This is the official thread for the National Science Department (term 3). I will post a poll over research every 3 techs. The science department strongly discourages the trading of key ttechnology's. (Key meaning techs that produce wonders/goverments.)

Here's the way things will work: All suggested science queue's or anything else will be put into the science proposal thread. I will post a poll over what we should research occasionly (or when were running out of techs left to research) Anything that has to do with trading techs/ or anything that someone deems important will be posted in this thread.

A very good Strider, taking an idea of mine that we should give the people more choice on technology research. I'm very pleased with you.

I would like to draw the NSD's attention to two threads which contain information about gaining foreign technologies for our country.

Trades possibilities for 1130 AD (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23701&pagenumber=1)

and

Foreign Affairs proposal for Jun 2 turn. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23778)

IMO we should have tentative plans for up to 7 techs. Each round of trading could result in 2 or 3 techs gained and a turn chat could even have 2 rounds of trading.

Ok... (sorry about my inactivity, but I'm not at home right now :)

Ok I'll check the things out and get updated later.

We're currently discussing which techs to obtain for trades in the turn chat. I'm still following last term's order as there have been no further updates:

Next- Magnetism
After- Metalurgy or Free Artistry

The domestic department requests that our next science goal be industrialization so that we may develop universal suffrage.

Do we not research Medicine, then Sanitation?

Steam Power
Industrialization
Medicine
Sanitation
Electricity
Scientific Method
Atomic Theory
Electronics

I fully agree with Shaitan's plan. Replacement Parts is also important and if it is inserted into the list, probably between scientific method and atomic theory. But it is not a necessary move.

My prefered queue:

1. Steam Power
2. Electricity
3. Medicine
4. Scientific Method
5. Industrialization
6. Sanitation
7. Atomic Theory
8. Electronics

We should bee-line to Scientific Method and (pre)build Theory of Evolution. ToE gives us two free techs and is out best shot at getting the tech lead.
Replaceable parts is good but we already have nartionalism and can't even afford to upgrade to riflemen yet! Universal Suffrage is not imperative to have. Avoiding wars all together is the best way to combat war weariness!:)

Should the NSD be looking for a chat representative? I forsee that I will be on holiday in Greece (yes, in real life!) from 10 June until 20 June and so may not login as often.

The President's office would like to publicly thank the NSD for formulating the long science queue. Keep up the good work!
The President's office also requests that the NSD lay plans for Phoenatica to gain a technological edge over the other countries.

I was already planning something.... I was thinking of asking (ALOT) of gold for rush unversities/libries or see if I can talk to the culture department about rushing some in are greek border cities. Also the NSD the the cashh to buy techs.

I was thinking of asking (ALOT) of gold for rush unversities/libries or see if I can talk to the culture department about rushing some in are greek border cities.

This will have to be a long-term plan due to the current cash squeeze. It may work in conjunction with CAP.

Curufinwe
Jun 11, 2002, 11:18 AM
Strider, we can only build Universities to help us, every last city has a library, afraid huge costs (396 after 1 sheild, 4 less for every new sheild) so the rush cost may grow inhibiting, perhaps ask governors to change queues to a few more universities, but I see a lot happening already.

Strider
Jun 11, 2002, 12:29 PM
I know.... I made a list of which cities don't have universcities. Most of them don't, but ALL cities have a library.

I think we're at a key turning point here as our Science paths will differ from player to player. So I'm marking this point with another Science screen. Hope you like it, Strider. BTW, game year is 1315ad.

I will be gone June 15th to June 22nd. I've had computer problems and just got a new computer. Unluckily my back up disks are in england so I will be without a computer for some time. Zur and curu will have to take over for me.

Curufinwe
Jun 13, 2002, 03:02 PM
it seems as if every department I'm in has a leader missing. So instead of Strider I ask zur your opinion on this, in the constitution it says that science is in charge of research goals through research, espionage and conquering, but not trade. Does this not seem a bit odd do to the fact that a significant source of science is in trading, where as espionage has yet to be used by us and conquering is inefficient. What do you think of it?

Strider
Jun 13, 2002, 03:39 PM
I'm not missing curu, I'm just having computer problems. And it's only the 13th I'll still be here for two more days.

Curufinwe
Jun 13, 2002, 03:45 PM
sorry, then wha tis your opinion on it?

Strider
Jun 13, 2002, 03:50 PM
True, but I think they have it that way because of the trade department(which I am deputy of) Through I think the Science department should have the option to trade techs.

Zur
Jun 14, 2002, 12:03 PM
Then both Strider and I will be semi-MIA over the next few days. I will only be returning from the Meditteranean on 20th June and will only have internet cafe access till then, which makes it highly unlikely that I will be able to attend chats. I also have no access the civ3 program (no, I didn't bring it on my trip :p)

in the constitution it says that science is in charge of research goals through research, espionage and conquering, but not trade.

This is a point I made regarding how department(s) should sort out cross-departmental issues like this. Science is higher in the COC so if no prior decisions have been made, then Science would have the say, which may not always be appropriate. IMO, there should be some trade-off between the Trade/Science Departments if there is conflict. In these cases, the departments should work together as far as possible to reach some kind of decision beforehand (before turn chat).

This is made easier by me being the trade deputy.

That means from 15th to the 20th curufinwe is in charge of the science department. From 20th to 22nd zur is in charge.

Also which ever one of you is taking over please pm me the techs that researched after ech turn chat or when you find out.

With the coming nominations/elections I am afraid I might lose my poistion to those who are my equals and maybe even betters. Curufinwe and Zur are both excellent candiates for Science Leader. Of course if I get nominated for science leader I will try my hardest to keep my seat, but both zur and curufinwe have more idea's than me. My only idea was to bring the citizens into science discussions. Bring the people into the science discussions worked smoothly and soon we had a large queue set up. Recently that queue was challanged by the citizens and was desposed of by the citizens creating a new science queue. With a old idea of mine being proposed(secret right now and it might stay that way, but hopfully it will make it through)I might gain enough respect to win Science Leader again.

I have work from July 4th (you can guess what I do ;) ) I will still be able to check the forums, but will be unable to attend some turn chats. Sense Zur already said that he will only be able to attend half of the two enxt turn chats, I must urge curufinwe to attend them if possible.
