I'm wanting to run the game on my laptop and it's crashing at init audio with a problem in lameacm.acm

this is located in the Ace MegaCodec pack that I have installed.
I uninstalled the codec pack and tried again and the set up told me that I wasn't using a valid audio device.
I have soundmax and upgraded to the latest driver.

After much trial and error I got the game to run.
I uninstalled my SoundMAX and installed a Creative Soundblaster USB that I have and made it my default.
Only version 1.52 will run.
After I got it running, played a while, saved and shut down, started up and played some more I uninstalled the Soundblaster USB and made SoundMAX my default audio again and the game started up but stated I was using an incompatible sound device, or something very close to that.
Any ideas as to why this may be happening.

Oh..
I also uninstalled Ace Megacodec Pack before trying what I just described.
