Someone made a new civ somewhere... and its a second Germany (see the scoreboard), which is painfull as hell... I think it should be impossible to generate a civ that is allready on the map.

Hmm.. interesting. Could be that 'unrestricted leaders' is turned on.

Yes, I had that too on default settings. Bismarck made a colony, Fred suddenly appeared on my screen, and he gave me the creeps! I don't like it, so I agree with you.

Default game via "play now" ... Prince/Normal/Archipelo IIRC

You can play against 17 Gandhi in Vanilla already, what does bother you know?

if the colonies all have the same name as the one who colonised them
then its increasingly difficult as in the diplomacy screen you dont get colours so if your asked if you would like to trade embargo isabella you wont know which one to whom they are referring.

They all have different leader, so you could see the difference there right?

I've seen this with De Gaulle spawning Louis XIV and Bismark spawning Frederick. I'm pretty sure it's intentional and I don't think it's a bad idea. The one thing I wish they'd change though is the reference to the "German civilization" because it gets confusing. How do I know WHICH German spy I caught in my lands? Etc...

This is exactly my point, I dont mind Fredrick and Bismark beeing there... Having 2 germany's is a pain...

Having several Germaines or whatever was already a pain, but adding a leader name in a message would suffice here, IMO.

An additional civ is really better than a duplicate

Perhaps if they called the New Civs 'New America', 'Third Germany','Fourth Russia' it might be OK, but generally I'd really prefer a new civ (after all they have 34, plenty to chose from)

because that overemphasizes Leaders over Civs (same as the "Montezuma declared war on you" v. "the Aztecs declared war on you")
[generally the Leader should only be seen in the diplomacy screens in my opinion]

Agreed completely.

You can have Bismark and Frederick in the same game without colonies, can you not?

Lone Wolf

Yes, but only if you select them with the "custom game" option.

Well from a general standpoint, it does make more sence to spawn a second leader from the same country/civ. After all, how many times did Germany "free"/"create"/"spawn" (whatever), France IRL??

So I guess from my pov it does make sence, however "Germany did this" or "Cancel trade with Germany" should then be changed if this is the intended behaviour and done as per Krikkitone's suggestion.

And how many times did Germany "free"/ "create"/ "spawn" another Germany?

Need I remind Germans how many Germanic states did they have in e.g. 18th century?

None. There was no "Germany" :p only a Holy Roman Empire of German Nation - but thats already in the game ;)
On the other hand we did have to Germanys in the 20th century

But the "Second Germany" IRL was not a colony of "First Germany".

Well, you had Austria and Bavaria and Prussia and Palatinat and Holstein and Mecklenburg and loads of other small states, and Holy Empire hardly counted as a state. Russia was the same after the split of Kievan Rus and until the union of Russian lands under Prince of Muscovy.

why cant they just have a popup like when you start a new game to be able to rename a civ and its leader. that way when a colony is spun off you can customize/differentiate it.

Hopefuly a modder can do this (probably easier to get it into a patch that way)

well... Germany didnt spawn another germany... but certainly countries "reinvent" them selves with having new leaders sometimes...

France did that, Saint-Just lead revolutionary France against the HRE then Napoleon followed though after the coup and finished the job, shattering the empire.

But more to the point, Its not always different names, I had two freds and two isabellas.
And if your speaking of states, from 1100AD till the 17th century there were not countries in europe. But having the nation or peoples name is better as No-one is alive that long, if the numbers wernt there you could pass it off as the Louis dynasty but even that pulls plausibility rather thin.

This isn't a bug, it's a feature!

I'll often go into Custom Games and create two germanies or three Russias. In the second case, I'll cut and run before they all get Cossacks.

Jul 28, 2007, 02:48 AM
but this isnt by choice, this is when a civilisation seperates its foreign colonies and you get stuck with multiple isabellas.
Its not a bug, just bad scripting.
