View Full Version : Stanley Cup
De Lorimier May 30, 2002, 09:26 AM There's gonna be a 7 game in the west so I'm not sure who's going to continue to the final but...
I think either the Wings or the Avs will win the cup against the Carolina Hurricanes.
My heart is with the Canes cuz everyone think they're gonna lose to whoever comes out of the west but it would be nice to prove then wrong.
Anyone remembers the Hartford Whalers? ;)
Go Habs Go!
floppa21 May 30, 2002, 11:47 AM I'm rootin my butt off for Carolina if the Wings beat the Avs. Stupid Avalanche. Couldn't even get 1 lousy goal on home ice... Buncha faeries... No good lazy bums. :( Tomorrow's game will be interesting though. And I'd trade Tanguay for a bucket of chicken!!!
De Lorimier May 30, 2002, 12:29 PM And what about Patrick Roy...nice goal he gave huh?
;)

;) Yeah - his cockiness makes him great most of the time, but he sure looks like a fool when he blows it, doesn't he?
And the Red Wings do suck. Avs in 7,again.
If Montreal or Toronto would have made it past Carolina, I would've actually wanted the Red Wings to beat my home team just to have an Original 6 revival game. I was glad to see 5/6 original teams in the playoffs this year (stupid Rangers!), it's pretty rough watching the southern teams do so well (although ultimately it's good for the sport, I think).
floppa21 May 30, 2002, 01:03 PM Well Toronto is like Philly for me. The fans make me hate the respective teams... I was cheering the Islanders in the 1st round! :goodjob: I was cheerin Montreal though for sure. But they need more than a goaltender. Seems like that's all they've ever had, well, since the 70's...
Dirty Avs better win.
animepornstar May 30, 2002, 05:23 PM forsberg tends to be better the more important the games are. he will win this for avs.
btw, i have forsberg´s stick from -92 or -93. :goodjob:. i have talked to him a couple of times too.:yeah:
Immortal May 30, 2002, 05:29 PM I HATE Patrick Roy with a passion, anything related to him makes my stomach turn. Im going for the 'canes simply because Colorado and Detriot have won it too many times in the last few years.
CornMaster May 30, 2002, 05:54 PM I think it will be Detriot....the Avs have a lot of hurt players...and Detriot played pretty solid last game....
And it's hard to bet against Hasek. :)
Vinc May 31, 2002, 04:55 AM I still think if Carolina would not have gotten a 5 on 3 against Montreal we would have won against the Hurricanes.
Anyway, I predict Red Wings to win.
Goodie Hut May 31, 2002, 07:13 AM Tonights game will be good for sure; and it is the stanley cup finals as far as I'm concerned. Both the red wings and avalanche would beat carolina easily.
I'm definitely rooting for the red wings on this one as I cannot stand the avalanche, Roy, or Forsberg. It was great to see Roy get screwed on his statue of liberty stance without having the puck.
For Forsberg to make a difference, he has to be able to shoot. I'm not sure he even had a shot in thursday's game. I know he didn't have one midway into the 3rd period at any rate. If the wings continue to control him, they'll come out of it the winner.
floppa21 May 31, 2002, 07:51 AM Such animosity towards the Avs... WHY??? We WIN our Cups, we don't try to purchase it like the Wings... We do it by trading and drafting, Wings just pick up every free agent available... Sure we've picked up some people but some of that was through trades not free agency.
Avs will be victorious. Hard to bet against Hasek? Hard to bet against Roy! Avs win when they need to. No worries from this guy. But if they lose...

If I were in Quebec, I'd still be pissed at losing their team when they were the best in the league, having them move to Colorado, adding insult to the injury by picking up Roy from Montreal, then winning the Cup that year, and once more since then. It's absurd that Colorado has been to the conference finals every year but one since then. But, it's a blast, so no complaints here! There's just not a lot of hockey tradition here (remember the Rockies??), nor in Carolina. Time's change...
floppa21 May 31, 2002, 09:00 AM Well Quebec had some crap going on concerning the arena and money... And Roy NEVER would have gone to Quebec/Colorado franchise if they had not relocated. Quebec's last year in Quebec was a good one, lockout shortened season but I think 1st in their division? They lost in 1st round to Rangers but they were't exactly crap... Not to mention the AVs division was pretty weak until last couple years...
joycem10 May 31, 2002, 12:33 PM if the avs win tonight the cup finals will be a WHA revival game. the former new england/hartford whalers vs the former quebec nordiques. i think the winner should be given the arco cup as well as the stanley cup.
sappling May 31, 2002, 01:18 PM Avs rule. Forsberg will score 2 goals in the first period tonight. He will get one more in the third for the hat trick. Watch for the dumb/stupified look of the Wings fans in the Jo. It will be hard for them to go to their trailers and housing complexes after the game. All the Red Wing hacks will crying like usual.
floppa21 May 31, 2002, 01:23 PM I think Bill Clement & Gary Thorne will be sad if the Avs win tonight... Those guys seem like Wing fans calling the game... And Barry Melrose, don't get me started. Bad player, worse coach, and a pathetic color analyst. :)
Pray the officiating doesn't get out of hand. :scan:
sappling May 31, 2002, 01:33 PM Melrose is a nortorious Avs hater. I like to listen to the Avs games on the radio (Mike Haynes is the best announcer there is) rather than watch/listen to those Wings fans, er commentators, on ESPN/ABC call the games.
floppa21 May 31, 2002, 01:37 PM Yah Haynes is really great. Haven't heard a whole lot of other radio teams but he gets into it which is cool. :goodjob: But Melrose IS on Roy's side this year, he says "I'd never bet against him", well, except for the last 3 or 4 years...
Where is the Arco Cup joycem? HHOF?

I agree, Roy is an arogent SoB who finally paid (Man, I love it), if he hadn't tried his "Statue of Liberty" bulls***, that goal wouldn't have gone in, at the time I was certain it didn't go in (I was on the ground starting to cry :) ) God I hope detroit wins, for two reasons, I hate the aves (Roy especially, followed closly by Forsberg, Sakic, and the rest of the team), and I like Hasek, IMO he is the best goalie in the NHL, and he deffenatly deserves a cup more than anyone.
And yes, I would say all of the commantators are deffenatly pro Roy, even Melrose is and he has reason to hate him (remember '93) Roy is deffenatly greatly overrated. And no one give me the numbers, every goaltender stat is influenced by the rest of the team. You got good defense, your GAA & Sav% goes down, and wins goes up, it's hard to determine how good a goaltender is based on the numbers.

I agree, but I still hope Detroit wins. I'm gald that Carolina won their conference, and I hope they don't get swept. It's nice to see a new team make it to the Finals, esp. one from the South, this is a good thing for the sport.

the goalie is more important to the defense than the defense is to the goalie. a good goalie makes the defenders feel secure and they will know that the opponent won´t score as long as they do their job.

No numbers here... But uh... Roy is overrated? The Conn Smythe is not dependent upon the rest of the team... That's the Playoff MVP award. Same can be said for the Vezina which is Hasek's personal trophy. Or the Hart... I know I know, Gretzky is overrated too. He's a chump who was lucky enough to play with Kurri, Messier, Coffey, etc...
I repeat, !!!!
It's hard to determine how good a goaltender is by numbers. Well then look at what he's done in his CAREER! :)

I disagree, a good defense will keep down scoring chances down, therefore there will be fewer goals, and a higher GAA. I know how important a good defense is to a goaltender (look at my name :) )
A goalie is the most important part of defense, but he is nothing woth out defense.

A good goalie does good in the game not the career.
Hockey is a team sport. In hockey the team is important, not the individual. This makes it difficult to say how good someone is. A goalie cannot win a game, but he can prevent a loss, it comes with the territory. The rest of the team is also nesessary to win. Roy is on a team with speedsters and goalscorers (i.e. Sakic & Foresburg) and a defense (i.e. Blake; the one ave I don't mind) This is why Roy looks good.
joycem10 Jun 01, 2002, 09:22 AM yeah floppa its at the hockey hall of fame. i thibk there are a couple of copies floating around canada but i dont know where. maybe at the Avco HQ?
solarjetman Jun 01, 2002, 09:55 AM It's not only Roy, the entire team was awful. Worst performance I've seen by one of my local sports teams since Super Bowl XXIV...
GoalieCivPi Jun 01, 2002, 11:24 AM Ya, that was a blowout, man I couldn't have scripted it better, it was great!!! The only problem is that I missed the first period:cry:
Goodie Hut Jun 03, 2002, 08:09 AM Friday's game was spectacular for us Av haters/Wing fans. Now that Detroit is hitting on all cylinders, I sure feel sorry for the Hurricanes. It won't be pretty.
I would readily agree that Roy is not overrated. He is simply one of the best goaltenders to play the game. I do think that Hasek is the best goalie playing currently though.
With regard to the comment made about Detroit purchasing their team; yes, Detroit has a high (probably the highest) payroll in hockey. If you look though, you'll see that the Avs are a close second. I makes sense that Roy, Sakic, Forsberg, Hejduk, Drury, Blake et al are going to cost some serious coin as well.
floppa21 Jun 03, 2002, 08:16 AM Well being the Avs fan I am, I went through many emotions in the course of 5 hours (some more than once) Friday night. But now I am looking forward to the next season. As for the Finals, is there any point in watching? Does Carolina have a prayer of going 5 games? I admit I didn't see a whole lot of Carolina in the regular season but come on... Honestly, I don't mind seeing Yzerman get another Championship. Hasek I don't care too much for. (He flops like he's been shot if someone looks in his direction...) Of course, I think it would be cool for Francis to get another Championship also. I'll watch the Finals, I have to. I'm a hockey fan first and foremost. I'd wish fans of both teams that are left good luck but I don't think Detroit fans need it... ;)
GoalieCivPi Jun 03, 2002, 03:51 PM Carolina, probally doesn't have a prayer, but I wish the could hold out 6 games, or at least five. Oh well, we'll see.
