I'm wondering if any of the stores have released BtS in the US because it's the 23rd? As far as I know were not going to get BtS until tommorow.

Noone has gotten it yet because the 23rd is the SHIPPING date of the game.

I'm thinking this expansion will be worth every sweet penny it is being sold for if they did any of the concepts (IE corporations, espionage) competently let alone if they did it well.

My local EB Games called, my pre-order of BtS will be in the store by noon tomorrow. Remember that the 7/23 date is when the game will ship from distributors, no one will likely have it in before the 24th, or later, depending on whether they use overnight or two day air, or even five day ground delivery. EBG uses overnight for "A" list games like Civ4 BtS.

I want to express solidarity with the US players who don't have it yet. I think if they can release Harry Potter on exactly the same hour all over the world then Firaxis should be able to release BTS in at least the same week.

It must be torture. The good news is that it's worth the wait.

E/B's site says it arrived today 7/23. I went to two of their stores and it didn't. Had some poor guy at Best Buy rummaging around in the back and digging through tote boxes trying to find it for me. I was able to get Warlords on its release date that way but no luck this time.

The girl at E/B did at least tell me that they will have it tommorrow. BB's site says 7/25 and Wally World's just says sold out online.

So I guess I'll sleep tonight. Get up tomorrow and renew my search.

The release date for a game is the SHIPPING date, not the date you'll have it in stores. For some games(movie-based games, AAA titles) there will be a set street date, in which case everyone should have it available that day because it was shipped in advance of that date...but for everything else, the release date is the shipping date.

I worked at a Borders during the last Harry Potter release - trust me, the reason we can stay open all night and make such an event out of it is because we sell more books in that one night than we do in a week! Sadly, BtS, and games in general, are not quite that profitable.

I'm praying that I get the game from Amazon this Wednesday (as they f'ing told me when I paid for it!!). I've cleared that night just for BtS, and if it's not here I may consider Steam (though the version of Warlords I got from Direct2Drive didn't work with store-bought Civ4, so I am hesitant).

I checked Wal-Mart tonight when I got off work and they said they won't have it until Thursday. They said even though it's a new release, since it isn't a big release, they won't push for it early.

I'm having the same problem. I've actually tried to download it 3 times and it craps out at 1.63 or even 1.64G. I've e-mailed D2D for some help but probably won't get an answer until late today.

My UPS tracking shows the package in my home city enroute - knowing UPS I expect it mid to late afternoon.

I just called a friend at my local Target. He works overnight in the stockroom. They got a box in last night along with all the other freight. He told me to drop by the store anytime after noon to pick up my copy! Woot!

Wal-Mart seems to have removed the game from their website. Yesterday it said coming soon, but now it's just gone.

You guys understand the concept of "business hours" right? :) It's not like D2D or Steam keep a full staff waiting up just so they can release a game right exactly midnight. I'm waiting for Steam myself. It doesn't help matters that they're all out on the West Coast in PST land. I'm sure all it really takes is a simple command to "flip the switch" (especially in the case of preloaded Steam downloads) but still I'm sure they like to do things during normal business hours.

For all of those with the pre-order problem with d2d, click 'send info' and try ALL the links in the e-mail. I keep trying the d2d account link and got nothing then I tried the hitpoints link (they are the same group as d2d) after I went there I went to the account games page and clicked on the download link with a broken picture and it worked (although im still stuck at 1.64/1.64 as I (and others) mentioned above, even after almost 12 hours....)

I was at Best Buy this morning to pick up Guitar Hero 80s :band: :rockon: and I checked but didn't see any copies of BTS out (they had all the DVD/CD new releases out)

I got the verifying files (it's actually unencrypting them) thing last night. Yeah 4 PST sounds right, judging from these past release times: feed://www.steampowered.com/v/new.xml

The only other thing besides this and Pirates (which had already been out for a while) that I've bought off of Steam was MTW2, and I'm trying to remember, but I think I got that on the release day at 1 CST.

I've been fairly happy with digital distribution so far (also got SOTS from GamersGate). It's definitely the wave of the future. You don't have to worry about losing a DVD (or having to leave the damn thing in to play), you can back it up yourself if you need to, and you can always just download it again. I do miss the good old days of thick well printed useful manuals (in Civ 4's case it's all directly accessible and instantly up-to-date with the in-game Civilopedia now anyway) and other goodies, but those days are long gone so I don't feel like I'm missing anything by not buying the box. Although I still have my Civ 3 collectors tin sitting on shelf.

Why does it keep getting delayed? I don't want to download it and no stores have it. This is an insult to civ fans in the US.

Either UPS or Gamestop lost my shipment, so Gamestop is overnighting a replacement copy. Should be getting a new tracking number in a few hours.

On their website they list zero copies available at any of them around here (northern Mass/southern NH), but I called one at the Rockingham Mall in Salem NH and they have them in stock, I picked up a copy an hour ago.

Installed, patched and ready to launch. Got mine at EB in Enfield, CT. They had one copy left. Good luck.

I went in and asked for it... the lady looked in her computer and said she wasn't getting it until Wednesday, and that she was only getting one copy of it.

Then she looks again, looks down at the ground and there are a bunch of UPS boxes, unopened that she received this morning. She cracks one of the boxes open, and I got the only copy of Beyond the Sword in town. :)

Each Gamestop in the Chicago suburbs seems to have received one copy of it. I managed to get one from the third one I tried. So good luck finding a copy today if you don't already have it.

Traditionally this is what happens, within a week or two either amazon or one of the other retailers like Best Buy is going to offer the game on sale for $10 off. It happens nearly all the time, so I am waiting.

I really doubt that will happen... it never happened for Warlords, that one is still $29 and it's been out over a year.

Damn, I went to Walmart and Best Buy and they said they wouldn't have it until tomorrow. So then I went to Gamestop and the only ones they had were already reserved. You definitely need to get patches for the D2D games from them. But the installer that I just downloaded, but haven't run yet, said v3.02 in the name.

For D2D, they supposedly reconfigure each game with the newest patch as they come out, so if the patching fails, you can always uninstall and redownload once they patch. Many of the games they sell are past their prime, so patches usually aren't a problem.

Was annoyed that D2D didn't have the download up this morning, but its working now. The Download Manager is the best selling point of the D2D/Fileplanet deal, as I get the maximum kb/s of the connection, plus I can interrupt and re-continue a download at will.

Actually, Hitpoints worked just fine. In fact, to tempt fate, I downloaded it at work, on the notoriously rickety wireless connection on my laptop (connection was lost at least three times,) then, when I got home, I transferred the zip file from my work laptop to my home computer via a LaCie 80GB pocket HDD. Everything worked fine, to my great surprise. So, I've been playing it ever since dinner... And my version was, indeed, 3.02, so I suppose that means that we don't have to worry about patching.

Yawn. Oh well, I guess I should go to sleep now.

D2D gives you an already patched version. In the product info section it shows that you download version 3.02 :)

True, that could be their way of trying to get you to reserve stuff... They did ask me if I wanted to reserve anything else (Starcraft 2, etc.)
