Diplomacy music:

From Elda King's suggestions:

EDAIN - Minas Tirith theme (perfect bit in mind)
MIDDLE MEN - Rohan theme
DARK MEN - I'll see if the ROTK soundtrack has any Harad bits, or maybe the Isengard theme
NOLDOR - the Lórien theme (the bit at the very beginning of the Lothórien bit)
SINDAR - something from Rivendell
AVARI - random Elf music
DWARVES - I'll see what I can pull out of the Moria bit
THE SHADOW - the Minas Morgul theme, or something else if it happens to be more suited.

and from Pariah's suggestions:

*Númenórean Empire - Nazgûl stuff
*Arnor Empire - maybe some Aragorn-related music
*Gondor Empire - Gondor theme - know the perfect bit (as I said)
*?Edain Empire - no idea, maybe more Aragorn-stuff

*Druedain or Púkel Men Empire - no idea
*Variag Empire - no idea

*Noldor Empire - probably some bits from Lothlórien

*Teleri Empire - no idea
*Sindar Empire - The poem-song I mentioned earlier
*Nandor Empire - no idea
*Falas Empire - no idea

*Vanyar Empire - no idea
^Probably for all of those I'll just take some random Elvish music

*Hobbit Empire - Flaming Red Hair [the party song]

For the elven songs, i was thinking about some nightwish's song, like moondance (which, in my opinion, would fit perfectly), or evlenpath. Would need a bit of music editing though, since we'de have to remove the voices and tone them down a bit, but still that'd make great elvish music.

Elda King

I would suggest to use some Enya, as well as some songs from Blind Guardian like Gandalf the Magician, Gandalf's Rebirth, By the Gates of Moria, and if we can remove the voices we can use Lord of the Rings, The Bards Song, and the album Nightfall in Middle-Earth.
I don't know Nightwish very well, but I'll see it.

Awesome! I didn't know Blind Guardian had songs about ME. I got one or two songs from them (the old Kazaa day) and I like the band. Maybe I'll get an album or two if I get to buy some music.

Maybe the Pukel Men could use the 'barbarian' music for normal civ4.

Elda King

Probably, as they will probably be barbarians... :p

Do You know that Jimmy Page and Robert Plant (members of Led Zeppelin) were ispired by the books of The Mighty Tolkien.
Some songs, for example talks about warriors and the cultures from the north, like the celts.

-Immigrant Song, Ramble On and The Battle of Evermore.-

If we need some Shadow music, we could use o fortuna from Carmina Burana, by carl orff.

Yeah, music will be very important, maybe a cool LOTR theme song from the movie could be going at the main menu? :)..would be great.

Would it be legal to just use music from the LOTR soundtracks

Love
Dec 09, 2007, 01:20 PM
Yes, since its a free and undependent mod (:shifty:)

Elda King
Dec 13, 2007, 01:40 PM
Truly, not. It's illegal even if we are not going to have any profit with the mod. But, in rigour, using names like Middle-Earth, Gandalf and such is also illegal. I discussed this with other Middle-Earth related modders for many games, they consulted lawyers and some even contacted the authorities (if I remember well, it was Saul Zaents Company), and truly all images, names and musics of the books and the movies are copyrighted, so we theorically would need to change everything a little. Also, putting excerpts from the books, using images from the movies and drawings by various artists (we found them on the Internet, and sometimes we don't even know the artists), using music from the movies, and everything is not legal. But, as far as we don't get any money with it, I don't think we are doing anything wrong, and they probably won't care about it. It's not like we are putting the whole soundtrack for download and speaking on the TV about it.

they wont care a flying . .. .. .. .

Elda King
Dec 13, 2007, 02:23 PM
So that's why we do this, and we'll keep with it. I've been told they even told a Tolkien-based modification to stop (the one the crew contacted the authorities, mostly by mistake), but nothing worse happened.

Seeing as you'll be infringing copyrights anyway, you can use 'May It Be', 'The White Rider', and 'The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins' <- silly one

HELL YES! I was thinking the same thing listening to their Nightfall album today. Though I think only evil factions should have any form of metal (I just can't see the Elves with metal music going with them). While were on Blind Guardian music, what about some of Led Zepplin's Tolkien-inspired songs? :P

Anyways, here are some of my music ideas for the factions at the moment. I can see if I can find some more Tolkien-related music:

The Dwarves
1. Moria Theme: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack
2. Dark Places of the World: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack
3. Dwarrowdelf: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack

The Noldor
1. Rivendell Theme: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack
2. The Council of Elrond: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack
http://lordofthering.narod.ru/film/soundtrack/The_Council_of_Elrond.mp3
3. Arwen's Theme: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack
4. Evenstar Theme: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack

The Sindar
1. Lothlorien: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack
http://lordofthering.narod.ru/film/soundtrack/Lothlorien.mp3

The Shadow
1. Into the Storm: Blind Guardian
http://rock-forve.narod.ru/mp3/blind_guardian/1998_Nightfall_In_Middle-Earth/02_Into_The_Storm.mp3
http://www.blind-guardian.com/new_version/discography/albums/Nightfall_in_Middle-Earth/lyrics.html#2
Of the Blind Guardian songs, this one seems the most appropriate for The Shadow. I probably wouldn't suggest include more then one or two Blind Guardian songs though.
2. Sauron's Theme: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack

The Dunlendings
1. The Treason of Isengard: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack
http://lordofthering.narod.ru/film/soundtrack/The_Treason_of_Isengard.mp3
2. 5 Beat Pattern: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack
3. Isengard Theme: LOTR Fellowship of the Ring Soundtrack

[Whichever civ is representing Ulfang's Easterlings, I'm still confused if its part of Rhun or Dunland]
1. Thorn: Blind Guardian
http://rock-forve.narod.ru/mp3/blind_guardian/1998_Nightfall_In_Middle-Earth/15_Thorn.mp3
http://www.blind-guardian.com/new_version/discography/albums/Nightfall_in_Middle-Earth/lyrics.html#15
OR
1. A Dark Passage: Blind Guardian
http://rock-forve.narod.ru/mp3/blind_guardian/1998_Nightfall_In_Middle-Earth/21_A_Dark_Passage.mp3
http://www.blind-guardian.com/new_version/discography/albums/Nightfall_in_Middle-Earth/lyrics.html#21

Either of these songs to represent Ulfang's men. The first one talks about lies and betrayal, while the second talks about the coming of men. Perhaps Thorn could go to Ulfang's Men, and Dark Passage to the Easterlings?

I think I found the find of a lifetime!

http://www.mj-holmes.com/SymphonicWorks.htm

Not only are these songs orchestral genius, they're also really long in length!

I was thinking that these could almost single-handedly could fill the Soundtrack for the mod, giving the background music a consist feel. However, by doing it this way, we can't really theme each civ with different music. I know diplomatic music is different for each civ (and even leader). Unfortunately, you don't get to hear those tracks very often at all.

Any ideas on what to do with these orchestral tracks? I could simply add one these long songs here and there to different civs. Already I'm finding tons of metal tracks full of Tolkien-inspired songs for evil, and I'm finding this really quiet orchestral music :crazyeye:

What do you all think?

those look good. email the women pease, asking her if we are allowed to use it in a Civ 4 mod.

It will be distributed to thoers, but only inside a game. i'de rather she know about and not sue us if she ever finds out.

Now I just gotta wait for their response (and for you to finish up the units so I can get to adding music to the mod :p).

Working on that now. Was also thinking about how the three beginning houses of Men were pretty unnecessary (as they would all come to form Numenor anyways).

Oh, speaking of civilizations, I'm giving the Barbarians city names in the Black Speech (I love that language!).

I'll be posting my revised civ and leader list up later hopefully.

I've found some 1 to 2 minute clips from the War of the Ring RTS game made by Sierra that I was thinking of using. I forgot the link where I found them, but they're pretty cool :D

Would like to hear what you can come up with though :)

I'll be hosting it up on MegaUpload, since its way too big to attach to an email :crazyeye: (will take awhile to get up there!)

A bunch of reasons for the crash. I didnt really pay attention to the errors coming up, cause they were WAY too numerous. I simply had to turn off the game.

And no, I haven't replaced everything yet. I will once a clear cut decision is made on civs.
