OK, people. Let's work this like we know what we're doing. We are about to gain a lot of Techs from the tribes we know. All we need is gold and a desire to learn. Tell me what you think, as a team. What should we aim for, and how we should get there.

We need:
Engineering
Theology
Feudalism
Education
Invention
Gunpowder
Banking
Astronomy
Economics
Chemistry
Metallurgy
Navigation

Council says: Theo/Engineering is a done deal (I think we paid too much). They are thinking about selling us Education, Feudalism, and Invention.
Prices will probably remain static: HIGH

GONG says: Contact w/Free is free. I just need to get it. They also want to underbid The Council in Tech prices.

We should follow through on our commited tech deal (let's not piss off any tribes except Babe) and prioritize Education (we've got those University pre-builds). As gold permits, I'd like to get to a point on one of the trees where we could research an unknown tech. Possibly even a research agreement with a tribe to co-research a pair of techs (ToG & Magnetism comes to mind).

I have no problem commiting our IA tech to get us tech parity (I wouldn't commit the MA tech at this point however). We are an SCI tribe and have been adding infrastructure for commerce & research. Let's get to a point where we can use that to our advantage.

Gong's offer of tech parity is interesting. It would be nice to split Gong from Babe and join with them. I'm thinking a lot of the world is so pleased with Babe that they'll be around long after the first nukes are built :nuke:  . As for luxury deals, make as many as possible, as they'll strengthen our ties to the other tribes.

We don't need Economics or Navigation to advance to the Industrial Age, but we do need Physics, Magnetism, and Theory of Gravity. The only optional tech I think we should research (or buy) is Military Tradition.

I think our priorities (once the Council gives us Education) should be Banking and Astronomy, but there is some chance GONG doesn't have either yet (they are more likely to have Astronomy than Banking, I think). After that, we don't have any choices for a while - it has to be Feudalism, Invention, Gunpowder and Chemistry in that order.

We have given the gold for Theo/Eng already, have we not? If not, when is this supposed to happen? When will we actually receive the Techs? Those Techs cost us 33% of monopoly cost? How can I verify that? Is there a formula?(Sorry, I'm new at this.)

Has the Council made a prior offer (price-wise) yet? I've read alot of the gmails and diplomacy threads, but I realize things happen that aren't always documented. But I'm pretty much up to speed... I think. :crazyeye:

GONG wants to underbid those guys, so we should probably haggle the price down some. Should I tell Gong they'll have to beat 32% (and what is that in gold?)?

I'm full of questions.

We have given the gold for Theology and Engineering. When we receive the save this turn, we should have those 2 techs.

Here are the tech costs for the Middle Age techs (base cost from the editor and cost in gold for this map):

Chivalry - 32 = 960
Feudalism - 32 = 960
Engineering - 36 = 1080
Monotheism - 36 = 1080
Printing Press - 36 = 1080
Music Theory - 40 = 1200
Theology - 40 = 1200
Education - 44 = 1320
Invention - 44 = 1320
Gunpowder - 48 = 1440
Banking - 52 = 1560
Free Artistry - 52 = 1560
Astronomy - 56 = 1680
Navigation - 56 = 1680
Economics - 56 = 1680
Chemistry - 60 = 1800
Metallurgy - 64 = 1920
Military Tradition - 64 = 1920
Physics - 64 = 1920
Democracy - 68 = 2040
Magnetism - 68 = 2040
Theory of Gravity - 68 = 2040

We sent the Council 772 gold last turn:

33% of 1080 = 356 for Engineering
33% of 1200 = 396 for Theology
plus 20 gold for the DAB treaty

We should get the best price we can from GONG - approach it however you think you can get them the lowest. Just keep in mind that they can talk to Council, so lying may come back to haunt us.

Question -
Doesn't the Tech cost drop the closer all tribes get to the Tech? Or isn't the adjusted cost considered monopoly cost? As we move closer to parity, can't we set our own standard kind of like a sliding scale (or spiraling scale)? :)

I guess what I'm trying to ask is does the monopoly cost have major precedence in MTDGs and is it written in stone or can we make up our own rules.

And thanks for the MA costs.

We can do whatever we want, but monopoly cost is easy to refer to as a starting point - every team knows what the monopoly cost is, and most people think the price for selling should be somehow related to the cost of the tech.

Our cost to research drops by about 12% for every tribe we know that has the tech. For example, we know 3 tribes with Engineering right now - our cost to self-research would be about 1080 * (1 - 3*12%) = 691, or 64% of monopoly cost. We paid 33% of monopoly - a little more than half of what it would cost to self-research.

Too cool. Thank you very much for the info.
