View Full Version : Akula Submarine

This is a Akula submarine.

~ 550 faces, Damage Tex, Button and Animation are included.
fScale ~ 0.50. There is a shader (FX) and a non-shader (normal) NIF includedversion of the file, both having team color.
I would also suggest to change the <fRangedDeathTime> to 0.6 or 0.75 since my death animation is a bit longer, but this is not necessary.
There is a alternative - darker - texture included, wich looks more like a russian boat.

I made her to fill the role of a modern Hunter/Killer Sub in BTS, while puting the BTS stock sub in the Missile-Carrier role, which it obviously was made for. But of course you may use it as you like.

(It was kind of strange in BTS: The new stock model is obviosly a missile carrier - maybe Ohio or Delta - but in the game it is a attack boat, while the old WW2 sub is carrying misslies  )

Ah, this texture resembles the Firaxis texture much better then the other Akula model. :goodjob:

It was the motivation :D. Actually i was planing to retexture Snafusmith's Akula. But i run into several problems with his unwrap, then with the damage textures and then with the animations, and ended up doing the thing from scratch

Thanks all :D

I added a Shader version of the Nif. You can use the normal file for <NIF> and the _FX one for the <SHADERNIF> as done with the stock units.

Or you choose the version you like more and use it with <NIF> and <SHADERNIF>.

The file is now updated in the library.
Sorry if you already added it to your mod and have to re-do it now - i just figured out how to do shader.

The unit looks nice in game. But may problem is, whenever I try to produce the Attack Sub by clicking the button in the city window, the program crashes. Can anyone figure out what the problem is?
Here is my ArtDefine:

<Button>,modules/units/Akula_Sub/Akula_Button.dds</Button>

the comma in front of modules is causeing the crash. change it to this:

<Button>modules/units/Akula_Sub/Akula_Button.dds</Button>

Thanks, snafusmith. It works.

I am just curious, why does original ArtDefine have the comma? Is there a special reason for that?

It's becose it refers to ButtonAtlasPack - the first one is to the seperate file, the second one to atlas. To differ it - firaxis uses coma.
When you link just to seperate button you need to make it without coma

GREAT!!! your unite is splendid. You have a lot of talent. If one day you have the time can make CVN General of Gaul for me please.
It would be genial.
thank man.

The new British carrier class in the works would be more distinct. ;)

The De Gaulle looks closer to the Civ4 stock carrier - perhaps a brighter/cleaner retexture would do. The British one looks more interesting to me too - the superstructure with the two islands makes it very distinct.

Unfortunately i am short on time for now and already have some requests (of which the Asian Galleon is on the top of the stack, but i did not make too much progress on it yet :( )

Any chance that you're working on a Seawolf/Virginia class submarine Refar?

Unfortunately not anytime soon - i will add it to my list, however the list is already too long to be handeled i a near future. To make things worse i was not very productive over the past few weeks due to RL. Sorry for now.

NICE model! You plan on doing any more Russian subs?
Anyone else love it when official names and code-names get confused? Like how the sub that NATO calls "Typhoon" is called "Akula" by the Russians, which is a completely different sub than this one?

And I have to agree with GeoModder, the new British carriers are much sexier. :)

I hate those NATO guys, who feel they need to rename all our stuff :D

However in this case those the soviets them self are to blame, i think. The huge missile carrier sub developed as Project 941 Akula was widely known as Typhoon in russian as well.

The Akula here is the "other" Akula - the Hunter sub. The first Boat of the Project 971 series actually was Called "Akula" - i think its where the NAto guys got the designation from. I think by now the Nato designation Akula is actually applied to more than one Class of Soviet Subs, from which the one with this 'Blimp'-like Sonar thing - which was the first run of them - is the most recognizeable.

To be fair, you guys weren't all that forthcoming with the names.

NATO: So, what do you call this?
Russia: It's a secret.
NATO: Oh, bollocks. Looks like we'll have to call it 'Tim.'

Of course, your four different methods of designation (design name, industry name, GRAU index and service designation) just helped to confuse the matter. :p
