informational poll
up for 2 days

if citizens get an award or are honoured officially, should they be allowed to name a city or landmark if they did not do already?

If we were allowed to rename captured cities, there would probably be enough cities to name one after every citizen :D

Should an awarded citizen bee able too change a name that have been named by someone else? If I dont like the name Foxs nest for example should I bee able to change it to Majors nest? After all I did risk my life (or whatever) for the country.

ONLY new cities. I wouldn't like my capital of San Francisco to be renamed by some one else, it just wouldn't be cool. :D

naming rights are only for new cities.
renaming of captured/flipped cities has to be voted for.
a newly elected governor can name 1 of his cities in the first week(!) of his duty. he is the only one to rename cities, even if they have been named by someone else (example: plexus could have renamed civanatoria to plexatism in his 1st week)

Newly captured cities can be used in the naming rights chain as well. It has to be stated by the Designated Player when the city is taken/flips.

another idea for the honoured citizens (maybe we wont get enough new cities for them) would be that they are allowed to rename any city which has not yet being named by another citizen.
this way they would not conflict with the naming rights chain or the naming right of the governors.

As President, I am reviving this poll to show that honored citizens do have naming rights, per this poll.

This results of this poll, in and of itself, cannot over-rule what is in our constitution. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19271)

Naming rights are in Chain of Command order with the exception of cities renamed (via a poll) by new governor's in the first week of their term.

I sincerely hope our President will uphold the Constitution.

well, propably this could be the starting of a change then... the will of citizenry is also written down, so if citizenry wants this right, we should do our best to implement it.

Well, the trouble is that we have a system in place and it takes time to change it. We have to have a discussion about the specific rule change and then a poll and then a cabinet vote. Oh, and us mere citizens can't post polls on rule changes so we have to get a cabinet member to do it...

btw:
if we implement the new constitution without laws, this would be a prefect moment to come thru with a proposal for naming-rights

Give that man a cigar!:groucho:

And we wouldn't even have to make the naming rights a law - it could be a standard. Or better yet we could just use this poll as a basis for doing what the citizens want. :)

i just couldnt resist the possible cut-over ;-)
to be serious: we should implement something like this however:
like
* coc name new cities
* governors name one city in the province if they take over a province
* honoured citizens name a city in the province they live in
to all applies: no city already named by someone is to be renamed. exception: citizen doing original naming expelled form game
