View Full Version : Scotland Yard (aka the Sumerian skyscraper of 1000 AD)

So I was enjoying my first game of BTS :D when Gilgamesh, my neighbor and muslim friend, decides to go to war with me (smart move since I was focusing my attention on Zara Yaqob...).

Well, it essentially turned into who could get the most spies into the other civilization's cities. Gilgamesh managed to get a Great Spy, which he promptly used to build Scotland Yard.

Mind you, the year is around 1000 AD. At first I didn't believe it, but sure enough standing in the pathetic little Sumerian city was Scotland Yard, and it dwarfed the other buildings considerably.

I know this is just a matter of aesthetics (new tech ;) ) and spearmen can fight tanks etc, etc... but having a spy which you can get very, very early in the game be able to build a skyscraper is rather silly.

In short:
The Great Spy's ability to build Scotland Yard is okay, but the appearance of the building should be changed if it can be built so early.

EDIT: I do not know if this makes a difference but I am playing with the NextWar mod. I assume it does not since no one has gunpowder yet...

Obviously a lot has changed since it was first built, and now I control the city, but sure enough there is Scotland Yard in the (what used to be) backwards Sumerian city...

It is odd, but it looks kinda cool, though :p

But you're right about it needing a different appearance :)

Hehe. I built SY before 1AD in my most recent game thanks to GP points from the Great Wall. I'm surprised it's available so early. I'd think you'd need some later technology to enable it, like you do for the Military Academy.

Also, this is not really related... but has anyone ever seen this before?

Boudica must've bought this city in the Advanced Start because the first religion founded was christianity.

I guess if I wanted to poison their water I would have to be on a completely different island

I'm pretty sure this is a bug. The same thing happens with GGs, they can build a military academy long before you discover it.
