the unbelievable is not the score, cameroon won over argentina in wc90 by 1-0. the unbelievable is the way they won with a really good defense and dangerous counter attacks.

i watched the game with an italian and a spanish. they were eveb happier than i was after the match. :D

I thought that they deserved the win. They had a pretty impressive midfield, especially the left-winger. Although that striker was good he just couldn't stay onside. It just wasn't France's day. They really missed Zindane. However nothing should be taken from Senegal, brilliant victory. As they say, anything can happen in football.

You have never seen the crazy gang (Wimbledon) play. In their glory days that had this tactic of everyone running out of the box when a corner was cleared. There were occasions when 8-9 players were offside.

It has become some sort of tradition that in the opening game of the WC the defending champion doesn't win. Since 1974 only twice did the defending champion win. (got that from a dutch newssite)

I was in the München Hauptbahnhof when it happened and everyone watching the game on the big telescreen thingy cheered 'til their faces were purple and/or teal.

Brazil beat Scotland in the opener of France 98, and Germany beat Bolivia in the opener of USA 94. So it hasn't beentoo long since the defending champions won their first game.
France could be in trouble now if they don't win their remaining two games. Anyone fancy them to get knocked out. Seems unlikely, but if they draw one and win one; 4 points doesn't always get you through.

Great news! I didn't see it cuz i got finals and I need my sleep. (it was on at 4:30am!) but amazing, I was totally shocked at the result. Good for Senegal, that has got to be the best first ever world cup game for a starting team! If they can beat france, then anything is possible...

I think not. It is apparent that France is nothing more but a mediocre team. It's defence is aged, i.e. weak and slow instead of experienced. This was shown very well in the match against Senegal, a team luring for the counter. Diouf is very fast, and they knew that: all Senegalian players play in the French league.

Lemere substituted awfully: in the end, the French played a 4-2-4 system. How can you possibly win a game like that? I think that the French are tactically very strong and are able to dominate other teams who don't play on the counter, but I am afraid that Lemere will spoil the whole thing.
