View Full Version : Airlift?
Drawmeus Jul 25, 2007, 06:02 PM Just built my first BtS airport, no airlift option under conditions where I'd have been able to airlift in Warlords... help?
EDIT to update: One city with an airport can airlift, one can't. One city on the destination continent (neither have airports) can receive them (incidentally the just-conquered one still revolting) and one can't.
Lord Shadow Jul 25, 2007, 06:16 PM - The unit you want to airlift mustn't have moved in the same turn.
- The sending city itself mustn't have airlifted another unit in that turn.
- The receiving city mustn't have received another airlifted unit (no matter from where) in the same turn.
Drawmeus Jul 25, 2007, 06:31 PM I figured it out. My automated workers (I know, I'm lazy) were shipping themselves overseas.
I understand how it works, I just didn't realize workers would automate THAT.

They probably should put it in the options... auto workers use airlifts Y/N (so you can turn it off during a War/mobilization time)
Or else make sure auto airlifts don't happen until 'end turn' is hit

It's not about laziness. :p
Automating workers is a must once your empire grows large enough, especially when you have to replace all those roads with railroads. That'd be a micromanagement hell without the automate option.
I don't fully automate my workers, given a guide hosted here in CivFanatics says they build too many farms and too little cottages. However, that guide was written for vanilla Civ4 (and presumably one of the earlier versions), so things might've changed since then. Does anyone know?

LOL, I only automate trade when my workers have nothing to do, or railroad.
Drawmeus Jul 25, 2007, 08:34 PM I automated it because I was playing two difficulty levels lower than usual and assumed I'd be fine no matter what.
Wrong, wrong, wrong, and my economy was in shambles early, but that's another story.
I frequently go so far as to not even automate my railroad building, and I definitely check the options that don't let automated workers remove forests or remove stuff I've built...

They said that automated workers have been improved and listen to the city Govenor. But I am not sure if they fixed the problem or just reduced it.
I also don't allow automated workers to remove trees or improvements. And they should have one of these for air lifting.
Jaybe Jul 26, 2007, 01:33 AM I've never trusted auto-workers. Micro-managing workers gives me plenty to do in a marathon game. Almost never have a turn that's just-press-return.
Cosmic_Fist Jul 26, 2007, 01:45 AM - The receiving city mustn't have received another airlifted unit (no matter from where) in the same turn.
If the receiving city has an airport, it can receive several units in the same turn from different cities.
TheDS Nov 09, 2007, 02:17 PM Do you know how many? I just discovered this, and came here to see if anyone knows the limit yet.
Infantry#14 Nov 09, 2007, 09:52 PM the one unit limit kinda sucks, because you can barely reinforce new cities. The new limit (for airlifting to) should be 3 instead of 1.

If the destination city has an airport, there seems to be no limit on how many airlifts it can receive.

Effectively the limit is how many other airports you have, since you can airlift out of each only once per turn. But yes, with an airport, the destination has no limit.
MrCynical Nov 10, 2007, 04:41 AM The system is that a city with an airport can airlift one unit per turn (as long as it hasn't moved. A city without an airport can't airlift units, but can receive one unit per turn. A city with an airport may receive an unlimited number of airlifted units per turn.
You can also airlift to the cities of vassals and colonies under the same restrictions.
