View Full Version : WII or Xbox360? Valen Dreth Sep 14, 2007, 02:36 PM Hey guys. I am going to buy either one of the consoles, but I cannot decide which! Anyone who can recommend any of them, and say why they recommend it? :) Love Sep 14, 2007, 02:37 PM Wrong forum though... But buy a Xbox... azzaman333 Sep 14, 2007, 02:37 PM Xbox 360 currently has more good games, but the Wii will have more eventually. Masquerouge Sep 14, 2007, 03:05 PM Totally different consoles. The 360 is more expensive, more dedicated to gamers. The Wii is cheaper with games for the whole family. OF course there are exceptions, but that's the general idea. sourboy Sep 14, 2007, 03:05 PM It's my understanding that the WII is only good for social gatherings, and they are simple games. If you want challenge or complexity, stick with the XBox360. Ansar Sep 14, 2007, 03:15 PM Moderators - Please move to Forum Games. Thank You. :) On-topic: I like the Wii better. Love Sep 14, 2007, 03:19 PM Moderators - Please move to Computer Talk. Thank You. :) azzaman333 Sep 14, 2007, 03:28 PM It's my understanding that the WII is only good for social gatherings, and they are simple games. If you want challenge or complexity, stick with the XBox360. That is an unfair assessment. Yuri2356 Sep 14, 2007, 03:41 PM It's my understanding that the WII is only good for social gatherings, and they are simple games. If you want challenge or complexity, stick with the XBox360. And you base this understanding on... Masquerouge Sep 14, 2007, 03:55 PM That is an unfair assessment. And you base this understanding on... It's not an unfair assessment, and this understanding is based on the numerous declarations from Nintendo, along with their technological choices for their console, that show a clear targeting of a broader audience for the Wii than the traditional gaming crowd. Games such as Wii Sports or Wii Play, along with a controller that does not have 16 buttons like the usual ones, and a conscious choice to forgo high technology for simplicity of use and cheap prices, is proof enough that the Wii does not target the same crowd as the 360 or the PS3. And mind you, it's in no way a criticism, I only have a Wii right now. There are great complex games for hardcore gamers, true, but they do not define the console. I mean, look at this Wii ad: http://www2.noticiasdot.com/publicaciones/2006/0906/1409/noticias/wii-estreno/images/wii-estreno-02.jpg and now look at this 360 add: http://www.jonathanhodgson.co.uk/blog/xbox360ad.jpg Can't you see the difference between the two ads, the message they're conveying, and the target they want to reach? azzaman333 Sep 14, 2007, 03:58 PM There are definately complex and challenging games for the Wii though (Twilight Princess comes to mind). His post suggested that the only challenging games are on Xbox360. Love Sep 14, 2007, 03:58 PM The 360 is much cooler. Masquerouge Sep 14, 2007, 04:00 PM There are definately complex and challenging games for the Wii though (Twilight Princess comes to mind). His post suggested that the only challenging games are on Xbox360. Fair enough :) El_Machinae Sep 14, 2007, 04:23 PM I bought a Wii for a variety of reasons. But I think that I'd prefer the concept of the Wii to be worked on by game developers. As far as potential goes, the greater-interactivity of the Wii will have better long-term benefits as a gaming system. woody60707 Sep 14, 2007, 04:42 PM They really are two different systems. The Wii is more for people that have friends and a social life. Xbox/PS3 users are more for people that live in there parents basement. Now I said that jokingly, but there is some truth to it. Masquerouge Sep 14, 2007, 04:43 PM They really are two different systems. The Wii is more for people that have friends and a social life. Xbox/PS3 users are more for people that live in there parents basement. Now I said that jokingly, but there is some truth to it. And to add to that: the Wii will get you girls. The 360 and the PS3... not so much :) Dawgphood001 Sep 14, 2007, 04:46 PM Xbox 360 is a good console...simply because it has Gears of War which is a frigging AWESOME game to play with your buddies. Wii though is more well-rounded. And chicks like to play it. azzaman333 Sep 14, 2007, 04:50 PM Xbox 360 is a good console...simply because it has Gears of War which is a frigging AWESOME game to play with your buddies. Wii though is more well-rounded. And chicks like to play it. Gears of War is incredibly awesome in co-op mode. Best thing about the 360 I've seen, that game. Chukchi Husky Sep 14, 2007, 04:58 PM The Wii is more for people that have friends and a social life.I have a Wii, but I have no social skills. Masquerouge Sep 14, 2007, 05:01 PM I have a Wii, but I have no social skills. I'm sorry ;) Portugal Sep 14, 2007, 05:09 PM Hey guys. I am going to buy either one of the consoles, but I cannot decide which! Anyone who can recommend any of them, and say why they recommend it? :) Your definitely going to want an Xbox 360. :goodjob: MobBoss Sep 14, 2007, 05:14 PM I got my kids an xbox 360 and it broke after 9 months use (i.e. the red ring of death - overheating issue). But its still under warranty so they are replacing it for free right now. MobBoss Sep 14, 2007, 05:15 PM Gears of War is incredibly awesome in co-op mode. Best thing about the 360 I've seen, that game. Guitar Hero II rocks as well. Lots of fun. azzaman333 Sep 14, 2007, 05:16 PM Oh and if it matters to you, Xbox360 makes a noticable sound whilst on most of the time, the Wii doesn't do that. Lozzy_Ozzy Sep 14, 2007, 05:27 PM I got my kids an xbox 360 and it broke after 9 months use (i.e. the red ring of death - overheating issue). But its still under warranty so they are replacing it for free right now. Amen to that; mine needs to be sent off for the same reason. I am happy with it though... Oblivion, Rainbow Six, Gears... and Halo soon! I've always had a Sony and Nintendo side by side (from psone onwards obviously) but after playing the Wii I don't like it too much, and I have Twilight on the GC... I think i'll get a PS3 as well when I get the cash. Lozzy_Ozzy Sep 14, 2007, 05:28 PM Oh and if it matters to you, Xbox360 makes a noticable sound whilst on most of the time, the Wii doesn't do that. To be honest I think most people forget about it when you really get into the games. Dawgphood001 Sep 14, 2007, 05:31 PM I think i'll get a PS3 as well when I get the cash. My best friend got one of those a couple months ago. Money VERY well spent. A truly excellent, versatile console. Does just about everything. Lozzy_Ozzy Sep 14, 2007, 05:35 PM My best friend got one of those a couple months ago. Money VERY well spent. A truly excellent, versatile console. Does just about everything. Yeah, although i'm not too fussed about the whistles and bells. The free online is a plus and although the graphics aren't on par at the minute, when they get to grips with the programming i'm sure they'll be amazing. And thats not even considering the like of FFXIII and GTA4. azzaman333 Sep 14, 2007, 05:39 PM My best friend got one of those a couple months ago. Money VERY well spent. A truly excellent, versatile console. Does just about everything. Except you can buy a Wii and a 360 for the same price as a PS3. Lozzy_Ozzy Sep 14, 2007, 06:02 PM Except you can buy a Wii and a 360 for the same price as a PS3. But they've all got different ups and downs. If I had had the money to get the PS3 when I got my 360... I would have. I think they've all got something to offer but in this gen Nintendo has gone way too much towards the casual gamer, a few gems aside. civverguy Sep 14, 2007, 07:17 PM Hey guys. I am going to buy either one of the consoles, but I cannot decide which! Anyone who can recommend any of them, and say why they recommend it? :) What kind of games do you like? El_Machinae Sep 14, 2007, 08:28 PM Actually, I have yet to find a game I would actually buy for the Wii. We find that after two rentings, we're not interested in playing that game anymore. Red Door Sep 14, 2007, 08:46 PM Get the 360, Halo 3 comes out in 4/5 days. The EA Sports Franchise Games look absolutely amazing. The games are better, plus it's not Nintendo. GoodEnoughForMe Sep 14, 2007, 11:32 PM I prefer the Wii in terms of fun factor and price, and, of the thre systems, it is the one that girls are most willing to play. VRWCAgent Sep 14, 2007, 11:36 PM Is there really an advantage to a dedicated gaming console if you have a computer? I mean, my "console" has a 120+ key controller, plus an extra controller thingy that you move around and click even more button on, a kick-butt surround system, and it's portable so I can take it on trips and keep playing my games easily. MjM Sep 14, 2007, 11:41 PM 360 is fun but has horrible hardware. 50% fail rate? wtf? Wii is pretty fun but the controller is too annoying for me, but it does have an appealing price tag. Wolfe Tone Sep 15, 2007, 06:01 AM I'd buy a Wii, in fact I plan to eventually. Unless I am completly mistaken there isn't much that an xbox can do that a high end pc could not do better. I imagine it would be pretty difficult to replicate the control scheme of the Wii on a PC, although I'm sure some bright spark out there is working on a Wii-esque controller that could be used with a PC. It couldn't be that hard could it? Chukchi Husky Sep 15, 2007, 06:09 AM Someone made something that can make Wii controllers work on a PC. IglooDude Sep 15, 2007, 06:25 AM Moved to All Other Games innonimatu Sep 15, 2007, 07:20 AM The 360 is much cooler. Actually, it's much hotter  Expect it to fail if you play in a hot environment. Kan' Sharuminar Sep 15, 2007, 08:46 AM Someone made something that can make Wii controllers work on a PC. I saw that in a PC Gamer article. Wish I'd held onto it :) I would probably go for the XBox over the Wii, simply because it has a larger range of games. As has been asked before though, what sort of games do you like to play? civverguy Sep 15, 2007, 01:14 PM Get the 360, Halo 3 comes out in 4/5 days. The EA Sports Franchise Games look absolutely amazing. The games are better, plus it's not Nintendo. So you're saying that the 360 is better because it's not made by Nintendo? Portugal Sep 15, 2007, 01:20 PM Amen to that; mine needs to be sent off for the same reason. I am happy with it though... Oblivion, Rainbow Six, Gears... and Halo soon! Dont forget Gta IV! Lozzy_Ozzy Sep 15, 2007, 06:32 PM Dont forget Gta IV! Not to mention Haze, Army of Two, Assassins Creed, Burnout, Cry-on, DMC 4, Kane and Lynche, RE5... etc There are so many games I "need" to buy all the time. And Live just sucks away your life. :king: Aramazd Sep 15, 2007, 07:18 PM Wii has several good games for hardcore gamers (Twilight Princess and Metroid Prime 3) as well as great games for casual gamers. Wii is better all around, but Xbox 360 is better if your a hardcore gamer and anyone else playing it is a hardcore gamer. sirtommygunn Sep 15, 2007, 07:28 PM i have an XBOX360 but dont play it anymore because whenever i do the thing decides to give itself a heart attack and quit the game im playing just when im about to save it needless to say this is extremely frustrating and am about ready to sell the frigging thing because its so annoying. Red Door Sep 15, 2007, 09:43 PM So you're saying that the 360 is better because it's not made by Nintendo? It's one of many reasons why the 360 is better. azzaman333 Sep 16, 2007, 12:41 AM It's one of many reasons why the 360 is better. Why? XCLXCLXCL Love Sep 16, 2007, 05:41 AM BUT then its made by microsoft instead... sirtommygunn Sep 16, 2007, 09:37 AM here is a link to a review of the console war and each system i totally agree with http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/editorials/zeropunctuation/1383-Zero-Punctuation-Console-Rundown |
