View Full Version : BTS: Mods not configured to be Multiplayer?

We noticed as we tried to play the WWII mods multiplayer that, after following loading directions as per rulebook, the multiplayer function was disabled. (Directions being: load mod, select multiplayer)

Any insight into what we may be missing would be appreciated.

Some mods cannot be played in Multiplayer. Period.

True, however World War II is one that SHOULD be made for multiplayer and I'd like to see this fixed as well. It's a "what if" war scenario and would be extremely fun to play against a human opponent. Be great fun to play the Axis against my room-mate. I know he'd be trying REALLY hard to take me down if I did something like that. lol

It already has been fixed. In Dale's recent beta add-on download you can now play WWII: Road to War as a MP game. I'm not a MP person, but I sure would like to hear how it works with MP.

In any mod that doesn't allow multiplayer, just go into the config file (it's an xml file in the mod's folder) and where it says

; This mod is only for single player games
SinglePlayerOnly = 1

just change the 1 to a 0 :D

It should work just fine

If only it was that simple. For mods and scenarios with major python modifications it has to be written to have multiplayer compatability or your just going to run into errors and glitches when you play.

The sad fact is the one of Firaxis's weakness is that they don't seem to take multiplayer into consideration when making their mods. They do simple little things like hard coding for player 0 when they could just as easyly get the iPlayer from a unit or getActivePlayer.

O, well, maybe they will release an expansion of nothing but MP mods and scenarios. I know I'd pay 40 bucks for it. Heck, I've spent more then 40 hours just trying to get a handful of them to work in hotseat, not to mention the headaches of getting LAN to work. :crazyeye:

I really don't know how you guys play SP. All we do here is play 3 or 4 man MP games.Nothing better than blowing up your buddies transports right before he unloads on your coast. I just don't get the same rush from killing AI's. And yes the treachery of the behind the scenes diplomacy is awesome. Fireaxis, tighten up the dang MP for Mods...

I MIGHT play multiplayer if you could have a separate lobby for Newbies
nice people
humans.

Right click on the name of the obnoxious person in the lobby-list (bottom right) and choose 'ignore'. There are plenty of cool people.

See you there.

Too bad, because multiplayer opens a whole new dimention (or demention) to the game. You're missing out.

Dimension. And I only have connection to the internet on a computer that can handle civ twice a week. And I have only won one game on Warlord. And I got the game for Christmas in 2006.

That I can understand. I was worried that you were avoiding it just because of the few jerks in the lobby.

Keep reading civfanatics and you will soon be winning on noble, I'm sure.

And I can't play multiplayer because of this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=239135).

I would love a link to this but will try and find it in these vast halls...
