View Full Version : Suitcase nuke
Papa Smurf Sep 02, 2007, 03:14 PM :nuke: On the box my BTS came in it says there are suitcase nukes in the game
how do u get one??
on the espionage screen it doesnt say how many points u need; because im guessing its a mission. In most of the games ive played now the U.N votes for no nukes but does this hav any affect on suitcase nukes
ARE THERE ANY IN THE GAME
marioflag Sep 02, 2007, 03:15 PM No there aren't.
MrCynical Sep 02, 2007, 03:41 PM There's none in the main game. I don't know about all the mods that come with it. The only nukes in the main game are ICBMs and tactical nukes.
Lord Olleus Sep 02, 2007, 03:51 PM Suitcase nukes would be pretty fun. ICBMs are a waste of hammers after the SDI is built, and tactical nukes are good for laying waste enemy stacks but they lack the range to hit enemy core cities. Suitcase nukes would be usefull for destroying an enemy's economy post SDI. Maybe they should also negate the effect of nuclear bomb shelters as people wouldn't have time to get into them?
Bushface Sep 02, 2007, 04:03 PM My BtS box (English edition) does not mention suitcase nukes - which don't, as said above, exist in the game.
ezwip Sep 02, 2007, 04:04 PM It shows a mechanized infantry attacking like a transformer too.

Sounds like a good idea. You could give them a chance of success as well, considering how terrorists tend to get caught doing these things. Increased espionage spending to stop it would work too.
InvisibleStalke Sep 02, 2007, 07:06 PM Well, a suitcase nuke would explain how a spy manages to pillage a whole town down to bare grassland.
Spearthrower Sep 03, 2007, 05:48 AM Well, a suitcase nuke would explain how a spy manages to pillage a whole town down to bare grassland.
That was what I took it to mean too.
RedRalphWiggum Sep 03, 2007, 06:27 AM The guy on the box has a nuclear-related poison for the water system is my guess
Peng Qi Sep 03, 2007, 06:32 AM Wait, aren't suitcase nukes in Next War? Load up the Next War mod and see if there are suitcase nukes. If you want to play a normal game with the Next War units and tech tree, just go to single player, then custom mod, then choose Next War. It'll load up, but then you have to click back to get to the normal game options.
Elros Sep 03, 2007, 06:38 AM I'm afraid to say they aren't.
And given how much the AI loves espionage that could only be a good thing
Soneji Sep 03, 2007, 06:44 AM Yes, send in the suitcases!

Exactly - I hate to think of an AI with such subversive power. Aren't suitcase nukes associated with terrorists anyway? Civ is supposed to be a civilized game! Anyway, they weren't mentioned on my UK box.
Elros Sep 03, 2007, 07:24 AM It wasn't mentioned as such, it was on the cover picture, the spy had a suitcase with a nuclear trefoil (I have the UK box too)

You don't get much more terroristy than poisoning the watersupply. Isn't that like the granddaddy of terrorist acts? So at least I don't see that as a reason to not include them. But suitcase nukes does seem a mite too strong to include.
Cabay Jet Sep 03, 2007, 09:40 AM In Civ II if you used a suitcase nuke against a person you weren't at war with and got caught everybody around the world would declare war upon you and your reputation would suffer greatly. If you were at war with him, your relations with everybody else would suffer a little, but nobody else would declare war on you.
Sounds like having a world war against you if you're caught is a good punishment. Now getting the AI to understand the consequences could be tricky...

Yeah if you're going to become a terrorist then you might as well have a war on terror fought against you! It would be fine that way...but as you say, the AI can be rather trigger happy sometimes and forget the consequences.
Diamondeye Sep 03, 2007, 11:09 AM Bring lots of nukes. All kinds of nukes. Suitcase nukes, tactical Nukes, Enormous Nukes, Dragon Nukes (couse dragons are damn cool), Handcarried Nuke, Stationary Nuke (?), SS Nuke, whatever.. As long as they are aplenty.
:nuke: - :nuke: - :nuke: - :nuke: - :nuke: - :nuke: - :nuke: - :nuke: - :nuke: - :nuke:
Ignore the title of this reply.
Elros Sep 03, 2007, 11:18 AM Nuclear trains?
Diamondeye Sep 03, 2007, 11:25 AM Yes, those aswell :)
Can someone tell, is this the offtopic forum ? :)
Elros Sep 03, 2007, 11:28 AM Actually nuclear trains is a good idea.
You could send them through an SDI and further inland than a tactical could reach, but only where there's railroads for them to follow
Jamesds Sep 03, 2007, 11:36 AM You are all ruining the game with mega nukes - we don't need more nukes! I think you should invent a mod for your own satisfaction. Please - no more nukes!
Diamondeye Sep 03, 2007, 11:37 AM @Jamesds:
Make sure your sarcasm sensors aren't out of battery - I was merely joking ;)

Whoops, batteries replaced and sensors recalibrated :crazyeye:. That's good then. However, I still don't want suitcase nukes whatever anyone else says!!

im not saying put them in...but
ON MY BOX it states
POWERFUL WEAPONS.
POWERFUL CONSEQUENCES.
--------------------------
launch guided missiles and suitcase nukes <--- ??????
and build an army of mech assault
soldiers, cyborgs, navy seals and other
modern-era units.
usa version... so im just sayin..they lied to me
i think it could be a cool spy function..and i can see A.I. being a ***** using them too.

Right! Gotcha - that's in the Next War mod, like another era added onto the typical civ game with all these cool units.
Papa Smurf Sep 04, 2007, 03:06 PM They made it sound like it was in normal game play
mmm...
Dominico Sep 04, 2007, 03:41 PM Yeah i wanted cyborg robot walkers to fight too. And nukular trains sound cool as!!!
I want the eco terrorist back too, from call to power. That thing levelled a city and replaced it with a nice rainforest :D Sweet as!
