View Full Version : More diplomacy options I would like to see

So I've been playing and was thinking of a few options/settings I would like to see for diplomacy:

1. I'm tired of getting requests from the AI asking for open borders every few turns. I'm an isolationist bastard and don't want to deal with those requests. I'd like to be able to tell certain leaders, "No, and please take me off your telemarketing list!" And a response like that should stop them from contacting me for something like 20 or 30 turns, and it should come with a hit to their attitude towards me for that same period of time or longer.

2. I want to have somebody join me in a war as I want to take out 4 cities near me to wipe out the Roman empire. Problem is, there's a 5th city a little bit aways and blocked by Persian territory. Persia has been asking me to join them in a war against Rome anyways, so I want to request a more specific alliance with them. I want to ask Persia to join me in a war against Rome, and more specifically to target Argos. I'd essentially be giving Persia a not-so-random "event" to take Argos from the Romans where I give them something once they complete their mission (either cash, a tech, a resource, whatever). Or maybe I can trade events just like you would trade resources, techs, or whatever. Something like this:
I give: War with Romans and promise to take Rome
Persians give: War with Romans and promise to take Argos

Once both sides complete their end of the bargain, the deal is over and you get an attitude boost with the ally. If either side declares peace with the mutual enemy before completing their end of the mission, then there would be a negative attitude adjustment ("you dragged us into an un-winnable war" or "you deserted us during wartime" depending on who broke the agreement).

And if one side completes their end of the bargain, they have a right to then declare peace with Rome even if the other party still has work to do without it being considered "deserting us during wartime."

Any thoughts on if this is possible and if anybody would be interested in doing this??

You CAN actually tell another civ where to attack if it is helping you in war against another civ.You can't make complex peace treaty or pact of defense, probably they would be too complex for AI.

Really? How do I do that? How about if he asks me again to join him in destroying the Romans. Then can I still ask him to target Argos? I figure if I wait for Persia to ask me, I shouldn't take as much of a diplomatic hit from my other future victims (I mean current friends) for attacking a fellow Christian brother (I'm leader of the AP at the moment, too...), even though I'm allying with the infidel Buddhist Persians ;)

AFAIK, diplomacy (specialy adding new treaties) is the one thing that can't be modded, so bad luck.

In diplomacy view go to:
-let's discuss something else

then

-why don't you attack ..............!?

edit:for diplomacy view i mean when you are speaking with a leader

In regards to the AI spamming requests, I would love an option to simply tell envoys to bugger off before they open communication, as in Civ III and Alpha Centauri.
I get sick to death of Pacal II's fat face loading on my screen for 10 minutes because he contacted me in the middle of a complex turn only to demand that I stop trading with the Persians for the eleven billionth time.

Yeah that cracks me up sometimes.

The AI just keeps calling, even when I hate them. I would love a refuse to talk feature like they have. But I guess we could just do a trade embargo against them.

One other thing is I had two AI's DOW on me on the same turn, I thought they had allied together, but it didn't show up on the dipo screen.

Since civ X DOW on me first and then civ Y, do I asume that civ X got civ Y to ally with them? Both civs were mad at me, so I thought it was possible that the were not allied.

And no it was not the AP with is WAR against the infidals. I have had that happen, its real fun having 4 Buddist fanatics take your empire from you until all thats left is a little fishing village on a lone island lol.

Even funnier when Taoists do it.
"In order to achieve a perfect state without need of the trappings of civilisation, we're taking everything from you and keeping it, and thus YOU will be the perfect Taoist.. for you will have nothing.. er.. wait a minute.."

Probably CivX bribed CivY to attack you!
