Has anyone played this game? If not you should. Download the demo and get back to me and tell me what you think. Personally, from the little Ive played I think it's brilliant and has much potential.

Made by the 'Ground Control' team, which keeps my interest up. Otherwise it seems to be a 'cold-war gone hot' game set in the 80's. Also good :D
e350tb Sep 16, 2007, 01:36 AM I'm glad NATO is seperate from America. NATO=Britain=:D
taillesskangaru Sep 16, 2007, 03:22 AM I wanna play the Soviets... :(
777 Sep 16, 2007, 06:18 AM I started same thread awhile ago. Anyways, I tried MP beta and it was game like ten years ago :D Realistic 80s units we're kind of fun otherwise it was avarage RTS. It was stupid that you could shoot with Abrams or T-80 tens of time until it destroyed. BMP/Bradley ATGMs were lousy shots. Who had air superiority ruled big time. Hinds and Apaches were killers. Infantry seemed pathetic.
Single player campaign can be fun though, but it doesn't last forever so...doesn't beat Act of War.

Infantry is quite good actually. It's fast and mobile. In the right situation you can easily take out choppers and tanks. you just have to keep moving to avoid napalm strikes, chemical attacks, and daisy cutters. Infantry is also very good at ducking in and out of buildings to keep pressure on the opposing team.
777 Sep 16, 2007, 10:06 AM Ok, perhaps I didn't play enough to exploit infantry units.
leonel Sep 17, 2007, 03:19 PM Definitely getting it tomorrow. I'm a sucker for games that let me level downtown Seattle in a storm of fire and destruction. :D
Kozmos Sep 17, 2007, 04:50 PM Tried the demo, not too impressed.
leonel Sep 18, 2007, 09:36 PM Got the game! Love it! :D I'm amazed at the detail they put into downtown Seattle! The King Dome, the Alaska Way Viaduct even that cul-de-sac in front of Union Station with the billboard overlooking it!

I just ordered it from best buy yesterday I should have it within the week. I can wait to play multilayer on a few new maps.
Imrahil91 Sep 21, 2007, 05:49 PM Like the idea (reminds me of Red Alert^^), and I've read much good about it. Will get it tomorrow. Just hope my computer can handle it.
777 Sep 22, 2007, 10:47 AM Somebody who has tested beta and then bought original; tell if they've made any changes regarding gameplay and unit balances. Have to know before I buy it. Beta didn't convencie me at all.

So, how'd destroying Seattle go?
Mulholland Sep 23, 2007, 12:01 PM The single player mission is fun, but at times the voice acting leaves a little to be desired. Other than on the demo, I haven't tried the multiplayer yet. I'll save that for when I've exhausted the fun from the campaigns.
leonel Sep 25, 2007, 12:53 PM So, how'd destroying Seattle go?
Hella fun :D The main campaign has you rescuing civilians from the King Dome before it gets leveled by Russian artillery, you escape through a tunnel that leads to I-90 and you blow the I-90 bridge between Bainbridge island and Bellevue.
I really look forward to the map editor though! I want to recreate numerous Seattle locals such as Queen Anne, Boeing Field and the UW. I know a place where you can get decent satellite maps of US cities during the 80's so it shouldn't be difficult replicating places.
Surprisingly multiplayer is great fun! You don't have to worry about setting up infrastructure so you can just concentrate on fighting and airdropping units when you get the points. So far my favorite 'class' is artillery as I can sit back and just pound the enemy into the ground. :D
Kozmos Sep 25, 2007, 12:59 PM I heard multi is best 5v5 with each player taking a different role.
carmen510 Sep 25, 2007, 01:50 PM The same would be with CoH, but that's a much different game. :D
I love World of Conflict's demo, but I just got a DS, I won't buy some games for a while. Of course, I can get it for my birthday. :D
e350tb Sep 26, 2007, 04:21 AM Only four more weeks until I can get it...
Godwynn Sep 27, 2007, 03:21 PM Is the game linear? Like you have to do the mission the game wants, or can you choose where to attack?
I cannot wait to try out this game, I will love to kill commies!
Shylock Sep 27, 2007, 04:25 PM I like all the touches they put on it to make it authentic.
Like the Burger King (with original logo) in a cutscene or a Humvee playing Tears for Fears.
Also I was born the Fall of '89. Wolverines!

The missions are very linear. You're given an objective and a fixed number of resources to do it on a certain map.
The cool thing about the game is that you are rewarded on how well you play by being awarded tactical aid points. Once you've amassed a certain number you can call in tactical aid, which ranges from light artillery barrages to tactical nukes(very fun to use against the enemy).
Where this game really shines is Multiplayer. If you manage to get with players who wok as a team and a set of opponents who do the same you're in for a good 20 min slugfest.
I don't think this game is as addictive as CIV 4 but it is indeed pretty and alot of fun.
carmen510 Sep 29, 2007, 03:34 PM I just got the Collector's Edition, and it is sweet! :D
mythmonster2 Sep 29, 2007, 09:10 PM Well, I can't play this game due to a sucky computer, but is Houston in it? :D

No. The only US cities are a couple rural Washington towns, Seattle, and New York. The Maps aren't huge, a la Grand Theft Auto, but when you take into account how spectacular the graphics are they're a good size. The maps are rendered in 3D and hills and buildings break enemy lines of sight, and your own, leaving plenty of opportunity for ambushes.
Kozmos Sep 30, 2007, 08:17 AM And Infantry can easily move though destroyed buildings.

D.C. suburbs anyone? I live in one. (in South Riding, VA to be precise)
carmen510 Sep 30, 2007, 05:38 PM Na. They had an unreleased cutscene featuring a nuke detonating in DC, but that was removed from the game. You can only get it in Collector's Edition.
But it'll be released in the expansion. ;)
Ancient Grudge Oct 16, 2007, 05:31 PM If anyone is intrested in joining a clan me and my best mate have just started one...literally. Hoping to get a dedicated server by the end of the month.

carmen510 Oct 23, 2007, 03:48 PM How come the most nukes I've seen always fall in the desert map with the missile launch pads? :p
truckingpete Oct 24, 2007, 09:39 PM Right now I am playing the demo and I like it!
Im waiting until the price goes down or the game goes on sale:goodjob:
carmen510 Oct 25, 2007, 03:37 PM If you can, buy Collector's Edition, so worth it.
