View Full Version : Real life questions to get to know each other
Izipo Sep 01, 2007, 12:37 PM Hello everyone
Since this summer I've been raptured by the forum games and I just looove it.
The crowd here is amazing and very diverse.
Since I'm quite new, I miss a lot of things in character interactions, because I don't know you at all.
In roleplay, the character you play is very important, but underneath you can always find some version of the real you.
I really miss the real RPG sessions I used to engage in when I was young and the kind of games we play here reminds me of that glorious period. In those sessions we had the advantage of knowing each other very well, which made for very fun games (with a lot less backstabbing though).
Public profiles are an useful start, so long as the users put the time to provide some info, which is rarely the case. So this is why I started this thread, it's a kind of 'who are you and what do you do ?' specifically aimed at the players engaged in complex forum games like Mafia, NotW, SnF, RotMK and others.
On a side note, so long as we're here, it could be useful to provide some info on your location or time zone, to get a feel for when people are around.
Enough with the long post, here I go :
I'm a 34 years old divorced guy with two daughters. I live in France, near Paris and work there.
I began RPG when I was 10 with D&D while I was on a trip to England. At the same time discovered Tolkien and video games (C64), got hooked up ever since. My influences now range from Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Douglas Adams, Robert Rankin to Ann Rice, to name a few.
I was of the offense wizard type at first when gradually I chose to play less flamboyant characters that act more behind the group as support (cleric, mage), or some kind of sniper/ranger/loner/elf (how fitting dissensions is...).
I have access to the Internet at work (and use it excessively),but usually I wait until I get home to really engage in play. A typical session would be between 07:00 PM and midnight. Time being,of course GMT+1.
I sincerely hope this will spark some interest as I am a curious and friendly type of guy. Nothing is compulsory of course.
See you soon in a game.
Catharsis Sep 01, 2007, 03:05 PM Alrighty, here goes. Not sure how long this thread will withstand the moderators, though, but if any moderators are watching, what we really need is an 'Off-Topic' thread, like wot they 'ave in the Fall from Heaven subforum.
I'm British, living in Bedfordshire (home of Paula Radcliffe and NIRAH); if you want my age, check my profile; I have never had any interest in RPGs or the like but joined CFC to play mafia games - initially, when NotW first came to Forum Games and I was lurking, I was annoyed by all these new people claiming to have a game that was better than mafia, and by one user 'Unser Giftzwerg' in particular, whom I had down as an anti-newbieist.
My position on the great Poland-In-Civ debate is currently Pro.
Timezone: GMT.
thomas.berubeg Sep 01, 2007, 03:33 PM I'm A sixteen year old, living in Ringwood, NJ... There's not to much more than that.
Nerdking Sep 01, 2007, 07:28 PM 18 and a freshman at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana (you probably could have guessed that)
We're going out for ice cream now, so maybe I'll say something else later.
LightFang Sep 01, 2007, 08:02 PM I'm sixteen, currently embarking in the hell that is the International Baccalaureate Programme.
I'm on the West Coast of the United States of America and therefore, by extension, on Pacific Time.
I get inspiration...from anything. Really. I like to think that I make up diverse characters. Or something.
I joined CFC Forum Games after I was bored enough to wander around the forum. I joined to do NESing specifically.
BananaLee Sep 01, 2007, 09:51 PM I was born in Malaysia but I live in New Zealand and am pretty much Kiwinised. Doing a conjoint arts and engineering degree.
Time is GMT+12 (+13 when daylights set in) so we're the first to see the sun rise every day. :D
dcbandicoot Sep 01, 2007, 09:54 PM Just turned eighteen.. sophomore, Macalester College (Minnesota).
taillesskangaru Sep 02, 2007, 01:53 AM Oh what the hell...
I'm actually 15, turning 14. I live in Melbourne, Australia, a.k.a. Annoying Weather Capital of the World. My weird username is the result of registering on CFC under the influence of magic spells casted upon me by the Evil Guardian of the Spam of the East, so I wasn't thinking clearly. I join CFC to engage in the Great Neverending Which-Civ-To-Put-In-The-Game Debate (which of course later spawn much-loathed forum discussion such as the Great Hitler Spam War, the Great Poland Debate, the Four Romes Debate Extravagenza, among others). I discovered Forum Games due to the Mods deciding to remove DYOS from OT and putting it in an obscure location where few OTers will ever venture into. I draw inspiration from everything. I'm a member of arguably the forum of the craziest bunch of Civvers on the planet, www.civunited.net, a member of Civilitas' Progressive Libertarian Party and leader of such online nations as Durkar (CyberNations - member of ARM) and the Tigrisian Empire (AstroEmpires - member of the United Federation of Civvers.). In real life I'm a depressed, nerdy, weak kid who doesn't talk much and when I talk I stammer and I usually end up insulting someone. So yeah, nice to meet you guys...
The13thRonin Sep 02, 2007, 02:33 AM 17, Australian. Everyone here thinks I'm a bit cold and a bit loud but that's just my poker face. I'm a pretty quiet guy if you ever saw me. A games a game.
Nerdking Sep 02, 2007, 02:44 AM 18 and a freshman at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana (you probably could have guessed that)
We're going out for ice cream now, so maybe I'll say something else later.
My night consisted of watching Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life," taking humorous photographs at 3 A.M, planning a trip to Canada which will never happen, and then convincing 4 people to sleep on the floor.
That's a standard day for me (and I go to bed now at about 4 a.m.)
Izipo Sep 02, 2007, 04:35 PM Glad to have some feedback here.
The age group is firming up and similar to what I thought it would be.
A little surprised at some of the answers, which just shows how mature and intelligent the crowd is here.
I have one big surprise though : I'm the oldest of the players around here ?
Now, that is something I was not expecting. A while back, the same poll was done in the Civ IV strategy and tips forum and the leading age group oscillated between mine and the one just below (i.e 25-34).
Anyway, it's good to see we share the same hobbies and cultural influences (Monty Python rules !).
See you.
Catharsis Sep 02, 2007, 04:40 PM We used to have a couple of creaky old men (;)) but no-one's seen cvlowe or marauder68 in ages.
EDIT: Also Conroe, I think.
Chandrasekhar Sep 02, 2007, 05:59 PM Let's see, where to start? I'm 17 years old, and I live near Seattle, Washington, GMT -7. I'm currently taking courses at a nearby community college, and I plan to go to the University of Washington next year. I've scarcely been more than 50 miles from the place of my birth, though I do plan to take a trip to Europe sometime soon.
I originally came to CFC about a year ago to chat about Civilization IV (the only game in the series that I've played), after which I lurked for awhile. Eventually I came across all those awesome mods for CIV, and I found Fall from Heaven. I quickly became one of the more active members of the community there, but when Kael hosted the original Night of the Werewolves game, real life concerns kept me from joining. Bad Player's Night of the Werewolves II didn't interest me much either, but then Unser Giftzwerg sent me an invite to his Night of the Werewolves III. He and I were on friendly terms, so I joined.
As a small child, I wanted to grow up to be a video game designer. I always had an interest in designing games. I would draw out elaborate pictures and diagrams on notebook or graph paper, and it didn't bother me much that they never got played. When some friends introduced me to D&D, I enjoyed being DM and designing big scenarios and storylines for them to play through. Eventually they all moved away or the friendships cooled off, and my focus turned from games to science. I don't really regret that, though it is nice to take gaming back up as a hobby.
After Night of the Werewolves III got done, I became a regular player, and I made some hosting reservations of my own. I've never considered myself an artist, but the feeling I get when designing my games must be similar to those of a painter making some prized work of art. Much of my summer has been spent thinking about how best to improve upon my old designs when making S&F2 and some future game concepts.
Unlike Ronin, my personality here on the forums is pretty similar to the one I have in real life. I consider myself to be a charismatic and logical individual, and while I have few close friends, people that meet me nowadays definitely wouldn't call me "shy." Politically, I'm a libertarian in the American sense of the word, but I try to keep my opinions about that sort of thing out of the forum games section. If you watch closely you might see me posting in the Off-Topic forums, but I haven't been doing that as often lately.
My other hobbies are reading and video games, though that second one has been suffering recently because of my involvement in the forum games section. I find the games I play here to be as fun as the ones on my Xbox360, and these ones don't cost $60. ;)
subzerox2 Sep 02, 2007, 06:47 PM I'm 22, living in Maryland. I was hooked on RPGs ever since I experienced the greatness that is FF7. Used to play MUDs(text-based MMORPGS) quite a bit when I was younger but eventually had to stop due to how time-consuming they ended up being. Civilization 2 was easily one of my favorite games when it came out, playing it was one of the few times I'd find myself completely enraptured by a video game, not to mention that it had such high replay value. So when Civ3 and Civ4 came out I had to play them as well. Found this forum after looking for Civ4 mods, leading me to FfH and that first NoTW thread. It was a fun read along with the second one. I never realized there was a forum games section until seeing the Semi-OT thread listing the subsequent NoTWs which made me check that part of the forum. It looked interesting and I figured I'd try out some of these forum games.
Graduated last year with a biology degree from the University of Maryland. Been a bit aimless since then, but now I'm retaking a few classes at a community college and looking into becoming a drug dealer (pharmacist :D).
Nerdking Sep 03, 2007, 01:03 AM My night consisted of watching Monty Python's "The Meaning of Life," taking humorous photographs at 3 A.M, planning a trip to Canada which will never happen, and then convincing 4 people to sleep on the floor.
That's a standard day for me (and I go to bed now at about 4 a.m.)
I'm a goof ball. I don't know why I keep quoting myself.
And the trip to Canada really happened. I didn't go, but 4 people at 4 a.m. loaded up a car, drove to Canada, bought some amazing doughnuts, and then drove back, arriving about 8 p.m. tonight. Next time we're going to Chicago.
Heretic_Cata Sep 03, 2007, 02:49 AM 20, Romanian GMT+2. I'm a 3rd year student at the University - i'm studying informatics or smthing like that and i'm a computer noob. My real life personality is like the one on the forum: random, strange, sometimes emo, sometimes relentless, anit-social yet i like being around people. Some or all of those traits being caused by a major depression which ended a few years ago.
A year ago i was posting in most of the forum game threads; now i'm here just to play the Name that Tune quizes - so you probably didn't see me much.
Love Sep 03, 2007, 09:08 AM I'm 13 living in stockholm, the home of the polar bears, i love the football team hammarby.
If you have missed that and your pc is over 3000 you can go to hell.
puglover Sep 05, 2007, 10:32 AM 16-year old from Kansas City. :D
Leeksoup Sep 05, 2007, 04:34 PM 16 years old, living just north of Scaramento, CA. GMT -8. I joined the Forum Games section because I was tired of all the high-level quibbling in the Strategy forums (really, I don't care how to min/max a Specialist economy, I hardly know how to win on Noble) so I checked this place out to kill some time. Then I got hooked on the Third International Game, and here I am.
I'm homschooled for the past two years, I graduate high school in January. I'm very religiously active (I try to put 2-3 hours per day into doing something religious), although I try not to shove that fact down other people's throats. Oh, and I got the name 'Leeksoup' because one day me and my friends decided we all needed nicknames (I think we were all like 10) and I chose 'soup'. I like soup, shut up. They told me that wasn't specific enough, I saw a can of leek soup on the counter, and it's been my moniker online ever since.
Niklas Sep 05, 2007, 05:04 PM I'm a 28-yo Swede, if you want my exact location then throw my coordinates (seen under my avatar) into Google Earth. Just don't use them for ICBM target practice please. I'm married with two dogs, which I tend to annoy my MSN contacts with when I have to break conversations in favor of walking them.
I have a M.Sc. in Computer Science and Engineering, and I'm currently persuing Ph.D. studies in Computer Science, specifically in programming language design. Ask me about my avatar, title and the first piece of my signature if you're interested. I'm still not quite sure what I'm going to be when I "grow up", but The13thRonin thinks my future lies in Computer Games. I wouldn't mind it if he was right. ;)
I'm a long time roleplayer, played D&D before they started numbering the editions. I read a lot, fantasy mostly but other fiction as well. And I love to play games of all kinds - games fascinate me from an almost scientific viewpoint, and I get a great kick playing a well-designed game, be it a computer game or a roleplaying game or a board game or a forum game.
I came to CFC when looking for some Civ3 info, got hooked on the Game of the Month competition and for a very long time I didn't go outside that forum. I'm a hardcore Civ3 gamer still (and quite the opposite of Leeksoup I probably know exactly how to work the game to min/max it correctly - I normally win on deity). At some point I started venturing out, read a few stories, found a link that put me in the dreaded NESing forum - and I was hooked immediately. NESing can be incredibly fun, you should go try it! (No, not you Catharsis, we don't want you.) Then it took me even longer to find this subforum. I had been here at some point to see what was offered, but mafia games certainly wasn't anything for me. It wasn't until The13thRonin advertised his Ascension game in his sig, and posted in the NESing forum, that I came back here. Got stuck on SnF, absolutely *loved* it, same thing for ethergar's NotW masterpiece. I'm thoroughly hooked now. :D
Leeksoup Sep 05, 2007, 05:27 PM I'd like to clarify, just so you all don't think me a drooling idiot, that I have since moved up from barely winning on Noble to barely losing on Monarch. Woo!
Catharsis Sep 05, 2007, 05:33 PM Well, I can't win on Chieftain.
*drools*
Izipo Sep 05, 2007, 05:39 PM Aaaw, come on, anybody can win on chieftain.
Thanks for the posts guys, this is exactly what I had in mind.
flamingzaroc121 Sep 05, 2007, 05:46 PM i am a 12 year old boy that lives in a suburb outside of San Fransisco. GMT -8 i came to this forum for discussion about Civ4 but ended up spending more time here
mythmonster2 Sep 05, 2007, 05:56 PM 12, Houston. Came to CFC looking for Civ 3 cheats and originally, I was by all means a troll, coming from my bad experiences with the Runescape forum. (For exampe, search "Turks?" and my post is like the fifth) Soon I realized I could get banned so I first left for a year then I came back at about age 11, much more mature, and I straightened up. I'm a pretty casual poster, because I've been here for a while but only have 500 posts.
Splime Sep 05, 2007, 08:36 PM 16, CT, USA. Born in Portsmouth, UK, and lived thee for 5 years.
I've played Civ3 and Civ4, but not in a while, as I've played other games. Also, I'm learning to drive now, and unlike my friends, I'm learning on a manual... muahaha.
Love Sep 06, 2007, 08:08 AM I cant win on noble
Hitti-Litti Sep 06, 2007, 10:52 AM 13, Valkeala, Kymenlaakso, Finland. Boy. Came here looking for mods to Civ4 but currently more active in OT and here. Mom, dad, big and little brother. Two cats.
Enough?

Cool. I was homeschooled too, and I'm graduating next year as well.

I can :woohoo!
especially with the help of my friend the worldbuilder...
I'm just kidding... i can win on warlords:p
germanicus12 Sep 06, 2007, 02:53 PM 20, born in Katy Texas, lived there for 15 years. I currently live in Logan Utah with my wife while she attends Utah State University.
I joined CFC mainly for NESing, but I have branched out to other sections as well.

How about you send some orders to me then!! They were due two weeks ago... I might have to make some examples with president Ryan Zabriskie... :mischief:

I'm 17 years old living in Lebanon, Ohio (the suburb of America). I'm a Senior at my high school. I'm in the marching band at my school in which I play the mellophone, if anyone needs clarifying that's a marching french horn. I've not been into RPG games much and got hooked to civ about five years ago and joined two years ago and lurked around FFH for a year and then found this place with my first being NOTWs and then I broaden my selection. Not much more to me.
BananaLee Sep 06, 2007, 10:23 PM 1and unlike my friends, I'm learning on a manual... muahaha.
In Soviet Russia, manual learns YOU!
It's quite fascinating though since in Malaysia it is required by law to know how to drive a manual - or don't drive at all.
Niklas Sep 07, 2007, 02:06 AM In Sweden, if you learn on an automatic you may only drive automatic. If you learn on a manual you can drive anything. And it's mostly unheard of to learn on automatic.
Grisu Sep 07, 2007, 02:47 AM time to add to the 30+ age-group :)
30yo Swiss guy here. I'm a BSc in Computer Science, working as a J2EE software developer for the state :scared:
I don't really play much Civ anymore, but I'll start a game up every now and then. ATM I'm spending my gameing time mostly on EU3....
I don't really spend much time in the Games Section other than playing the name that tune quizzes. Most of my time in CFC I spend in the dreaded OT Forums :)
Perfection Sep 07, 2007, 08:37 AM I have two arms and a nose.
Hitti-Litti Sep 07, 2007, 09:40 AM ^^
Me too, we should meet some day!
Raisin Bran Sep 07, 2007, 09:55 AM time to add to the 30+ age-group :)

I'm 29 Living in montreal Quebec Canada. diploma in multimedia integration working as a refrigeration compressor salesman.
Mostly all my time spent on CFC is in forum Games. I came here first to get hints and tips for cIV ended up in OT stayed there a while until I got tired of the whole OT so I kept only the threads I post in. I go lurk in OT once in a while.
Perfection Sep 07, 2007, 11:11 PM I have vomited on more than one occasion during my life.
jeps Sep 08, 2007, 12:17 PM If you want my age, don't check my profile. You'll find the age of the PLACE (not person) I care most about (also since it wouldn't let me put 1867 ;) ). I came to CFC for scenarios and maps for C3C, read some stories, joined INES I, and have been Hooked on NESing ever since. From there I expanded to other parts of the site.
I am also, if you hadn't guessed, a Jewish Canadian living in Toronto, NOT Glendale Arizone. My life is sports. That would explain the Glendale, as on the 8th that is where the Super Bowl shall be held between Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos. Or Denver Broncos and New Orleans Saints. Or Dallas Cowboys and Indianapolis Colts. Or Indy vs NO. That is all. I also play various sports, spending about 10-20 (It used to be 20-30) hours a week training, working out in the gym, and doing other unrelated sports that help fitness.
Catharsis Sep 09, 2007, 02:22 PM You mean you're not actually 59 years old? Shame... I always envisaged you as that elderly Jewish bloke off The Simpsons. :p
Brisingamen Sep 09, 2007, 02:58 PM yay for whatever thirteen year olds out there. I'm obsessed with French Horn - and march with it :p. That's my life in a nutshell, except that most people in my school consider me a nerd. oh well.
I always imagined Catharsis as this twenty+ year old. You're almost my age, or actually thomas's age:eek:
EDIT: hah merciary...though marching with a french horn isn't that easy :D
Hitti-Litti Sep 09, 2007, 03:26 PM Harr, Catharsis is too old for us! :D
Mirc Sep 09, 2007, 03:38 PM I am male, 15 years old (16 in a short time), living in Bucharest (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bucharest), Romania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Romania) (which is also the 6th largest city in the EU).
I am a guitar player, often traveling to other parts of my country and abroad too much to have any Internet access for long periods of time :( (in June, July and the first half of August I've been at home a grand total of 4 days). I need a laptop. :p
There are many other things I could say about me, but I know too many people will not believe me or believe that I'm full of myself (which I'm not :p) if I say them, so I'll shut up now.
I'm surprised by how young people here are, I'm usually clearly the youngest of the group I'm in (as I skipped a year in school and I was born very late in the year, my classmates are all 17-18, with the exception of one who is 20 :p and who is a good friend of mine actually).
merciary Sep 09, 2007, 05:24 PM Brisingamen, seeing as you march does your school compete at BOA?
And at your comment I imagine marching a normal french horn would be difficult, if we had an actual one in the show it would be a feature. What we use are horrible, some over 20 years.

I'm not sure, since I'm only a freshman.
But we got new double horns two years ago so they're dent free. We have two Yamahas ( ), a Holton (:) ), and one I forget, so they're all pretty good, except I hate the Yamahas. We have five marching horns  which is a LOT.
And they're %$!@ heavy... - my poor little finger will never be the same :(
merciary Sep 09, 2007, 08:18 PM *ignore Post*
merciary Sep 09, 2007, 08:19 PM Yeah for our count:
Normal horns: 5-7? most Conns some Blessings
Marching horns: 3 all Blessings
actual Melophones: 2 Blessings (older than dirt)
I hate Blessings, unfortunately that's what we have. Yeah your fingers always hurt at first but you get use to it. Wait until the colder months then your fingers freeze in the shape your holding the horn. :) (not joking, it took me about 10 minutes to get my fingers moving again after practice)
Perfection Sep 09, 2007, 09:10 PM Most of the time I breathe through my nostrils.
downtown Sep 09, 2007, 09:21 PM I'm 20, and go to Ohio State, studying Political Science.
To make money, I'm a drum teacher (both private lessons, and I give marching percussion clinics to a few high schools), a blues musician, and a tutor for disadvantaged youth.

Er, probably not.)

Jono Sep 10, 2007, 03:53 PM My name's Jono (short for Jonathan). I live in Ramat HaSharon, which borders Herzliya in the north. I don't remember why I originally came to CFC, but I remember NotW2 was what drew me to the Forum Games.
EDIT: And I turn 17 in January.
thomas.berubeg Sep 10, 2007, 03:54 PM Yeah, the god old days of 15 player NOTW games... those were the days,

From forums games I like those childesh one (ABC sentence and other) and My Tune Quiz. I used to enjoy Lyrics Quiz, but It's dead now . I'm a musicoholic.
cthom Sep 16, 2007, 08:59 AM omg, i'm the oldest yet. my name is Craig and i've been gaming since ad&d 1st edition, civ 1, and my old love - elite on the c64. my boss has forbidden me to eat chocolate at work. i recently bought chronocles and bts.
WerBackIII Sep 16, 2007, 12:07 PM How old are you?
cthom Sep 16, 2007, 02:14 PM How old are you?
47 (and ten chars) :(
WerBackIII Sep 17, 2007, 08:36 AM Yaiks!
I also enjoyed Colin McRae's Dirt... but it's not fun anymore... RIP, Dude (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=243696):( !
Izipo Sep 17, 2007, 04:13 PM 47 (and ten chars) :(
Hi, cthom!
It's nice to see I'm not the only :old: around here.;)
WerBackIII Sep 18, 2007, 06:56 AM Maybe Padme will join this :old: party!
Rambuchan Sep 18, 2007, 10:18 AM I wouldn't normally do this, but I've noticed Izipo around and you seem like a nice guy. So this is for you:
My name is Jules and I'm 29. I was born in England, but grew up in Zambia till age 7. I originally come from Goa, in India, and my family has had a long affinity and relationship with Africa. Aside from a short stint living and going to school in the USA, I've lived in England ever since leaving Zambia. I currently live in London with my girlfriend, who just recently became my fiance! We're getting married next year in Belgrade, Serbia, where she is from.
I have a degree in Communications, and specialised in Advertising (semiotics) and Fine Art Photography (theory more than practice). After copy writing at some ad agencies, I soon realised that I was working with the devil in a demonic world and quit. So I went into the film industry and, after writing screenplays and radio plays to get poor, started producing and production managing all manner of audio-visual products; TV commercials (the devil is everywhere), music videos, short films, longer films, documentaries, corporate videos (there he is again), charity videos etc etc. In the course of doing this I gained many other qualifications related to this work.
However, as I started looking further into the future, I soon got fed up with the freelance nature of such work, as you simply can't plan your life, nor know where the next penny is coming from. So I packed up after 4 years of really good fun (maybe too much!) and a bucket loads of cool experiences. This time was also peppered with freelance journalism work, DJing (I'm mad about music), arts pundit stuff on radio and photography here and there too.
For the last 4 years I've been working as a broker in the international corporate finance world. It seriously bores the crap out of me, which is how I came to post on CFC, but it pays the bills and you can affect some good in the world through this job. I'm not really turned on by it though and I may well cave in to my old film friends one day to go back and join the media circus.
I was a keen sportsman as a kid, so I never played any computer games seriously and never really touched RPGs or D&D. I did however play Civ as a sole exception, infrequently, but in epic sessions, and have played all the versions of it right from Civ I. Nowadays, I still play it a bit, but there are new matters to take me away from that and CFC.
Rheinmetall Sep 18, 2007, 02:37 PM To everyone who introduced themselves here: Nice to meet you. :hatsoff:
Well I'm 28 as you can see from my profile. Currently occupying the vast forested area between russia and sweden [CET / GMT+2]. Unlike most computer/tech/game people here, I make my living by melting metal alloys with electric current. It's not the most glorious work, but it keeps me fed.
I don't even remember why I did join CFC since it's been quite a while. I was absent for some time, but when I returned, some unknown power led me to the forum games and I've been here ever since. I try to make my appearance here daily after a hard workday. I guess it's my way to escape the reality.
I hope to never grow too old to play games.
cthom Sep 20, 2007, 08:01 AM I hope to never grow too old to play games.
my dad is 80 and recently bought a plasma tv to go with his playstation. you are truly never too old. :)
WerBackIII Sep 27, 2007, 03:37 AM Yay! And I thought that My granma' is a rare-spawn person!
Izipo Jan 15, 2008, 03:35 AM Okay, time for some necromancy.
I hope it will not be frowned upon, but seeing as there's some new guys and NotW XV is about to start...
So, who are you guys ?
Swedishguy Jan 15, 2008, 08:36 AM Name's Erik Henriksson. I live in Eskilstuna, the greatest city on Earth. I'm fifteen. I hate dogs, especially pugs. I want Poland in Civ4!
OK, here's a slight update...
I'm not fifteen anymore, I'm in fact sixteen.
Nerdking Jan 15, 2008, 02:39 PM 18 and a freshman at Ball State University, Muncie, Indiana (you probably could have guessed that)
We're going out for ice cream now, so maybe I'll say something else later.I'm 19 now.
Somebody else say something.
Hitti-Litti Jan 15, 2008, 02:56 PM Well, I'm pretty much the same I was some time ago, with the exception of now being 14 years old!
Chandrasekhar Jan 15, 2008, 04:23 PM I have reached the ripe old age of 18, which has all sorts of benefits. And I too am curious to hear from the new guys. :mischief:
Leeksoup Jan 15, 2008, 04:28 PM I will soon reach level- er, age 17. In three days, actually. And four days after that, I graduate high school.
Oh, and I got a new car. My old '91 Taurus had a terrible transmission- in four months it had to be replaced three times. Totally replaced, no chance of salvaging. I have no idea what was wrong with it, so I got a new one. An '01 Mazda Protege, actually. :D
thomas.berubeg Jan 15, 2008, 04:35 PM Yup, still sixteen over here.
However, i would erally like your car, leeksoup? mind shipping it over to NJ?
Izipo Jan 15, 2008, 04:56 PM Oh my, it's even worse, I'm about to join Bartleby's age group...
Still, life goes on, the girls are growing up nicely. The older one turned 7 last month and the little one is going on 5.
The days are long, but the years pass like the wind.
The last Pratchett was good.
So, what about all the new faces. Come on, noone's gonna bite ;)
mythmonster2 Jan 15, 2008, 05:02 PM I am now 13!
Backwards Logic Jan 15, 2008, 05:27 PM Well, I suppose I'll introduce myself. I am originally from New Jersey, but currently reside in Florida for school. I go to Full Sail University; you've probably never heard about it, but it is huge in the entertainment industry. I am majoring in Recording Arts, which to make clearer to everyone allows me to work in studios and record artists, or do sound for films, or sound design for video games, or other things as well. My school schedule is not a common one: I can have classes from anytime during the week except on Sundays (yes, it's possible for me to have classes at 3 am on a Saturday...). So when I'm not recording music or hanging out with friends, I usually can be found on here or xbox live playing Halo 3 (LOVE that game). I enjoy playing board games like Risk and Stratego, so that's why you'll find me in the RFMK series games or any Diplomacy games. Hanging out here playing them is a nice distraction from some of the stupid work I have to do, but all in all I'm having a good time with everything down here.
tuxedohamm Jan 15, 2008, 09:29 PM I have been posting since spring/summer '07, and registered to civfanatics since I think Pre-Civ3.
I am 25, soon to be 26. Originally from North Carolina, I now live in SE Georgia, US. -5GMT though its mostly -4GMT most of the year it seems.
I was surprised to discover that many of you are >20 years old, since most of you speak with a level of intelligence I would only expect from a small group of friends I had in high school.
I now work fulltime and have gone back to college parttime to MAYBE finally get a degree.
germanicus12 Jan 15, 2008, 11:22 PM I am now 21, and drive full time for a long haul trucking company, which limits my time on the forums due to Wi-Fi hotspots.
zxcvbnm Jan 16, 2008, 06:50 AM I'm a Grigori wizard of Amurite roots, living in the forests of Illians northeast of the rest of most things, between latitudes N60 and N70.
About my age, I'm way past adept, and almost learned enough to be considered an archmage.
Played games since the indie game golden age of early 1990's, began civ with #3, beat #4 with noble
And those transportation methods:
I'm going to get a forty years old iron golem to take me to places, Fiat 600 from the 60's that is.
Warnings:
Pastafarian
Slightly insane (not :crazyeye: crazy but Perpentach-style instead, beware!)
Refuses to be clay of nature, but rather a sculptor of it.
Stuck in Pi Jan 16, 2008, 06:05 PM 3.14159265358979323846264338327950288419716939
Anyway, I'm 14, know the first 50 digits of Pi, enjoy playing Civ 4 (Noble!!), Medieval 2: Total War, Halo 3 (if only i had an Xbox 360:( ). Live on East Coast of America, I think its GMT-5?
Enjoy Roleplaying and stratagy.
That's me.
Chandrasekhar Jan 16, 2008, 06:08 PM So when I'm not recording music or hanging out with friends, I usually can be found on here or xbox live playing Halo 3 (LOVE that game).
Hey, that gives me an idea. :D Though I've not yet got myself Xbox live, perhaps those of us with gamertags could share them here.
Ekolite Jan 17, 2008, 01:30 PM Hi everyone.
My name is Ollie, I'm 16 years old, I live in the Uk. My mum would flip if she knew I even gave out my name on the 'net so this is gonna be it for now lol.
I don't play civ very often anymore but when I do I only ever play Kael's awesome Fall from Heaven mod. I also occasionally play medieval 2 total war and Oblivion, but again not at all often. I come to this site for the forum games and occasionally NES'es when someone runs one I understand :p.
I love role-playing although I've never got into anything like Dungeons and Dragons or w/e its called :p. My favourite forum game atm is Diplomacy (all thanks to Izipo for introducing me to it. (blame him :p)) Right now I'm in Dip3, Erebus 2, NOTW XV, and NESLife which is apparently still going and I fully intend on bumping it untill Daft updates ;).
Backwards logic and Chile in Dip3, you guys probably see me as a complete bastard. But then you were stealing land rightfully mine.
Got to go now but I might add to this later on...
thomas.berubeg Jan 17, 2008, 02:13 PM Kol.7 try joining RFMK.
merciary Jan 17, 2008, 02:23 PM If you do avoid the Middle East for right now, if you don't I might end up killing you. :p
Ekolite Jan 17, 2008, 02:40 PM Are there any spaces? I've been lurking in that game for quite a while. I suppose I could sign up as a reserve?
thomas.berubeg Jan 17, 2008, 02:53 PM I think the NPCs are open to sign up, though not espanola. okay?
Leeksoup Jan 17, 2008, 03:37 PM We'd love to have you! Thomas, it's not that I want to keep Espanola an NPC, it's that I don't wont you merging with them. :P . Or, you might consider starting a new nation in a 'colonial' zone- right now only, like, Iceland would work, but another couple turns and I'm sure someone else will find something.
Consider being Sweden?
[/derail]
thomas.berubeg Jan 17, 2008, 03:40 PM Oh, i know espanola's open, i just don't want anybody to take it. :)
Ekolite Jan 18, 2008, 12:54 AM Cool. I think I'll wait a couple of turns then. Expect me to be a bit of a noob when I join though but d/w Im a quick learner ;)
Is there a map or something I cn have a look at? Some updates seem to have them and others not?
Leeksoup Jan 18, 2008, 01:18 AM The maps are on the first page, along with all the current stats. Looking back on it, I wish I had used a distinct map per post so we could do an animation map or something for fun, but I just kept overwriting the same savefile so we only have the one map.
jeps Jan 21, 2008, 11:37 PM my age changes a lot, based on the theme. right now im the age of the song Paint it Black. Before that, the age of the Jaguars Franchise, and before that, the age of Israel (though I think I had some in between).
As for IRL, well I have had lots of birthdays (having 35 birthdays every 18 years makes you seem older than you are, and one DOES keep changing.)
GuitarHero Feb 02, 2008, 06:52 PM I'm 24, living alone in Norway for some months. Prefer strategy and RPGs over other games. I drink frequently. My first name's Sirius. I hate children and Freemasons. I want to get involved in DYOS.
A bit random information, but who the hell cares?:satan:

Hate children, but spend time in a forum with many under twenties... brave of you.
Chandrasekhar Feb 02, 2008, 10:23 PM Perhaps he hates children because he spends time in a forum with many under twenties. ;)
GuitarHero Feb 02, 2008, 10:38 PM Perhaps he hates children because he spends time in a forum with many under twenties. ;)
Bingo. :goodjob:
Chandrasekhar Feb 03, 2008, 12:15 AM I didn't know we had so many Freemasons here, though.
zxcvbnm Feb 03, 2008, 08:50 AM What? Why do you think he would hate Freemasons if he didn't spend so much time on forums with many of them?
I don't like children, or more accurately infantile people. If they are mature like many CFC <18 olds then it's fine, but if they act like 5 yrs old despite of being 30 (like in OT forum) then I count them as children too.
Izipo Feb 03, 2008, 10:35 AM Please people, stay on topic. This is just a welcome thread.
Also, GuitarHero, welcome, but I think I might need to mention this somehow : Posts in forum games don't count towards total postcount...
GuitarHero Feb 03, 2008, 10:39 AM Please people, stay on topic. This is just a welcome thread.
Also, GuitarHero, welcome, but I think I might need to mention this somehow : Posts in forum games don't count towards total postcount...
Yeah, I know.
Ekolite Feb 03, 2008, 10:46 AM Tch I wish they did count. I mean I don't see why it really matters TBH. But yeah, staying on topic, welcome.
plarq Oct 15, 2008, 05:36 AM I don't really like introducing myself, see my profile.
Deep Thought Oct 30, 2008, 09:38 AM Due to the risk of Internet, I can't tell you my name, nor any important registration number or email address.
My name is *insert name here* and I've just turned 15 this August.
I'm living with a diagnosis named Asperger Syndrom, which simply means that I have a below-average ability to understand emotions and the big picture. I also have a bad shorttime memory and concentration ability. For instance, I can remember every single frame I've seen on YouTube, but not what I what my next mission was after I thrown the garbage. Another thing that's typical with Aspie's, is that I prefer the library before a party. In fact, I only come to parties, if there is food and snacks.
My surroundings often see me as creative, curious, ambitious and eager to learn. The bad things they find me with, is bad hygiene, too curious and and the lack of ability to stand still (as fast as I don't have something to do, I walk around in my family's apartment and whispering highly to myself, a bit like day dreaming.
Sitting at my computer seems like the only real interest I have.
Hitti-Litti Oct 30, 2008, 10:23 AM Well, at least you're not alone, there a lots of people with Asperger here(not me, though)...
Izipo Oct 30, 2008, 05:39 PM Strange how prevalent that disease is among Civ players.
If you search in OT for the thread 'ask an Asperger', you'll likely find other posters that are in the same situation.
Ekolite Oct 30, 2008, 05:42 PM Sometimes it seems every other member of this forum has aspergers, maybe there's some sort of link?
I am considering posting a picture of me here, for all you NOTW lot lol, although if I decide to do it it will be very temporary .
I'm just scared that someone I know might see me :p.
Izipo Oct 30, 2008, 05:45 PM Go ahead then. And what if someone knows you ?
I'll nudge you : Here's two I used in the 'Members photos' thread
http://img160.imageshack.us/img160/4918/maman039kc7.th.jpg (http://img160.imageshack.us/my.php?image=maman039kc7.jpg)http://img110.imageshack.us/img110/281/fev2008118fs1.th.jpg (http://img110.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fev2008118fs1.jpg)
Myself and the loves of my life...
It should include a computer somewhere to really include all the loves of my life, but I don't have one atm ;).
Ekolite Oct 30, 2008, 05:48 PM I don't know I'd just find it really awkward I guess. I don't want people to get the wrong idea or something.
I'm looking for a decent picture now actually.
EDIT: et voila: c'est moi.
This was at the prom, 2 or 3 months ago. I really dislike this picture, there's something strange about it that I can't quite work out.
EDIT 2: Oh its very small. You'll have to click on it to see it better.
Ekolite Oct 30, 2008, 05:54 PM Go on! Have a good gawp :p
Izipo Oct 30, 2008, 05:56 PM Looking great :goodjob:
Totally unlike what I had thought you'd look like.
merciary Oct 30, 2008, 06:00 PM I'd post, one but I seem to have the habit of not being in photos. I usually take them as it is my summer job.
Ekolite Oct 30, 2008, 06:05 PM Looking great :goodjob:
Totally unlike what I had thought you'd look like.
Thankyou. :)
What did you think I'd look like? :p
Izipo Oct 30, 2008, 06:09 PM What did you think I'd look like? :p
This goes for all of you : I imagine yourselves as young males with glasses, some more nerdy than others, pale complexion from lack of sunshine and brown hair. Yeah, kind of like me in fact.
Well all of you except LightFang, he'll always be a hot asian chick in my imagination ;)
Ekolite Oct 30, 2008, 06:15 PM Hahahaa Yeah - stereotypes FTW :p
That kind of person does seem to be pretty common here though to be fair. I don't really play civ (only the occasional, tiny bit of FFH) and am completely uninterested in history, computers, and most other miscellaneous nerdy things so I guess I am not really a stereotypical forum member.
merciary Oct 30, 2008, 06:18 PM Minus the glasses and light skin, (I'm outside most of the day during the summer because of my job and other things so I develop a tan that holds until mid-winter) I'd imagine you've got me Izipo.:p
Ekolite Oct 30, 2008, 06:22 PM Aaarghh I wish I could tan. I just burn, it's so annoying. Damn my scandinavian appearance! I'm actually part spanish (small part, but still.), so you'd think I would be darker then I am.
merciary Oct 30, 2008, 06:28 PM Yeah for some reason I tan and not burn despite being mostly of Western European decedent (In order of most English, German, Irish, French, Scottish). I don't know, it just gives another thing for my friends to add to the list of why I'm not human. (the scary thing is it's a decently long list)
LightFang Nov 02, 2008, 01:51 AM Kol.7, your picture doesn't appear to be working. :(
Here, I offer a picture of me as tribute.
http://img137.imageshack.us/img137/9361/n66967504020078619010vz2.jpg
It totally looks like I'm baptizing her, but that's not what's happening.
Also, it was a special occasion that day (presentation). I don't normally wear clothing like that.
taillesskangaru Nov 02, 2008, 05:20 AM Woah, I look a bit like you :D (just a bit)
Ekolite Nov 02, 2008, 06:00 AM You look a bit like one of my friends actually. I'll post the picture again.
Here:
plarq Nov 04, 2008, 06:26 AM Woah, I look a bit like you :D (just a bit)
I'm overweight, under-maintained.
thomas.berubeg Nov 06, 2008, 07:29 AM http://photos-h.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-snc1/v367/57/93/705945612/n705945612_4645567_8466.jpg
I'm in the middle
Izipo Nov 06, 2008, 03:23 PM
Yeah, bring it on.
Ekolite Nov 06, 2008, 03:38 PM  The guy on the left looks pretty... excited :p
Bigfoot3814 Nov 06, 2008, 04:14 PM I'm 17 years old, and I don't remember exactly what made me join CFC. It had to do with Civ 4 though. I don't have the patience for anything but the spammiest of forum games. There are some pictures of me in member photos.
Izipo Nov 06, 2008, 05:59 PM Try a Mafia game next time there's one.
It's good fun and I'd love to have you in.
Cheers.
Bigfoot3814 Nov 08, 2008, 09:55 PM I guess I would as long as the rules aren't too complicated and it doesn't require that much time on my part. Feel free to send me a PM or something whenever the time comes.
CCRunner Feb 14, 2009, 06:04 PM I just turned 16 about a month ago. I live in Arizona so I'm -7 GMT with no daylight savings time at all. As you could probably guess, I like running ;) I run both cross country and track but prefer cross country. Next year I'll probably be varsity. My school has been state champions in Cross Country three out of the last four years and second the other time.
I also like reading. Joined the forum mainly for civ 4, took me about a month to venture out of that area of the forum. Made my way to OT and eventually here. Oh yeah, I really dislike school even though I'm good at it. Not counting essays and crap I don't think I've done any homework at home for the last two years. It all gets done in class or at lunch. Still got a 4.0 though :D I like to say that I've had senior-itis since the seventh grade.
Diamondeye Feb 16, 2009, 03:53 PM Okay I realize this might be a serious thread necro and that I havent read thru the 7 pages of guys there is already (because I dont have the time now, I promise I will later!).
The reason for the necro is that I just found this part of CFC! I got lured by Niklas and Renata from my MTDG team (gogo Os Cavaleiros!), to lurk NotW XXII, which I drooled a bit over, so I decided I wanted to try some games in here myself, so now I'm in on NotW XXIII, ekoNES and just signed up for another notw-like (?) game.
About me; I'm 18, live in Denmark (GMT+1), with interests in music (where I have a very weird taste), politics and ofcourse games of all sorts! I am absolutely amazed by intriguing games (and pretty much all other decent games). My grandmother feeded me Civ2 when I was a small kid (grandfather owned Civ1, but it got lost when he died :( ), and it worked like a gateway drug, so I've played Civ3 (though never really mastered it and was too young to find forums), and now CIV4 BtS (well mostly FfH II).
I originally joined this forum when I read the interview with Soren Johnson in the set Sid Meiers Civilization Chronicles, containing civ1-4, and have been stuck here since then.
BananaLee Feb 16, 2009, 04:00 PM Your gramps had Civ 1? He's officially the man :D
CCRunner Feb 16, 2009, 04:26 PM Okay I realize this might be a serious thread necro
Oh yes, two days is very serious ;)
Ekolite Feb 17, 2009, 02:32 AM Pah, this thread was made to be brought back from the dead on a regular basis.
Izipo Feb 17, 2009, 11:02 AM And you cannot imagine how pleased I am by this :D
Welcome Diamondeye.
I had Civ1 too, does that makes me the man, too ? ;)
thomas.berubeg Feb 17, 2009, 01:31 PM Wow... the dead are rising. Splime is back, and I caught a glimps of cvlowe in the FFH forums
Diamondeye Feb 17, 2009, 01:43 PM If the dead are rising, be sure to bring a Life II mage with your stack
oyzar Jul 28, 2009, 11:55 AM .....
Seon Jul 28, 2009, 12:01 PM 15 and living in Northern Virginia (about 30 minute drive from DC). DC people claims that Northern Virginia is like, a different country, by the way.
I suck at being important people in NotW. I will get better though (:mwaha:).
I am planning on a NOTW too.
mythmonster2 Jul 28, 2009, 12:32 PM I already posted, but eh, I've changed a little. 14, still live in Sugar Land (Suburb of Houston), am 6 ft, goin to 10th grade. I can play Civ 3 on Noble and only play Civ 4 for Fall From Heaven, the normal game just sucks.
oyzar Jul 28, 2009, 12:54 PM I am surprised at how young most people here are. Younger than the general civ4 demographics at least.
Pinman Jul 28, 2009, 12:57 PM Well, ive moved up a demographic since I answered that poll if it helps.
Ekolite Jul 28, 2009, 02:51 PM Not sure if I've posted here before, and if I had it was a long time ago so here goes:
I'm 17, and I live in the Uk (That's a part of Europe for all you Americans out there :)). I have no idea when or why or how I came to this forum as I didn't even play Civilisation (Yeah, that's a S!) at the time. Still, never left the place since. My first NOTW was NOTW 13 I think, the one that Nero's Fire ran all those years ago, in which I was a Doctor who I think was also some kind of Inquisitor or something. A short time after I ran my first (disastrous) NOTW, although you have to admit the name was pretty cool. Been in every NOTW since I came here.
I rarely, rarely play civilisation, and when I do I play RFC, or occassionally FFH although I've gone off that mod lately. Vaguely thinking about going back to the plain old game to see how hard I get thrashed at multiplayer. Other then that I don't really play video games of any sort, especially boring Call of Duty types.
I speak English, un petit peu de francais (that's probably not right, but I can ask for a cup of tea! Hah!), and I'm also trying to learn Esperanto - Mi estas bella hundon!
KingMorgan Jul 28, 2009, 03:39 PM I best follow the crowd and post my info.
30, i have 2 children, wife, house etc. living very near to Stonehenge in England (UK), played civ for years since playing on the playstation after a rather messy weekend. Own all the Civ titles. I can beat settler easily. :) Work as a Project Engineer on various projects.
Found my way here via Renata and Niklas from the might Team Cavalieros forum.
Winston Hughes Jul 28, 2009, 05:51 PM Like KingMorgan, I'm 30 and live in England. Unlike KM, I don't have any kids and I'm not married, though I have lived with my gf for almost a decade now.
I used to be a full-time musician, but these days I work as a teaching assistant in a high school, which I plan to do for another year before becoming a teacher (ideally politics and philosophy, but more likely history). I still play a hell of a lot of music - mostly as a bassist - and have five bands on the go at present.
As for civ, I've been playing since the original came out on the trusty ol' Commodore Amiga some eighteen years ago, and I've played every incarnation since then. Civ4 was the first one I played with any degree of seriousness, and by the time I got tired of the intense micro, I could usually sneak a win on Immortal. Nowadays I tend to stick to Emperor, which is much easier on the brain.
I'd never participated in any forum games before CCRunner put me onto NotW, but I'm a massive Agatha Christie fan, and the basic elements of a NotW game struck me as similar to those found in a Poirot or Miss Marple story. When I get around to hosting my own NotW, you can be sure it'll borrow a few ideas from the Queen of Crime. :D
Renata Jul 28, 2009, 06:05 PM Woo! I should have an advantage then; I devoured those books. Of course, that was a long time ago ...
I'm in my 30s, married with a two year old son who is cuteness personified -- just ask his father. We live in the outer suburbs of New York City, with a cat and a small vegetable garden that is finally getting around to producing the odd vegetable after the awful spring/early summer we had. I used to be an analytical chemist, but have been home with my son since he was born, and as a result know more about Play-doh and the Backyardigans than I ever thought I would.
I've been playing CIV since the original version, same as several of you, but never went above the easiest level until I wound up here a couple of years after Civ 3 came out. I don't remember exactly what brought me to forum games -- random wandering, IIRC. But in any case, Niklas saw me lurking about, pointed me at NOTW, and that was all she wrote.
My time in forum games is most likely limited -- I'll have to go back to work eventually! But I intend to enjoy it while it lasts.
Sprig Jul 28, 2009, 06:16 PM I'm 25, and am a Kiwi. I work in Economic Development which means effectively means I don't do very much.
I grew up with all the civ games and am a huge X-Com (Ufo: Enemy Unknown) fan :D
Originally signed up to grab some civ 3 mods and then use to lurk around here now and then. I got caught by FFH mod and the stories thread. And dimondeyes siggy lured me here :)
Izipo Jul 29, 2009, 03:33 AM :D
Awesome, my plan worked like a charm.
Thanks for introducing yourselves guys (and gal), really appreciate it.
What has changed since my first post ?
My time here is becoming limited because of different factors, mostly a heavier workload and a new life partner. I'm 36 now, still divorced and not ready to remarry, but we have to juggle with 4 kids aged from 2 to 8. It's fun, but a bit tiring at times. I'm really looking forward to the holidays, I can tell you.
I still have a NotW (named Armageddon) in my head somewhere, but realistically I don't think I'll ever have the time to run it efficiently. On the other hand, a quick diplo-strategy could be doable. My initial rules were also lost in the database crash (such a shame!), and for some reason I can't find them in my various computers. So, if anyone has the rules from Dip II (or III), feel free to send me a PM.
Cheers.
Bartleby Jul 29, 2009, 10:35 AM Looks like I voted in the poll but didn't post in the thread.
I'm still in the same age group.
Mostly I post in spam games; For a while Forum Games was the only reason I stuck around at CFC although I'm a bit more active in Civ3 currently. Still more of a lurker really.
Ekolite Jul 29, 2009, 11:32 AM On the other hand, a quick diplo-strategy could be doable.
That'd be awesome.
Seon Jul 29, 2009, 11:54 AM Detective stories?
My NotW will require YOU to be a detective :p
Zack Jul 29, 2009, 12:26 PM I lied about my age in the poll. I'm really only three. I still wear diapers. :mischief:
oyzar Jul 29, 2009, 01:13 PM I am a young male with brown hair pale complexion and glasses..
CCRunner Jul 29, 2009, 01:18 PM I am a young male with brown hair pale complexion and glasses..For some reason, I imagine this could fit most people here, especially the pale complexion part ;) Except maybe the glasses, I don't imagine any of you with glasses really
Autolycus Jul 29, 2009, 01:45 PM I'm an 18 year old sophomore at Cornell university in Civil Engineering. In my spare time, I direct or stage manage or fight choreograph plays for the theater department or local amateur groups. EDT so GMT -4 at the moment.
Ekolite Jul 29, 2009, 02:43 PM For some reason, I imagine this could fit most people here, especially the pale complexion part ;) Except maybe the glasses, I don't imagine any of you with glasses really
I'm blonde. :p
Guess you could say I'm pale, but it's only because I can't physically tan . No glasses either.
PaulusIII Jul 29, 2009, 02:47 PM I'm 21 years old, and a Dutchman. Studying Physics.
Comparing myself to the rest of the people here, I'm pretty new to the Civilization series as a whole. Civilization IV was my first though it managed to hook me in so well that I ended up registering here. I've been playing turn-based games long before though; I've also played a lot of chess, and still teach the kids at the local chess club.
How I got here? The Divine Intervention games are to blame. CCRunner has been recruiting a lot of people there. ;)
Seon Jul 29, 2009, 02:49 PM I wear glasses... and a bit of a nerd in school. (jerk!)
Renata Jul 29, 2009, 02:57 PM I'm an 18 year old sophomore at Cornell university in Civil Engineering. In my spare time, I direct or stage manage or fight choreograph plays for the theater department or local amateur groups. EDT so GMT -4 at the moment.
Cornell! I completely failed at getting a PhD there back in the day. Nice place, though.
civplayah Jul 29, 2009, 04:23 PM I'm 13, and I'm a student, of course. Well, I enjoy dogs and music. And I like civ. :D
ZPV Jul 29, 2009, 05:05 PM I'm a 20 year old Londoner studying Maths. I guess you could say GMT, since I live only a few miles from Greenwich!
I came to this site for the (unmodded) Civ4 content, succession games at first, and then the Hall of Fame and GOTMs, although I've been playing since civ 2.
How did I find Forum Games? I mistyped the address for the GOTM forum, and wound up stuck here.
thomas.berubeg Jul 29, 2009, 10:19 PM Well. I've grown much older and more mature in the past years since I posted here the first time. (damn, has it really been that long?)
I'm now 18, a Member of my town's First aid squad, EMT in training (for about 1 more week... then i'm fully qualified to slap a bandaid, oxygen, and backboard on you and drive you to the hospital), and going to Mcgill university (which is in Montreak, QC) in September for History or Anthropology, depending.
civplayah Jun 20, 2010, 07:03 PM :bump: I wanna get this going again. :)
Zack Jun 20, 2010, 07:19 PM I'm 15, have a couple of pics in the member photos thread, live in Texas, go to school, and I'm not really comfortable sharing my name with a bunch of strangers on the internet. ;)
civplayah Jun 20, 2010, 07:21 PM Again, I'm 13, and OCD. Still like dogs, and nature.
Zack Jun 20, 2010, 07:22 PM You mean you're not a wolf on the moon? :(
civplayah Jun 20, 2010, 07:22 PM Oh, yeah, I'm very OCD. I think it's bordering on paranoia, and I am close to having an eating disorder.
And, no, I'm not a wolf. :)
ZeletDude Jun 20, 2010, 07:41 PM Alright, I'm 15 I live In A ski Resort in Idaho, I like to ski, Play baseball.. go on teh computer ;)..
And my Rl name is Dylan, Also I have a pic of me on the OT Members photos somewhere.. Only 1 though.
Zack Jun 20, 2010, 07:53 PM Not the greatest picture of me by any means, but it's the best I've got. This was taken about 6 months ago, I'm guessing.
http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash1/hs471.ash1/25821_1327861089731_1627057746_803149_6766980_n.jp g
Contrary to popular belief, my eyes are not really red. They are either green or blue, depends on the time of the year. I'm about 6' and skinny.
I came to CFC when I was searching for a way to get my BtS disc to work with my downloaded version of Civ 4 (totally legal, from Gamestop). Somehow I made my way to the Forum Games and Night of the Werewolves (I probably clicked on a link in someone's signature). I watched the ending of NOTW XXV and eagerly signed up for NOTW XXVI, which was never finished and I got totally raped by Pinman (and relentlessly hounded by oyzar as well, but I didn't tell him nearly as much as I did Pinman). I thought I was so good making deals with Pinman, and I found out that I was hopelessly wrong. I signed up for the next game, but partway through I lost interest and asked to be replaced. I pretty much disappeared from NOTW/Mafia games (I played in ATPG's Chainsaw Gang mafia game sometime in there, but I don't know how I missed out on his awesome Monty Python game, since sign ups started the day after Chainsaw Gang ended. Funnily enough, I don't remember anything about a Monty Python mafia game until somebody mentioned it in the LotR game and I went back and read it... very entertaining). I made my glorious return when Camikaze invited me to play in the Lord of the Rings Mafia, and I'm glad he did. I also signed up for It's A Long Story and I've been a consistent Mafia/NOTW player since, even hosting my own mafia game - which has a sequel in development, by the way, it should be much more awesome than the first. I started the Mafia Information Thread when I was bored one Sunday afternoon, and I've started up another game and plan to participate in Imperium Offtopicum when a new one starts.
civplayah Jun 20, 2010, 07:57 PM I was in the Civ4 Democracy Games (where I met Diamondeye) section before I tired of it and stopped visiting CivFanatics for maybe 3 to 5 months. Thankfully, I came back to the Democracy games and found a link in someone's signature promoting a NotW. There I lurked in CC's Amurite game and have played in every single mafia/NotW/mNotW game since.
Zack Jun 20, 2010, 07:59 PM You didn't play in Siege of Evermore. ;)
ZeletDude Jun 20, 2010, 08:03 PM I Have no clue how I started here  But. I am on the NESing forum the most.. only reason I actually stayed on the site ;). I Think I joined because.. Of The Civ3 Scenario Age of Imperialism. I sometimes go on the Forum Games, Mostly for Iot and What Country is that from :p
Here is a pretty good, but older.. (From January) Pic of me..

Kennigit Jun 20, 2010, 09:07 PM Wow. A lot of young folks. The OT demographic is mostly uni students.
Well, I just turned 18 and am graduating high school in virginia. I will attend Gerogia tech for engineering in the fall and am a big math/science person. I lurked cfc for a while, maybe a year, before joining....my brother probably told me about the site as he lurked but I made an account. I started out playing actually playing civ4 at around monarch, then warlords at emperor, then I could scrounge immortal. I bought BtS when it came out and played it, and used to play all the GOTMs/WOTMs/first two BOTMs. Then I stopped playing. My true love is StarCraft.
So I went to OT and am active there. I mainly make what I think are clever or funny points, and am consistently liberal. I got brought to forum games by Earthling for his Those Darn States game. I have been active since.
I will be hosting SuperVillain-FragileJustice-HP-alidocious: A Mafia Adventure! in July, as I don't have a job and will have plenty of time before going to university. It will be the most awesome game ever. And it is very educational--or at least, every character is well thought through and is very consistent. Most of the characters derive from the literary world. It's nicknames include 20,000 awesomes under the CFC and Dr. Awesome Or: How I learned to stop worrying and Love Mr. Kennigit.
There is a lot of awesome stuff that will happen, and the game has many paths it can go follow: if player x does y, awesome event z will happen. But if he does a, awesome event b will happen. A lot of characters depend on each other, and certain events will happen to trigger certain other awesome events. And the game will use an HP system, unlike other games I have seen at this forum.
Love can vouch for the awesomeness of the upcoming game.
taillesskangaru Jun 20, 2010, 09:12 PM Regardless of how you get here, you can never leave! :mwaha:
(Unless you are taken away by teh alienz)
Zack Jun 20, 2010, 09:13 PM And you will always be SpockFederation.
Kennigit Jun 20, 2010, 09:29 PM Oh wow, honestly I forgot that was my screen name (and I just recently changed it).
that's cuz I made it when I was what....15? yeah 15. I'm a hardcore nerd and I love being a nerd, but I don't want to be thought of as a star trek geek. That has more negative connotations. So now, I just got a monty python screen name.
Ekolite Jun 21, 2010, 03:14 AM Hi Guys, my name is Ekolite and... I'm an alcoholic.
Nah I'm kidding.
I'm 18, I live in England and I'm starting university this September. At college at the moment finishing my A-levels if any of you Americans have any idea what they are :p. I don't really know how I ended up on this site, I can't stand civ and while I used to play ffh every so often it's never really been my idea of fun. But yeah, I first joined Nero Fire's game and since then I've played in many of the NOTW's although not many lately.
I'd post a picture of myself but... nah. If you're that desperate to see what I look like you can add me on msn and look at my dp. Currently single at the moment, which sucks. Badly. Technically speaking I swing both ways, although I have to say I'm not much intrerested in the ladies right now. Seriously. So over-rated.
Anyway yeah, that's me.
taillesskangaru Jun 21, 2010, 03:21 AM I have to say I'm not much intrerested in the ladies right now. Seriously. So over-rated.
Yeah! They are aren't they!
That's what I tell myself to make me feel better... :(
civplayah Jun 21, 2010, 10:13 AM Technically speaking I swing both ways, although I have to say I'm not much intrerested in the ladies right now. Seriously. So over-rated.
By that do you mean you're bisexual?
Ekolite Jun 21, 2010, 11:39 AM No I was referring to the swings at the local playground :p
Yeah I'm bisexual
It's not exactly a secret on this forum lol.
west india man Jun 21, 2010, 11:50 AM I named myself after my favorite unit in RFC (A mod for Civilization IV, in case you didn't know). This unit was the Dutch East-India Man (I loved colonizing). Amazingly useful. Seeing as I'm from what they called 'West India' (Brazil), I called myself west india man. If only I named myself West India Nam, my initials would be WIN. I currently live in the UK, and have recently turned 14. Being the traditional Brazilian, I'm a carnivore and love football (soccer for you Yankees). I am top of the class in Spanish and History. Although I'm already Bi-lingual (You could even say tri-lingual, due to the fact that I'm so good at Spanish), my parents are planning to send me to France, Germany and then Italy to learn their respective languages. I wish to be an engineer when I'm older, but I'm also considering being a drummer and/or historian. I think of myself as a bit of a nerd, but not as much as a lot of others. I'm atheist (though I pretend to be Catholic, and very few know of my Atheism), and my political beliefs are in my sig.
Izipo Jun 25, 2010, 08:00 AM Hi guys, my name is Izipo, and while I've been abducted by TEH ALIENZ for the last couple of months, I have to say that I approve this bump :goodjob:
Life has been pretty complicated lately (hence the abduction), but in a good way.
Contrary to most people around here, I'm now 37, recently got a promotion and I'm getting ready to be married again, which says a lot about hope vs. experience.
With my partner we now have 4 kids aged 9,7,6 and 3 so my days are rather busy.
I've been in NotW VIII to XXVII (?) and still consider them as one of the best gaming exeprience I ever had.
I miss the community around here a lot, especially Nik, LF and Kol.7 to name a few, so I will return... eventually.
Cheers.
Ekolite Jun 25, 2010, 08:30 AM Awww I miss you too Izipo! Come back for my game if you can, it starts in a few weeks or so.
Kol.7=Ekolite now if you're wondering who I am :p.
GhostWriter16 Jun 28, 2010, 07:46 PM I'm actually 15, turning 14.
How:confused:
Zack Jun 28, 2010, 07:54 PM You know he's joking, right?
GhostWriter16 Jun 28, 2010, 07:57 PM You know he's joking, right?
I thought it was a typo.
taillesskangaru Jun 30, 2010, 06:32 AM Oh, that.
Yeah, well I haven't changed much since then. In university now. I've become lazy, cautious and cynical. I'm still depressed. I know a few more people. Civilitas is dead. Durkar is dead. Tigrisian Empire is dead. CivUnited is dead. Still drawing for DYOS.
ZeletDude Jun 30, 2010, 11:24 AM I thought it was a typo.
Just a question. Why would you quote a post from... 3 years ago?.......
Anyway. Whats everyone doing this summer? (Well for the people who its summer for) :p
I'm going to Oregon to camp for a week, California for 3ish weeks and Seattle for another week. Very fun :)
civplayah Jun 30, 2010, 12:35 PM I'm not doing much. Spent a lot of money last summer, so we're not going on vacation or anything like that.
civplayah Jun 30, 2010, 12:38 PM In real life I'm a depressed, nerdy, weak kid who doesn't talk much and when I talk I stammer and I usually end up insulting someone. So yeah, nice to meet you guys...
Really? You don't seem at all like that online. Well, what can I say, I'm not OCD when I'm on CFC.
taillesskangaru Jun 30, 2010, 12:40 PM The ability to carefully craft a written reply and edit posts while communicating online might have something to do with it.
civplayah Jun 30, 2010, 12:55 PM Hm, well I guess this is true more or less for all (or most) of us.
Zack Sep 10, 2010, 06:54 PM :bump:
I'm still 15, still incredibly handsome.
civplayah Sep 10, 2010, 07:40 PM Always the cocky one, Zack. ;)
I'm 13 (despite me earlier saying I was 28) and I honestly don't have anything to say about how I look because I don't know if others perceive me to be handsome or... what else.
High school's fun, but I'm a good deal younger than anyone else (I turn 14 in May) although I've been told I'm mature, so, you know, I'll be fine.
I'm a musician, a poet, and I like singing but I'm not very good. I love dogs and I love nature and I love socialization and I started on my Christmas wish list over the summer and I have 121 things on it currently.
I don't consider myself to be a nerd, just... smart. But I guess that's open to debate.
Zack Sep 10, 2010, 08:05 PM You're already in high school? Did you skip a grade?
Mango Elephant Sep 10, 2010, 08:31 PM Always the cocky one, Zack. ;)
I'm 13 (despite me earlier saying I was 28) and I honestly don't have anything to say about how I look because I don't know if others perceive me to be handsome or... what else.

taillesskangaru Sep 10, 2010, 09:10 PM Just curious, why did you say you were 28 earlier?
Ekolite Sep 11, 2010, 05:20 AM I guessed that you might be younger when you once asked me if uni was short for university :p
Mango Elephant Sep 11, 2010, 05:26 AM Hello, mah name is Mango Elephant and I'm only 14 years owld. I love to play sports, except for football (American) and basketball because it's boring as hell to play or watch. I look at maps for fun. And I play WoW and I'm a goldwhore above anything else in game. My best friend is a gothic chick who could probley beat me up if she wanted to because she plays football and I don't but she would never because she loves me. I love nerds, I'm from North Carolina and I love music.
I'm also (semi) Ghetto.
Abaddon Sep 11, 2010, 05:37 AM 14? oh dear...
taillesskangaru Sep 11, 2010, 05:39 AM I look at maps for fun.
So do I! :D
Mango Elephant Sep 11, 2010, 05:39 AM 14? oh dear...
14 and a quarter.
So do I! :D
LOL how many atlases do you have?
west india man Sep 11, 2010, 05:39 AM 14? oh dear...
I'm 14 as well you ********!
I love to play sports, except for football (American) and basketball because it's boring as hell to play or watch.
 American Football is great to watch (even though I never do :p), and Rugby is great to play. Basketball is great to play and watch, but I never watch it as it's never on! :p
We played a little basketball in PE on Thursday, which was the first time I've ever played it, and I was the best player on my (crappy) team! Whenever they went without me, they lost in about 10 seconds, but with me it took several minutes to lose!
Abaddon Sep 11, 2010, 05:41 AM I say oh dear because I didn't realise I was debating sexuality and the job of oral sex with a 14y.o.
Man, I wouldn't of had a CLUE back then.
(I am TWENTY FOUR)
Mango Elephant Sep 11, 2010, 05:46 AM It was only once and with a friend, so it isn't a big deal. I'm still a virgin.
Ekolite Sep 11, 2010, 05:48 AM Yeah, knowing Mango's age I thought that discussion was pretty funny :p. Trust me Mango, in a few years you'll love it ;)
taillesskangaru Sep 11, 2010, 05:51 AM LOL how many atlases do you have?
Well, atlases are rather expensive... though I do own two world atlases and another historical atlas, plus a book on the history of cartography (birthday gift from a friend). My relatives subscribe to National Geographic and I have a stack of NG maps from those on my bookshelf, plus a few I took from school when they were clearing out old NG magazines, and a few other wall maps. So I rely on libraries for my map fix. And then I have several folders of maps on my laptop...
west india man Sep 11, 2010, 05:53 AM I just have a big geo-political map of the world on my wall! :p
Abaddon Sep 11, 2010, 05:54 AM I need maps because I NES. I use Wiki mostly.
Mango Elephant Sep 11, 2010, 05:58 AM I have a historical atlas that's pretty nice, and a national geographic atlas that's really nice that my mom's friend gave me for like, 60 USD (it was on sale) and world maps, of course. I sometimes read them for hours on end.
taillesskangaru Sep 11, 2010, 05:59 AM I just have a big geo-political map of the world on my wall! :p
Problem with them is that they tend to get out of date pretty quickly. I usually just make my own... :p
civplayah Sep 11, 2010, 09:22 AM You're already in high school? Did you skip a grade?
Yes, eighth.
You're only 13? I always thought you were older ...
Thanks! :D
Just curious, why did you say you were 28 earlier?
Because I didn't know there were other teens on here.
I guessed that you might be younger when you once asked me if uni was short for university :p
I still have never heard it called that... I think it's a British thing.
Abaddon Sep 11, 2010, 09:24 AM In britain
School is up to ~16
College 16~18
Uni above that.
At College you do 4 subjects
At Uni you do 1
civplayah Sep 11, 2010, 09:26 AM I believe it's different here.
But it's different for every major, I think, so I don't really want to get into it.
You start college at 16, though ? We start at 18.
Abaddon Sep 11, 2010, 09:28 AM You don't get to drink til 21 either :roffle:
civplayah Sep 11, 2010, 09:29 AM When are you guys allowed to drink?
Of course, when I'm older, I won't drink anyway.
Mango Elephant Sep 11, 2010, 09:34 AM Of course, when I'm older, I won't drink anyway.
Why the hell not?
civplayah Sep 11, 2010, 09:36 AM Because alcohol is poisonous.
Mango Elephant Sep 11, 2010, 09:37 AM Because alcohol is poisonous.
Are you an alcohalic?
civplayah Sep 11, 2010, 09:37 AM Uh, no, why?
Mango Elephant Sep 11, 2010, 09:38 AM If you don't drink yourself into a druken stupor I doubt anything bad would happen if you decided to have a drink or two.
west india man Sep 11, 2010, 09:41 AM :agree:
Zack Sep 11, 2010, 09:42 AM Are you an alcohalic?
If he was a 13-year old American alcoholic, do you really think he would say he's never going to drink?
Your question must be in jest.
Mango Elephant Sep 11, 2010, 09:43 AM Your question must be in jest.
Duh..
Abaddon Sep 11, 2010, 10:11 AM Alcohol is 18 over here.
fdgsgds Sep 12, 2010, 12:06 AM The drinking age in the U.S. is 21, but we can start driving at 16 :D
So... my first post in this thread. I just realized it's from 2007.
ZeletDude Sep 14, 2010, 06:34 PM The drinking age in the U.S. is 21, but we can start driving at 16 :D

WRONG!
In many states including mine you can start driving at 14 1/2 :D. Mainly for the farmer kids in the country but I don't farm so its good for me. :D
Mango Elephant Sep 14, 2010, 06:43 PM I'm only 14 and a quarter.
civplayah Sep 14, 2010, 07:42 PM I'm not even 13 and a half...
But high school's going good... I took the Algebra I EOC and passed it, and my teacher said I did very well. That's good, considering I haven't taken Algebra I yet.
I don't have much friends, as all but one of the freshmen class is a year older than me or more. I could still do facebook (with my friends from middle school- I had a lot of friends back then), but Opera's glitchy or something and facebook doesn't work very well on it. :( I wish I had friends at school. :(
Zack Sep 14, 2010, 07:58 PM Aren't you supposed to take the EOC.... at the end of the course?
fdgsgds Sep 15, 2010, 03:17 PM Eoc?
.
Mango Elephant Sep 15, 2010, 03:24 PM End Of Course.
I decided to tell y'all about my teachers! These aren't their real names, of course.
Ms. Sandylee - She's from Michigan! She's really nice and doesnt mind if we cuss or have our cellphones out. She also gives me high grades even though I deserve much less.
Ms. Wormwood - A Southern belle from Texas! She's kinda stict, but she likes me a lot and I like her too. Her accent's adorable!
Ms. Kelly - She's only about 28 years old and has really, really big assets. She likes to talk about how she used to party but how she never EVER went to a guys house after the club shut down or how she never did any of the hard stuff.
Ms. Shadler - She's from Ohio and I dislike her. She's kinda friendly to her students, a bit too much tbh, and she's not funny at all. She likes to talk about eggs and sperm a lot and her accent grates my ears.
civplayah Sep 15, 2010, 06:19 PM Aren't you supposed to take the EOC.... at the end of the course?
Yeah, but she gave us the EOC at the beginning of the year as a pre-assessment. Lubber and I are the only ones that passed in the freshmen class.
But she still won't promote me to geometry. grumble
Zack Sep 16, 2010, 08:06 AM I took Algebra I in Middle School, it's a really easy course.
civplayah Sep 16, 2010, 04:18 PM :agree: It is easy. And boring. :(
fdgsgds Sep 20, 2010, 04:13 PM You don't call the tests at the end of the year "finals" ?
Zack Sep 20, 2010, 04:21 PM They're two different things.
civplayah Sep 20, 2010, 05:29 PM We don't have 'finals'. Over here in the east we have EOGs (end of grades) and EOCs (end of courses).
Zack Sep 20, 2010, 06:01 PM Oh. I have both, but I don't have an EOC for every class.
Typically, the EOC is easier than the final.
civplayah Sep 20, 2010, 06:08 PM I think the EOGs are easier because they're for the whole grade level and the EOCs are specific for skill level.
Mango Elephant Sep 20, 2010, 06:12 PM EOGs are specific to a course as well. Or they are here in Raleigh.
civplayah Sep 20, 2010, 06:20 PM Well, to a class. For example, we'll have a math EOG, but an Algebra I EOC.
civplayah Sep 22, 2010, 06:18 PM So, how's everyone liking school so far?
west india man Sep 22, 2010, 06:22 PM I hate it...:(
