View Full Version : Looking for the good way to post instructions
fed1943 Aug 08, 2007, 02:53 PM This is a very practical matter, instructions must be posted in a way to make
DP's task as easy as possible.
So, rules are needed, while not necessarily legal ones. And, to be clear, they who know the good and easy format are DPs, as they have the job to understand and implement said instructions.
I, as one, will try and post my instructions in the way the actual DP asks,
unless of course some legal rule will change it. (Please, no computer tricks
requests, such as screenshots, links or spoilers).
Previously I had thought about and it looked to me the first step was to divide
the instructions as two branches: cities and workers.
And cities, again, as two branches: build queue and work force.
But now my first question: do you prefer each city at a time - its build queue,
then its WF - or build queue as first item branched for each city?
Do you prefer the builds just nominated, with or without change of production, or something like "change from...to..." ?
About WF: do you prefer figures (87) or letters (NNW) ?
At the begin and when some change in WF, by convenience or by grow, do
you prefer all positions posted (so,you never need to look at previous
instructions) or just what changes (so, you have less to read) ?
About workers: do you prefer the tile he has to work indicated by its
position from the tile he is on or by the relevant city?
And something more or different you want to say or ask, please.
Best regards,
Hyronymus Aug 09, 2007, 02:39 AM What I want to ask is if all Officials post their instructions in the instruction thread too. Some of the Officials post their instructions in their own Office but that's really an awkward way for the DP to find out all instructions.
dutchfire Aug 09, 2007, 04:05 AM I think the best way for governors instructions would be:
City X
Build queue: worker - granary - university
Citizens: Work the mined grassland hill and the iron mine
City Y
....
Workers:
Farm grassland SE of City Y
...

They do? When I'm DP I onlylook at what is in the official instruction thread. IS that why so many cities had no orders for th efirst session this term? :hmm:
I prefer NNW notation instead of 87 notation. Even better are screenshots showing how tiles should be allocated.
Build queses should be seperate. This allows the DP to set all the build queues before moving any units. (Assuming he knows how to set build queues. )
Changes are difficult to keep track of. If you know on which turn a city is to grow and you want the new citizen placed on a specific tile it helps to have this all laid out by turn. I'm suggesting something like this:
Turn 0, 1585 AD: instructions for this turn only
Turn 1, 1590 AD: instructions for this turn only
I guess an overall strcuture would be:
Build queues
Individual turn instructions as applicable (this would include tile allocations for turn 0)
tile allocations that can't be placed in individual turn instructions
worker actions that can't be placed in individual turn instructions
generic and conditional instructions that do not fit anywhere above
These are suggestions for individual governors (or whatever the current title is). It would be really helpful if these could be broken out, regrouped by province and posted together. For example, all build queues sent to one official who posts all build queues in one post. All worker instructions sent to one official who posts them all in one post, etc. More work for officials (or we get more officials to spread the work load). But it makes things easier for the DP and doing that increases chances orders will be carried out properly without errors and without being overlooked.

Me too. It's my understanding that the DP only has to follow the instructions in the TCIT and not any in the officials thread. The DP has enough work going between the game, chat, TCIT, notes, and anything else they do. Adding going through officials threads is adding a lot more work than the DP already needs.
Simply put, if the official doesn't post in the TCIT, than he/she has no instructions. DP acts in whatever way they see fit.

Correct.
By the way, it might be a good idea for the DP to mention in the TCIT how they want their instructions. Personally, I don't really like screenshots as I use wordpad to print all instructions, however someone else might like them.
Provolution Aug 12, 2007, 04:25 PM I guess interpreting the polls correctly, like picking Engineering first from that poll in the tech line, would be critical to serve in an office.
Hyronymus Aug 12, 2007, 04:39 PM I like governor's instructions as follows:
City
Build queue:
Workforce:
Other:
This is very easy to read and comprehend for a DP.
Methos Aug 12, 2007, 05:56 PM By the way, it might be a good idea for the DP to mention in the TCIT how they want their instructions.
This is probably the best idea. The DP should suggest how he/she prefers them, or in what way they would best understand them. More importantly is that they mention what is the most confusing or toughest for them to understand. That doesn't mean officials have to follow those guidelines, just that these would make it easier on the DP. Making it easier on the DP IMO, is one of the best ways to make sure the TCIT follows all the instructions.
donsig Aug 12, 2007, 06:04 PM dutchfire's idea does have merit and is a great suggestion. I agree with Methos that official's would not have to follow the guidelines.
grant2004 Aug 12, 2007, 08:48 PM The way I'd like instructions would be as follows
Build Queues:
City A
City B
Worker instructions
Worker A
Worker B
Other instructions
Grouping it by task seems to make the most sense from a DP's perspective, while grouping it by city makes the most sense from the governor's perspective.
