View Full Version : Combat Animation Issue
Barbarossa6969 Aug 12, 2007, 12:34 PM Ok, basically what happens is a 2 of the enemy guys go down right at the start, then a few seconds later, one pops back up, another few seconds and the third one pops back up. When the combat ends it does so suddenly and with all the enemies having been on their feet (or their horses feet...) The screenshots included are ordered from 1st to 3rd, in the order I took them to help illustrate what I'm talking about. I've also included a save, not sure if the problem will reproduce on someone elses computer or not, but might as well have the option of trying. I set it up to illustrate the problem quickly and easily, all you'll have to do is attack the city to the left with the tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as none of the things I have tried so far have fixed it, and not only does it make it rather hard to tell whats going on in the battle, its also really fricking annoying! I'm hoping to avoid a reinstall so I haven't tried that, but if no one can figure it out I'm sure I'll have to try that out. I'm using the steam version of Beyond the Sword. (<3 steam, it rocks now ^_^ digital distribution ftw!) I'm not completely sure but it seems like it may have started when I decided to try out the "Stack Attack" option. I think thats everything, thanks to all who try to help!
Barry Bonds Aug 14, 2007, 05:35 PM Does the enemy still die, or do they remain alive?
Barbarossa6969 Aug 15, 2007, 01:54 AM Well the ones who died at the start, they don't actually animate in combat, they just stand up and sit there, so those ones are dead, and if I win the combat, the unit is destroyed. Its mainly an issue of it making it hard to tell whats going on and being really annoying...
Barry Bonds Aug 15, 2007, 09:01 AM Okay, okay. I just needed to know because if they remained in combat then it would be more of a game screwup. It should eventually go away though.
Awkward Robot Aug 16, 2007, 02:54 AM I've had this exact same problem since installing the latest patch. Not positive if that's the problem, but it wasn't a problem before the patch and I don't recall changing anything else.
Also clicking on a hyperlink within the civilopedia crashes my game since the patch, though that's another problem entirely.
Barbarossa6969 Aug 16, 2007, 10:57 PM Well not being able to tell whats happening in combat except by the final "whatever unit was destroyed while defend/attacking a whatever" message, which doesnt always stay up very long is kinda a problem... -_-
And umm, you think its just going to go away? You're kidding right? O_o
Yea, it happened right around when the patch came out for me too, but I think it may have been like the day before or something, might have been after though, can't remember for sure, but I'd think then I would have figured it was the patch...
Ghost Ranger Aug 17, 2007, 03:48 PM Try turning on single unit graphics somewhere in the options.
Barbarossa6969 Aug 18, 2007, 04:35 PM -_- I know that... the point is to fix it so that I don't have to...
Ghost Ranger Aug 18, 2007, 05:43 PM You will probably have to either downgrade to 3.02 or wait for the next patch.
Snazzye Aug 22, 2007, 04:00 AM I noticed it did this to me as well after I updated to 3.03. My game would also crash too at the same spot. This was a saved game of mine that I was playing before I downloaded the 3.03 patch.
I started a new game and now the combat animations are back to normal and so far no crash. Are you guys getting the weird combat animations with a new game or are you playing a saved game from pre-patch?? Maybe the patch corrupts previous saved games???.... All I know is that its working fine now after starting a new game with 3.03.
