View Full Version : Tyson v. Lewis
JoeM Jun 05, 2002, 09:36 AM Boxing may be the least meaningful sport around with titles rarely reflecting anything other than money and timing, but at last a British (read: Canadian) fighter, Lennox Lewis is going to beat that most American of Americans (sic) Iron Mike Tyson.
So,
Who's gonna win?
Flatlander Fox Jun 05, 2002, 09:51 AM If Tyson MAKES it to the fight, he will win.
This could be his last hurrah, and I just don't think Lewis is tough enough to handle him.
Don't get me wrong, Mike Tyson doesn't have the skills he used to. But if he can get at Lewis early, he might be able to pull it off.
I like Boxing, but I sure do hate the promoters.:(
JoeM Jun 06, 2002, 01:18 AM I'm not so sure, Lewis needs this fight more than Tyson.
Lewis has been the best on the circuit for a while now, but there are no worthy opponents, Tyson is the only name out there so to make his creer sound more worthy Lewis needs to hammer Tyson convincingly.
Tyson however needs a straight-jacket more than anything else. With these fights you can never tell because one lucky punch can end the fight (See Rahman v. Lewis)

Well, that's unfortunate. My dream job in government was to be the PR guy for the boxing commission so I could make a lateral exit after a year to become Canada's premier boxing promoter.
What better job could one have? You get to say stupid things at press conferences, you have big friends to protect you, all the women you'd meet are of the sort that would hate chick flicks, and - best of all:
"Mmmmmmmm, organized crime.
Oh, and Lennox by a whisker.
floppa21 Jun 06, 2002, 07:00 AM I became a fan of boxing watching Clay/Ali... Boxing nowadays is pathetic. I'd pull for Lewis but I won't be able to watch the fight. No way will I shell out money for it and none of my friends do Pay per View when it comes to boxing now either. Boxing has lost it's appeal and they don't concern themselves with it. It still makes them money.
Stat Kat Jun 06, 2002, 07:12 AM Tyson is supposed to be in pretty good shape. If Lewis can withstand the initial onslaught in the early round, I think Lewis can grind it out late with a decision.
Of course, by money is on Tyson getting DQed somehow before it gets that long anyway.
duke o' york Jun 06, 2002, 08:43 AM I don't care about this fight but I want Tyson to leave the public eye for good so whether he is beaten by Lewis or is jailed doesn't matter to me. In fact, he could decide to retire to a Tibetan monastery and I'd be delighted with the result. :)

I'd be praying for the Tibetan monks if that happened.
Lewis should win easily, but Tyson has, literally, a puncher's chance.
CornMaster Jun 06, 2002, 04:36 PM You should have an option for:
"Tyson....assuming he isn't disqualified." :)
JoeM Jun 07, 2002, 01:51 AM Cornmaster, surely he would be disqualified for eating the Referee?
Oh hang on, this is boxing! :crazyeye:
;)
starlifter Jun 08, 2002, 06:50 AM That Tyson is allowed to box makes the case for disbanding all heavyweight boxing until the sport is reformed.
Let Tyson knaw the ears off the commissioners that sanctioned the fight, and the put Tyson where he deserves to be... in Prison. And keep him there for 30 or 40 years.
That Lewis would agree to fight Tyson is reason enough to ban Lewis and all his managers and hangers-on from teh world of boxing permanently. And hang all the promoters who stood to gain financially.
Like the Doctor said to the technician in the X-ray room, "Barium!!" (Bury 'em!)....
Disgusting.
:)
el_kalkylus Jun 08, 2002, 12:47 PM Still fun. Now why do I have to pay 298 kr to see this game? Too much money! They should just show it on normal cable, the greedy bastards.
Richard III Jun 08, 2002, 09:18 PM I just saw a report: Lennox took it in the eighth!!
HahA!
I should have bet, dammit!

starlifter Jun 09, 2002, 05:48 AM I'm no Lewis fan per se, but I'm happy he "disciplined" Mikey-baby.
Now slap that loser Mike, along with all his hangers on, into the slammer. :goodjob:

Excuse me for saying it but hasn't Tyson done his time?
Rodgers Jun 12, 2002, 03:17 AM Tyson seemed pretty humble after the fight (I loved his "I have so much respect for this guy, all the stuff I said before the fight was just to get some publicity for it" speech!) - I reckon he'll become a better person as a result - as did George Forman after the rumble in the jungle.
BTW did anyone else feel embarassed watching Lewis say that he was dedicating the victory to the Queen for the Jubilee?
kittenOFchaos Jun 12, 2002, 03:50 AM Then the winnings should go to the Crown too :D
