View Full Version : Turn Chat 1230 AD, June 5
donsig Jun 03, 2002, 06:32 AM The turn chat for the starting year of 1230 AD is scheduled for Wednesday, June 5, 2002 at 11:59 pm Greenwich time. (Not sure if it is GMT or GST. ) That's 6:59 pm in the eastern US time zone.:)
Here is the turn chat 1130 AD (June 2) thread. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23789)
Here is the save to be used: phoenatica1230.zip (http://www.civfanatics.net/uploads/phoenatica1230.zip)
We have entered the industrial ages behind both the Greeks and Iroquois. Our treasury has recovered to over 1300 gold thanks to our recent trade agreements with England and the Iroquois. Our economic picture will brighten further with the completion of Smith's Trading Co. on two turns and our Forbidden Palace the turn after that. Our fifth bank will be open soon after that and then Wall St. can be built.
Our defenses need attention. While we can now buy rifles for our troops we are still defended by pikemen and musketmen. (A couple spearmen, too!) Most of our mounted units are knights - we have but one cavalry regiment. Our navy consists of one or two ships. On the bright side, we have started building a military academy!
In our recent push to construct great wonders CAP has fallen by the way-side which has resulted in the loss of the gems near Tlaxcala to the Greeks. Chondote still has no Phoenatican culture!
The challenges that face us now are: the continued improvement of our economy, a techological lead over other countries, the modernization of our armed forces, the construction of a navy and the expansion of our cultural borders!
donsig Jun 03, 2002, 06:36 AM Instructions from the President's office.
1) Rename Washington to Valhall. The supporting poll is here. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23607)
Curufinwe Jun 03, 2002, 08:06 AM Chondote was changed to Library, if I had a budget I would of rushed it then.
Strider Jun 03, 2002, 07:45 PM Just follow the queue ;)
eyrei Jun 04, 2002, 09:11 AM Domestic Department:
Switch PDX to Palace (prebuild for factory) if the governor agrees.
Science: 60%
Taxes: 40%
Feel free to optimize this during the turns, if the science turns will not be affected.
Budgets: Foreign Affairs: 84 gold for an embassy in England
The rest should remain in savings for the time being.

punkbass2000 Jun 04, 2002, 04:00 PM I don't know if it's just me, but I can't download that save. I've been trying since yesterday, and I'm never able to even connect. As many of you know Justus is not going to be around much for a couple weeks, so this presents a bit of a problem, as I'm supposed to be doing CUltural Updates and instructions in his stead.
Curufinwe Jun 04, 2002, 04:43 PM Perhaps I could Punkbass.
punkbass2000 Jun 04, 2002, 04:44 PM Sure.
Curufinwe Jun 04, 2002, 04:57 PM I shall start soon, what do you want me to do, I'll give you some suggestions later.
punkbass2000 Jun 04, 2002, 05:09 PM Well, mainly the Cultural Report is to model Justus' reports. As for recomendations, it would essentially be anything that you recommend :) i.e., cities that have no cultural buildings, cities whose borders are being impinged upon by other civs, etc. Anything you think we should do that is related to culture.
punkbass2000 Jun 04, 2002, 05:11 PM A 'Justus-style' Cultural Report can be found in The Cultural Department Thread (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=23783), a couple of posts down.
Curufinwe Jun 04, 2002, 05:26 PM PB, I'll get one of those soon, now for the turn chat, note, in rushing I did not include colliseums, since I believe those to be wastes of time as of now. If I had to choose between Universities and Cathedrals I chose Universities and listed rush costs. Here it goes:
Rush:University Where: Tlaxcala Cost"336 Notes: Very costly, but needed to secure gems, involves queue change, perfectly legal
Rush: Library Where:Chondote Cost:112 Notes, no culture city
Rush:Temple Where:Heliopolis Cost: 164 Notes: I deem it to be low priority, you decide further
Rush:University Where:Justinian Cost:288 Notes, queue change, perfectly legal
Rush University Where: Asyut Cost: 64 Notes, 3 turns until built, not really neccesary
Rush:Cath WHere: Macao, Cost 304 Notes:too costly
Rush: University: Where: Alexandria Notes: needs queue change, legal, too costly
Rush: Temple: Where: San Francisco Cost: 112 Notes: should be low priority.
Curufinwe Jun 04, 2002, 05:27 PM Rush: UniversityL Where: New York Cost: 256 Notes: not sure if queue change neccesary, you decide whether to or not PB Now I'm off to do a Justus type report
Falcon02 Jun 04, 2002, 06:54 PM Move Musket in Philidelphia to Thebes.
Disband the two Spearmen.
eyrei Jun 05, 2002, 07:20 AM Where are the governors?
Curufinwe Jun 05, 2002, 08:08 AM PB, whenever you get here, please ask for about 112, this is enough tor ush a library in Chondote, or wait and rush that university in Tlaxcala, I'd say those are high priority, but you can decide.
Eklektikos Jun 05, 2002, 08:46 AM Having looked at the saved game, it appears that nothing will be completed before the FP, and if we're having the proposed short turn chat tonight then there's no point in my posting any changes at this point. So I guess this post is rather pointless. Spamtastic! :D
chiefpaco Jun 05, 2002, 09:32 AM Foreign Affairs
For all proposals, I am interested in the attitude change of the Foreign Leader.
Turn 0
Establish Embassy with England. This was approved by the domestic leader in the budget. Should be 84 gold.
Turn 2
Gift India and the Iroquois with 2 gpt each.
Edit: The Domestic Dept has notified me that 2gpt gifts may be impossible because we are running a deficit.
In this case, you may delay the deal until such time that our budget is in surplus. I hope that with the addition of the Forbidden Palace in turn 4(?) that we may be able to afford this.
Turn 5
Rome:
ROP expires. Renegotiate. Go for 5 gold or less from them with the ROP. If they will not take, straight deal ok.
Greece - able partner:
ROP expires. Try not to renegotiate. If they call us on it, go through same procedure as Rome.
Turn X
China and the Aztecs are broke again. We can renegotiate peace but can not gain much. Let it slide unless great opportunity arises.
Edit: Being the last post on the first page in my browser, I thought I would put a reminder for the player to open page 2 as well, in case they are set up similarly.

Chieftess Jun 05, 2002, 11:45 AM Trades for 6/5 turn chat
Rome - Has 16 gold in treasury. Unable to make a decent trade.
Aztecs - Has 3 gold. Currently trading Incense, Ivory, and Iron (which they reconnected!)
India - Renegotiate Ivory for Silks deal
Ivory --> World Map, 18 GPT, 90 gold up front (98 in their treasury)
They are willing to trade Steam Power for Ivory WM, and 810 gold (very pricey...)
Babylon - No viable trades. They do want a WM and 780 gold for their furs.
China - No viable trades (they are broke). They will give us a worker for 25 gold.
Zulus - 26 gold total (They're out of their economic depression!)
Incense or spices --> WM, 4 GPT, 20 gold
Iroquios - Doesn't want to trade Steam Power unless we renegotiate our dyes for 3 GPT trade. SP for dyes, WM, and 670 gold (pricey...)
Greece - Current Ivory deal: 18 GPT.
We can renegotiate for 12 GPT, and 140 gold upfront. (that's equal to 7 more GPT).
punkbass2000 Jun 05, 2002, 01:01 PM The Cultural Department would like a university rushed in Tlaxcala (budget application pending).
Strider Jun 05, 2002, 03:28 PM Sorry, but I will not be able to attend tonight's turn chat...
My computer got a virious and I have to let my virious scan get rid of it.

Chat log is here (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?s=&postid=314248#post314248)
1230 AD. A highlight in the Age of Trade is upon us, and changes are already taking place! After a lengthy naming cerimony, Washington was bestowed with the name, Valhall, and Tlaxcala was renamed, Cyrus. A few diplomats managed to sail accross the seas in their caravels, and offered England 84 gold to build a fine embassy in London. A review of London showed that they have all 8 luxuries. 3 spearmen and 2 pikemen units were seen walking through the streets. Once the embassy was established, General Falcon ordered the retirement of our 2 oldest Phoenatican Defense Units - Spearmen; 1 each in Byblos and Civantoria. A cerimony took place in the city of PDX, where the Queen of England even sent a diplomat to give a speech! One of our musketmen units from Philladelphia was ordered to head out to Thebes, to protect the Forbidden Palace that was still under construction. This decade also saw massive trading with the Zulus, who just recovered from their long economic depression, Greece, and India.
Ten years have passed and General Falcon is worried about the state of our military. "Other nations have guns on horseback! And along our borders too! Whilst our horsemen are still carrying swords!", exclaimed Falcon. At his command, 15 units were sent to Fox Nest, Civantoria, and Memphis to be trained as Cavalry. 3 units were kept at the borders to add in a "defensive show of force". Another decade would follow, and 7 knight units were trained as cavalry.
Some time later, a diplomat from India came, informing that our Silks for Ivory deal was about to expire! We asked to renew the trade, and India agreed, with a cost of 80 gold for India to ship their silks to us. Some years following that deal, another celebration started in Fox Nest. A trading company, founded by a former Spice Traders Guild executive, started a business that would pay for all buildings that deal with trade! The company is known as the Smith's Trading Company. It netted us a 23 GPT surplus! Five years later, our leaders started setting up their offices in Thebes. The announce came that the Forbidden Palace has been completed! This netted us 66 GPT more in addition to Smith's Trade (89 GPT total - including trade from other nations).
But, with the news of Smith's Trade, other nations started work on Newton's University. The University was completed in Nineveh, Babylon. Also of note in this illustrious decade, 8 more knight units were trained as cavalry. In the following 5 years, they moved accross the land, to the bordertowns. In 1265, our FA visited the embassies of Indian and Iroquios, and gifted them with 2 GPT. This greatly improved our relations with our neighbors! 5 years later, we were informed that Greece has signed a MPP with our allies, Inida.
