View Full Version : New civs and islands show up out of nowhere?
jpinard Sep 01, 2007, 04:12 PM Is this part of BtS? I played with Vassalage off in my previous games and over the past hundred years four new civs (along with giant island chunks) have shown up in my game. The max # of civs was supposed to be 13. I'm now up to 17 civs :(

I'm pretty sure that colonies can't appear while vassalizing is turned off.

He never specified whether or not Vassals are enabled in the current game he is describing. But the bolded part seems to indicate that he is playing with Vassals on this game. Yeah... it's a bit vague.

Meh... it was quite vague, I thought pretty much of the exact same thing you said at first.
Oh yes, if I pop a Great Engineer, then I usually burn him on a wonder.
Antilogic Sep 02, 2007, 04:17 PM It was annoying when I was about to receive a Conquest victory the moment I vassalized the last sucker on my continent, and then he spun off some other cities to create a new Civ in the New World. They didn't last much longer, but then I had to build a navy of galleons to transport my armies across to the new world...f&$%ing Portuguese and their carracks...
jpinard Sep 02, 2007, 05:31 PM Sorry. My previous games had Vassalage off. This game Vassalage is on.
As far as I can tell, whole civs with new leaders were created. Iv'e got a savegame from the beginning, so I'll have to check to see if new land was created in the ocean. I could be wrong about, but I was sure I'd seen everything. With these new colonies however, their cities appear to be instantly upgraded? At any rate, in my Indian-African game, I was surprised so suddenly see Washington saying Hello.
One thing I also don't understand is half my cities (no matter where they are) keep asking to join the Malinese Empire (their true heritage?), yet the Mali are nowhere near any of these cities, and they're all 100% Gallic (me).

Ignore that. It runs on the same feature that determines when the game bugs you about Settlers and Universities and whatnot.

And yes, land masses don't appear... or disappear.... although it might be quite interesting to add this Atlantis / Krakatoa element to the game! :D
Elros Sep 03, 2007, 07:32 AM Imagine if you drew Atlantis though?

Sort of. The colonized Civ used to be a part of its master, giving the cities a while to grow before they split off on their own.

Also, the newly independent civ gets all the techs the master had.
