View Full Version : European competition
Dell19 Jun 01, 2002, 03:14 AM So me and Willem discussed the idea of running a competition for the Champions league and I have attached the spreadsheet that we could use if we want to run it ourselves. The only things that need filling in are: the predicted scores, the actual scores and the first four team slots need to be filled in each table (B5, B6, E5 and E6). The spreadsheet may not work but I am hoping it will, and it works on my computer.
Post your comments please!
Dell19 Jun 01, 2002, 03:31 AM Heres the file again. I had to zip it as its a .zlr file so you may need Microsoft works to view it...I may be able to convert it though or make it in an older version.
Dell19 Jun 01, 2002, 03:34 AM Here is the spreadsheet as an excel spreadsheet (from 97 -2000)
willemvanoranje Jun 01, 2002, 04:08 AM I checked your spreadsheet, and it works fine. We only have to discuss the way points are given. Also I think it would be nice to let people answer 3 bonusquestions like how many goals will be scored in total, who will be topscorer and how many games will end in a draw.
Dell19 Jun 01, 2002, 04:13 AM Well it will be relatively easy to change the points although I have not used absolute cell referencing so it may take a little while. The bonus questions are fine by me and I don't mind the points changing but I would like them to be kept the same.
willemvanoranje Jun 01, 2002, 04:51 AM I didn't mean it that way; what I meant was more: How does the point-system work? 5 points for having all correct I think I saw, but what about only predicting the winner right or the goals for one team? How did you do that?
Second, after Phase 1 we have to make a new spreadsheet: am I right when I say the teams are drawn for Phase 2 and not automatically end up in a poul with nr.1 of group A and nr. 2 of Group B?
Is there a draw in later stages too? I don't know that....
Dell19 Jun 02, 2002, 12:39 AM I was following the same points system as the competition we are already in. 3 points for the correct result, and 1 point for each score that is correct for a team. There are more draws and I think they are based on drawing names rather than having an actual system of Group 1 winners playing group two winners so I cannot do the later rounds until they draw the groups. I don't know how I am going to organise it though...Should we have veryone's predictions on one spreadsheet or have one spreadsheet for each person.
willemvanoranje Jun 02, 2002, 12:47 AM Maybe someone can write a small program where one can put in the results participants predicted and where points are counted automatically when putting in the actual result.
We have to wait for the qualifying rounds too by the way.
Shabbaman Aug 19, 2002, 06:46 AM Say Dell, I downloaded the excel zip, but it's empty. It might be a server problem, but I can't review your sheet this way anyhow.
Dell19 Aug 20, 2002, 02:31 AM Which one? It should work but there may be an error when I converted it.
Dell19 Aug 20, 2002, 02:38 AM I've reattached the Excel 97 - 2000 file to this post so you can try downloading this one. if you have a different version then tell me and I will convert the spreadsheet so that you can use it.
Shabbaman Aug 20, 2002, 04:28 AM "Download succesfull"
Dell19 Aug 20, 2002, 01:05 PM Good :)
