I discovered plastic but can't build the hydro plant or Three Gorges Dam anywhere, even in cities right on the river. What's the deal with this? Is it because I have built coal plants in every city on the island?

Could be that you need to research another tech before building them, otherwise, i don't know. (The Three Gorges Dam requires a hydro plant i think)

I think hydro plant requires only plastic, at least according to the Civepedia.

well, I never tried, but what's the point of building more than one power plant in one city (apart from getting rid of the +2 unhealthy), you already have power everywhere, so I guess that is most likely the problem. also, power plants require factories, but I guess you have them as well, since you have coal plants.

+ 2 unhealthy can be a huge issue, that's why they have hydro plant in the game. I think there is something wrong with the game, that somehow precluded hydro plant from be availabe. (doesn't even show up on the building options). Or am I missing something?

Maybe someone already constructed the Three Gorges. This happens to me all the time with wonders.

About the Hydro Plant, I don't know. Maybe the river board cities don't have factories...

I didn't mean to say health was not important. (in most of my cases its rather happiness that poses problems but health can often enough be troublesome as well). however, what I also meant to say was: if you built a coal plant already I don't think you can still build another. just for test reasons you for example try building a nuclear power plant my guess is that it won't work either. so the sad truth is that if you decide to build coal, you will be permanently stuck with the +2 unhealthy. (expect the city gets taken over and then returned). at least that's what I figure.

This is not the way it worked in previous versions of the game. If you built a coal plant, you could subsequently build a hydro or nuclear plant.

Yeah, maybe this is a new BTS thing, it used to be that you can replace coal with hydro and the coal plant will be inactive.

I'm having the same problem, but I haven't built *any* power plants. I have built factories, but I can't build hydro plants, and thus I can't build the Three Gorges Dam.

Have your city near a river or a lake?

Built it earlier today, worked just fine, are you *sure* your cities are on a river and not in a tile where the river begins? If you hover over your city with your mouse and it says "fresh water"(and theres nothing else around that could provide fresh water) then you should be able to build em.

Have your city near a river or a lake? No, that's the weird part - every city I'm looking at is near a lake or river and the option isn't even appearing grayed out. I do have Plastics researched.

Nah, your bugged apparently.

I went through and built factories last night with coal plants.
Later on they still had the option to build hydro plants (at least those on the rivers).

I still built the 3 gorges cause I knew that the cities I was about to go take would need power later on.

Odd situation there.

To note that with the RAMPANT amount of unhealthiness :yuck: in BTS, I will probably skip coal plants from now on.

in warlords i use to have problems where my cities would build a nuclear plant then build a coal plant then have to build a nuclear plant, then a coal plant, it seemed everytime i added a new plant it erased the old ones, it happened in most my cities on most my games, thought it was built into it.

Yes you can only have one power plant per city

You can build more than one power plant per city (build coal then add a hydro or nuclear later to get rid of the unhealthiness caused by the coal power plant)

I have done this in my current game so I know it works (well i built a coal and then the three gorges in the same city).

When you are in the city view screen, is the hydro building dark? Is it even shown in the city view screen? Give us a screen shot or save with this problem.
