View Full Version : What is the "improved" AI thinking here??
Brutus2 Aug 15, 2007, 08:11 PM So, Ragnar decides to declare war on me out of the blue. He lands his "invasion force" on the same turn he declares war. But his force is nothing but five catapults???
In BTS siege weapons have a max damage and therefore can not kill anything, correct?? What is he planning to do with only catapults??
My Knights come down from Argos and take out all five cats with no problem before they even get to attack.
On the next turn he lands another three cats in the same spot, again no other units, just cats. Again my Knights take them out.
On the next turn he lands three units. I forget exactly what they were but still. He plans to invade me with three units???
Again my Knights take them out and that is the end of his "invasion" and I don't see any more units from him.
Since I was going for a culture win, I accepted peace as soon as he was ready to talk.
sigmakan Aug 15, 2007, 08:55 PM Tokugawa did the same against me, except he sent ONE galley that had TWO catapults in it. I was currently at war with someone else, so I just let him sit there and bombard my defenses.
Silence101 Aug 16, 2007, 04:57 PM The AI is trying to lul you into a state of overconfidence with it's legions of unaccompanied catapults - and then when you least expect it, it'll strike with it's ambushed troops!
It's an advanced stratagy... so learn to tremble when you see catapults without an escort. It means the end is near.
Via Aug 16, 2007, 07:35 PM This thread can go to bug section IMO. Its clear that AI is not updated with that siege units - max damage thing.
50_dollar_bag Aug 16, 2007, 08:03 PM Same thing with me, Izzy had a archer and a catapult 2 tiles away from a city defended by a chariot, I panicked a bit and whipped an archer only to find her send the catapult in by itself, it attacked and I won:goodjob: but even if it'd retreated then what?
kniteowl Aug 17, 2007, 03:01 AM well maybe he only has catapults because he doesn't have any metals or horse to build other military units.
IronCrown Aug 17, 2007, 03:09 AM He could always make archers. And if he can't muster a force capable of attacking, he obviously shouldn't attack ;)
kniteowl Aug 17, 2007, 06:47 AM yeah he could build archers but the Catapults make better defenders compared to archers. Besides I think it's his personality, I hear people say it closely resembles Monty.

I'm not sure you understand the point here. After BTS siege units can not kill any other unit. They have a max damage cap. Once they do X amount of damage they stop attacking. Therefore attacking with only siege units has a 0% chance of success. Are you saying it's his personality to attack with units that can weaken but never defeat the defenders?
nbcman Aug 17, 2007, 09:34 AM This is a definite bug. The AI should not only send siege units to attack since they cannot kill any units in BTS.

lol my bad I forgot about that, I Was thinking about if the stack were attacked that the Cats make better defenders then Archers, and also the fact that His personality leans more towards war.
I can see the bug now lol...
