I just bought it today and although Im not very far I must say Im quite impressed, my immediate impression was that its the best looking game Ive ever seen by far. The water looks almost real and the effects are spot on. Its got some great mechanics going for it and Im only a little ways in but the telekenises is very usefull and works nicely, and the Big Daddies are a freekin blast to fight. Thus far, I think out of twenty reviews it averages a 98%, I dont think its in the greatest games of all time list, but I do thnk that its definately a very good and hi qualoty game, waht do you guys think of it?

I've only played the demo, but I love the atmosphere and setting. The opening was stunning, and seeing the Big Daddy for the first time was particularly brutal.

I'm probably not going to get this game for a long while, but I'll definitely enjoy it.

I'd buy it but I'm skint. So I'm going to buy it when I get paid on Friday.

Played the demo last week. me and two mates, sitting in my room, playing a demo going 'oooh, aaaah, oooh pretty'.

Can't wait.

After playing through some more I have to say its not quite as good as the reviews would have you beleive, they all make this game out to be some kind of revolutionary stomp or something but its only slightly innovative, the powers are cool but plenty of games have those, the weopons are nothing to special and the upgrades are just an RPG element tacked on, the graphics and setting are astounding, the game is very easy on the eyes, and its a very hi quality game but its just lacking something extraordinary rite now. Dont get me wrong, this game thus far is definately a nine out of ten, but its just not making me go nuts like the reviews say it should, o well.

Well the demo worked fine for me, unitl the end of the laoding screen that coems after your biosphere docks, where it crashed to desktop and everyone was stuck in 800x600 resolution and 4bit graphics. When I installed it it did ask me to upgrade my drivers to the latest nvidia ones, which I did.

EDIT: Rumour has it the copyprotection installs a rootkit. BUT IT'S LIKELY THIS RUMOUR IS FALSE.

EDIT: It crashed at the same place but did not change display settings.

Google websearch, but honestly, even the reviews unanimously agree that this game is absolutely incredible. Valve(the company that made half-life and half-life two) even had to ban tere employees from playing it at there offices becuase they were playing that to much instead of playing Bioshock...its that good. Its an FPS, and it desnt quite follow FPS standard affair thoguh, you wontbe shooting the whole game. But there are eight different weopons, and each except for the camera and wrench have at least three different types of ammunition. You also have these powers that you get throughout the game called "plasmids" which give you abilaties ranging from shooting fire to unleashing a swarm of killer bees. A lt of the games fun comes from expieramenting with the combinations you can make.

For instance, I froze a guy, while frozen I sicked killer bees on him, also while still frozen I put a ind trap in front of hime. The wind trap is placed on the ground, when stepped on, the unlucky feller is flung into the roof really hard. So immediatly upon thawing he tried to run at me, sending him into the roof. While in the air I lit him on fire and on the way down I hist him with a heat seeking RPG. I then used his body(using telenisis) as a meat shield to avoid being shot by turrets.

Granted, thats the most elaborate combination ive come up with but you get the point.

I have a reservation on this game at my local store, as its not out yet in Europe.
For sure it looks awesome and there is a very strong atmosphere. Makes me think of F.E.A.R for the atmosphere mixed with Farcry for the eye-candy (remember when it went out, had to upgrade for this one).

Anyway, I can hardly wait, but I fear my laptop won't be able to handle it properly, although its pretty powerful (6 months old).
Is the demo downloadable from somewhere ? sorry, I'm too lazy to search.

I heard the plot described as exactly the same more or less as the two System Shock gmaes (of which bioshock is sort of the third in spirit if not in name). Although I've never played System Shock.

I've been playing for a week now and it's costing me some sleep, just like all the Civ games ;)

I think this game is great. Unlike most shooters, Bioshock doesn't get boring halfway. There are plenty of stuff you can do, of which taking photos is my favourite, and plenty of ways to develop your character. Sure, the game feels very scripted, but that's part of what makes it interesting. Big Daddy fights are really that great, and the way you fight them evolve as more weapons and powers are given to you. I also like U-Invent very much.

The storyline is fine. It may be a bit cheesy and to some extent predictable, but how it unfolds is great. The excellent voice acting certainly helps a lot. I've seen both endings (yes, I fear no spoilers), and while I was like "Wth" at first, seeing how the story culminates into them is makes them feel better. Overall, I think this is more fun than Resident Evil, the closest thing to it that I've played and which I found fun.

Depends on you, I suppose. I think I wouldn't mind replaying the game twice just to try out different ways to complete it. The first time round is like walking in the dark, not sure what your style is. The second time round you should be better able to focus on getting what you really need and play very effectively. Third time round... Maybe I'll try to win only using the wrench  The character development is really what gives it replay value.

Sep 05, 2007, 12:57 PM
You'll want to play it twice, one killing all the little sisters, one saving them all. maybe jumping a difficulty for laugh. After that, with no multiplayer functionality (for the 360, a principle I agree with) it's the type of gamew you'll stumble across in a year and play again cause you can't remember exactly how the story goes. But don't expect to play it over and over like you would Saints Row or Oblivion.

Afer playing through it a few times I think all of the reviewers were hi when they reviewed it, its a great game, but a 9.5 for this is way to hi, mayby an 8.75. It just didnt do anything revolutionary....but unlike most everything it did what it did do well.

Sick youknowwhats.

They're going to have trouble hosting that. Even if they have their own domain, I bet Unisoft and a LOT of groups nad probably the police too are going to go after that with torches and sharp n pointy pitchforks.

Anyways, mods won' be out until next year (like anything major anyways), I'll buy it next year then.

EDIT: The author (of this vid) likes the game still, even if most of the vid is comparing to to System Shock 2. Waring: Very fast speaking narrator.

Well, if they try to charge people for that content now, (even without this pre-knowledge) they are going to get a nice big fat backlash. Having to pay for something already in the game is BULL. Even if they aren't going to charge for it, they should still release an editor, a lto of games have survived many years BECAUSE of the editor.

Well, PrinceScamp, it is a known fact that a lot of 360 DLC is actually on the disk in the first place and all you are downloading is the key to unlock it. MS even makes this easy for the developers to do.

Without deviating TOO much from the thread of Bioshock you know what I think Xbox Live really needs? mods made by fans. I mean you can do it for the PC and I think simply looking at Civ shows how well it can be done. The idea of having 'official' mods all the time just seem to curtail any potential development you can have with games you've completed and just forgotten about.

I'm going back through the game now on Hard and saving all the little sisters just to see the new ending. After that there better be some brilliant DLC otherwise BIoshock's getting put on the shelf and forgotten about for a few months.

But ot take my word for it if a games not at least fifty hours long I wont bother paying fifty dollars for it. I think of it this way, If I pay a dollar for something I should at least get an hour of at least low quality entertainment for it. For example, It takes me about an hours to drink a 16oz bottle of Doctor Pepper, So therefor the cost of a 16 oz doctor peper where I live works out for me because I pay a dollar for an hour. Of course, there are exceptions....such as condoms....which BTW are freeking extortion.

I must admit, the playability (is that a word) dies the death once you've done it a second time (or a first time in your case Cleric :) )

I've done the two different 'ethical' choices given (lets be honest, should have been more). This game had potential, not saying it was a brilliant game, it was but there just wasn't enough to make me pick it up alot and go 'oh aye, this rocks'
