View Full Version : Question about effects of Golden Age
Rebeew Aug 15, 2007, 09:22 PM Does being in a Golden Age affect your cities' happiness level?
Also, does a Golden Age affect revolutions if you change civics. I think I read a thread claiming that there is no anarchy if you change civics during a golden age, but I'd like confirmation of that before I try it.
Please advise.

No, as far as I know.

In BtS, GA's allow you to change civics instanly with no anarchy. I am unsure whether there is a waiting period before you can change civics again.

There's no anarchy, but the 5 turn waiting period still applies.

Sort of.
A Golden Age does not directly affect your cities' happiness level, but if you have discovered Drama, you may be able to afford to raise your culture bar a notch or two because of the extra commerce you are generating from your cities.
20% culture with a Theater and a Coloseum gives 2 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 6 extra happy citizens (at an admittedly steep cost).
AlessioCerci Aug 18, 2007, 10:22 AM ^^^thats pretty irrelevant because they'll be unhappy when the GA ends, and you could just use the extra commerce to raise the research slider.
MrCynical Aug 18, 2007, 11:21 AM The effects of golden ages are:
+1 hammer on all tiles that generate at least 1 already
+1 commerce on all tiles that generate at least one already.
No anarchy when changing civics
+100% GPP production in all cities.
Babibo Aug 21, 2007, 06:14 AM I used to think that golden ages were underpowered. In my recent BtS games, I have tried to take advantage of its new effects by keeping my prophets and artists to trigger golden ages when I need to make a big civic change.
Like wonders, golden ages have a very nice "shiny effect", so I like to have at least one during my games for the fun of it, but I find it hard to evaluate the impact of a golden age compared to other uses of specialists.
By the way, I think that using more than 1 specialist for a golden age is far too expensive, except maybe to rush a space race when long term uses of specialists are less relevant. What do U think ?
And last, what about the Maussoleum of Halicarnasse ? (a pathetic attempt to translate the french name of the wonder, I don't remember the english name - let's say "The Golden Age wonder")
Ideas are welcome.

Erm ? The name of the wonder is Greek, and it is a mausoleum in Halicarnassus (Halicarnasse in French) for the King Maussollos (Mosole in French).
You know, more often than not, it is the original (or at least, Latin/Greek) name that is used in English, while we tend to have French versions of those names. There are exceptions, of course.
