hammers for the temple
but not for the monastery.
Though when I moused over, the monastery info read +2 hammers.
But when I actually counted my hammers manually,
it didn't add up.

PS:
What is the new Sistine Chapel effect?
And what was the pre-BTS one?
Sorry, I'm at work and have no access to the game.

I did notice that several wonders have been tweaked.
I think Notre Dame now gives +2 happiness!
Much nicer.

Sistine effect is 5 cpt for every building of your state religion added to the 2cpt for each specialist. Didn't used to have the bonus culture for the buildings.

Apostolic adds the hammers. 2pt I think.

Added up it's a good idea to stay in a religion now, especially for a culture victory. With all three buildings that's 15 cpt.

yeah the hammers do not come from Sistine Chapel for sure. But there is no mention of Apostolic Palace awarding them anywhere in the Civilopedia, although it's pretty clear it's the Apostolic Palace which provides them.

Any and all bonuses from wonders for monastaries are negated when Scientific Method is discovered.

So before scientific method your monastaries can give you:
+7 culture (14 if over 1000yr old) (+5 from sistine Chapel)
+2 Hammers (AP)
+2 $ (Spiral Minaret)
+2 Beakers (University of Sankore):goodjob:

After scientific method all they give it +2/+4 culture

I used to be annoyed at Scientific Method too. Now I look at building those couple of wonders as giving me an ongoing "golden age" until science catches up.
Depending on how your cities are located, the Religious "Golden Age" can be even better than an actual Golden Age. A lot of Coastal cities means you don't have very many tiles producing hammers, and wouldn't even get a bonus for that in a Golden Age.

magicalsushi,

I play a Specialist Economy. As such you can almost always find me running Mercantilism and I almost always build the Statue of Liberty. (I often try to pop Democracy from Liberalsm.) Because of this, I want buildings that can utilize my two free specialists as fast as possible. Teamed up with the Angkor Wat, each temple can support one 2hammer producing specialist. This can be a huge help to getting a newer city off its feet. Temples usually come first, Spiritual or not.
