View Full Version : Fixing NextWar

This has been mentioned before in the forums, but it needs to be said again. The mod version of Next War needs patching. As far as I can tell there are at least two major problems:

1. You get the scenario music playing repeatedly from 4000 bc.

2. America inc and the other scenario empires are included in the civ list, which is silly.

Personally I feel that the best way to fix it would be to include the Next War epic additions in the default version of BTS and have the extended and classic versions as options in the main menu. But I would be happy with a fixed version of next war with everything from the default version plus the extras.

There's another thing too, the next war mod turns of the choice of religions, I'm not sure if it turns anything else off though

I think there are more problems:

* Modern sounds in city from 4000 BC
* No ethnical unit graphics

I'm playing the NWM at the moment and the "choose which religion to found" option works flawlessly for me.

But I noticed two other problems so far:

1. The Apostolic Palace is missing.

2. (As Danielos already mentioned) When you zoom in on a city or go to the city screen, you always hear the city sound effects from the modern era regardless of the current age.

Ah....okay the religion thing is my fault then as I went for the Play Now option, instead of a custom game.....ignore me.

I'm using the expanded mod and ethnical units are in, original music as well, the modder removed Mr big and Cie, however the new apostalic palace is sorely missing...but its Next War's fault not his.

I will also take this opportunity to suggest a new mod idea, a next war/gods of old hybrid. That would basically be gods of old with the extended tech-tree of next war. it could be called:

Mechs O' Potamia :D

I also feel that Next war added to the epic game is a bit imbalanced, what do you think? Maybe that should be modded as well?
Mechs O' Potamia :D:lol:

Actually I think this is a GOOD addition, after all if Rome + Byzantium; the HRE + Germany are able to be played in 4000 BC there is nothing wrong with America + America Inc. being played in 4000 BC. (although a better name might be needed for America Inc.) Because I might want to play as Europa or the Southern Empire, if i am going to be playing with Mechs

Otherwise only play Rhye's with only Sumer in 4000 BC

I'd say
1. Fix the music
2. Add in the AP
3. Add in Ethnic units
4. Probably... modify Christo Redentor so that it becomes Obsolete Later (not Mass Media)

Leave the new civs... the Eastern Empire fighting the Persians is as realistic as the Americans fighting the Babylonians

Krikkitone - you do make a good point, but then we really need some new leaderheads and UUs.

True, basically they need to be developed a little bit more
PS I'm getting it today (bday) what are the UU/UB/traits/characteristics of the civs in Next War?

I think the UUs are the same as for America, China, Egypt and Greece.

The Next War civs are regular civs renamed. Mr. Big is Washington, His Excellency is Alexander, The Glorious Leader is Qin, and The Lady is Hatsheput. Everything is identical. The Next War epic game suffers from the fact that the scenario and epic version use the same mod, and that that mod was designed for the scenario with the epic version as an afterthought.

OK, In that case, some quickly generated new UU/UB for the civs (the names seem fine, the pictures should probably be changed though)

America Inc.:
UU a combined+strengthened Paratrooper/Marine unit [This should probably be added to the Next War Mod, say with Fiber Optics, and then give America Inc an Improved Version.. but it also works as a simple Paratrooper or Marine Replacement]
UB Broadcast Corporation... replace Tower gives +10-20% gold, +25-50% Trade route Yield

Europa:
UU VTOL plane (Gunship with Intercept planes capability and some other Improvement)
UB Airport that gives +exp to Gunships, or + something to Specialists (+1 commerce per specialist)

Asia
UU Mobile Artillery (killing capacity, Free Drill I promotion)
UB Security Center that gives + 10?15?25? % to military Production

South
UU Revolutionary... Spy with improved anti-spy ability, and automatic 'sitting bonus'
UB Hospital..+0.2 food per Plantation Resource (like Corporations would)

That should fit with their chosen Civics... I guess the Traits are good (as there aren't 4 Trait combos left... and the ones they have fit fairly well)

What is the advantage of biomissiles over regular ones? With my missle ships i find loading them with tactical nukes is the best bet.

I say the whole nuclear thing should be fixed. Why does the Earth crack like an egg when you lob a couple of nukes. The nukes would barely scratch the surface. So why does the Earth crack like an egg when you use too many?

Either that or actually have the Earth crack like an egg, killing everyone (don't even need an effect, just have all civs die on Earth)

Well, it is Fictional. But your right, I've found after 10 nukes its game over, a bit too short for how AI loves to use tactical nukes.

there is a bug in Advanced Start, where you can't buy buildings; I'm using the last patch and i don't know if anyone reported it yet

there should be a counter against dreadnoughts and assault mechs

the elections are always won by the Southern Empire, they vote for them and the 2nd biggest empire / the New League of Nations' builder is always in second, as the candidates vote for themselves, and the non-candidates abstain, and the empire with more population is the Southern

Would fixing Next War involve making Aquaculture less shabby? +2 food on fishing boats does not a worthwhile tech make.

So it takes 10 nukes to crack the Earth like an egg? I thought it'd be 20 or 25 or something
