View Full Version : United States Marine Corps

This is another preview unit for my mod, History in the Making (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=226568). It is a UU for the American Civilization, replacing the Marine (and taking the place of the Navy SEAL):
http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/16661/USMC-3.jpg
This could also be used for a "Modern Infantry" unit as well.
I used the modern-looking Anti-Tank infantry that came with BtS as a base, and modified the .dds files to change the uniform colors. I also swapped out the rocket launcher for the M-16.
It uses the Marines animations!
If you use this unit, all I ask for is credit for it's creation. :)

bernie14 Sep 17, 2007, 11:34 PM that is is a NICE looking unit!!! love the flak jacket
keldath Sep 18, 2007, 09:05 AM perfect for my mod :)
great looking unit
geminisama Sep 18, 2007, 10:23 AM Very sexy.. but replacing the SEAL? D: Can't we have both? :P
Gaius Octavius Sep 18, 2007, 10:41 AM I like this! :D I may use it in the BtS version of WWII in the Pacific.
Love how in the screenshot you stacked those Marines against the jihadists.
snipperrabbit!! Sep 18, 2007, 10:57 AM gemini : just make a UNITCLASS for special ops and make the SEALS a UU for that class. I would make them belonging to recon units with caped damages done ...
Grave Sep 19, 2007, 06:49 AM Love how in the screenshot you stacked those Marines against the jihadists.
Yeah, I had fun making that screenshot! :ar15: :run:
Glad you guys like it! I thought it came out pretty good, too.
Marine0303604 Sep 19, 2007, 07:01 AM UU-RAAAH!!!:goodjob:

gpshaw Oct 23, 2007, 12:50 PM Sempier Fi Good unit, I have the utmost respect for Marines they're the toughest of the tough.
PvtCarrow, USMC Jan 07, 2008, 11:14 PM Hey everyone I'm really sorry for this MASSIVE necro but there was just no way I could pass this skin up, it's just that awesome, but my problem is that I have no idea how to get it to work with BtS...anyone care to help me out? Once again, I'm REALLY sorry for digging up this old a topic, I know it's a cardinal sin, but like I said this skin is worth it to me, and I have no idea how to do it on my own or I'd never have bothered y'all for it. Thanks in advance for any help, Oorah and Semper Fi.
snafusmith Jan 07, 2008, 11:34 PM Try this (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=176460) tutorial.
PvtCarrow, USMC Jan 08, 2008, 12:37 AM Thanks for the help, but I'm too dumb even for that tutorial, I tried it earlier today and it didn't help me at all. I think the file isn't compatible with BtS, is that possible or should it be working?
The biggest thing I was confused on in the tutorial though was that it was oriented towards adding a whole new unit as part of a mod, I just want to replace the Navy SEAL skin. I'm a Marine Grunt, I need you to break it down Barney-style for me, coz Muscles-Are-Required-Intelligence-Not-Essential, oorah? :crazyeye:
Chuggi Jan 08, 2008, 03:22 AM Maybe you're not cut out for modding? ;)
Make sure you read through the entire tutorial and post questions there about which parts you don't understand or what problems you're getting.
Gaius Octavius Jan 08, 2008, 05:58 AM Well, to be honest, some of that tutorial is a little out of date, since BtS changed the way art is handled slightly... but it shouldn't be enough to create massive problems.
Wolfshanze Jan 08, 2008, 10:05 AM Well, to be honest, some of that tutorial is a little out of date, since BtS changed the way art is handled slightly... but it shouldn't be enough to create massive problems.
Yeah... there should be a tutorial for BtS unit swapping/flavor units. Of course, it's actually easier in BtS then it was in Vanilla or Warlords.
PvtCarrow, USMC Jan 08, 2008, 05:52 PM Really? It doesn't make much more sense to me, but thanks guys, I'll read over it again and see if I can find an answer. Like I said, I'm not the most 1337 h4xz0r out there, so hopefully I can finally find the solution...
bernie14 Jan 11, 2008, 07:19 PM hello my friends, in an effort to help a marine, i made this little "mod".....
USMC (http://forums.civfanatics.com/uploads/109719/USMC.zip)
so that our marine friend could properly deal with some evil doers.... unfortunately, it has not worked for him (it works for me) and i was wondering if someone else could shed some light on this dilema....
THANKS :)
Seaman Sample Jan 11, 2008, 09:13 PM Honestly, that reskin is not very good. It is inaccurate and ugly. Sorry for the harsh words, just my opinion.
Chuggi Jan 12, 2008, 07:27 AM The texture isn't actually made by Grave, it was made by Firaxis for the Next War mod :) :)
Chuggi Jan 12, 2008, 07:28 AM Although it was editted by him, oops didn't read that before lol :o :) :p
PvtCarrow, USMC Jan 13, 2008, 12:23 AM Well, I never did get the skin to work in the regular game, but I went ahead and installed the whole History in the Making mod, and have to say I'm very impressed; I refuse to play without it now, so the problem is solved :)

glad to hear it, carry on!! :)
PvtCarrow, USMC Jan 13, 2008, 12:39 PM Oorah, thanks for your help in trying to figure out what was wrong. Semper Fi sir.
surdanis Feb 23, 2008, 04:17 AM ... Where are the sleeves? We are known as "White Sleeves" among the Iraqis because when we do roll our sleeves up, the underside shows out as "white"--as opposed to the Army's blouse, which doesn't.
Beware the "White Sleeves!"

Beware the "White Sleeves!"
The Army's blouse is just as white as the Marines... same with the Air Force... it's all a matter of regulations... the Army and Air Force have to fold-down the outside of the uniform over the rolled-up portion, so you don't see the inside of the uniform (required by regulation)... this is a little trickier and more complex a maneuver that requires some clever folding... the Marines have never been able to figure this out, so they just roll it up the simple way (allowed by regulation).
It has nothing to do with the uniform, it has everything to do with how it's folded. As a 20-year vet I'm very familiar with all the services dress regulations!
surdanis Feb 23, 2008, 10:14 AM I like the way we fold it. What I was saying is that the model doesn't accurately represent how a Marine would look in the field. Obviously, he'd have his sleeves down. But I was saying was that if we WERE to have the sleeves up, they'd have the white showing. Many pardons for not being familiar with the Army sleeves.
kingme02 Feb 26, 2008, 06:09 AM Hooah! Move Out!
surdanis Feb 27, 2008, 03:30 AM Hooah! Move Out!
Army, huh? We say Ooh-rah!
JEELEN Feb 27, 2008, 01:00 PM Oooo... those poor little Warriors!
GarretSidzaka Feb 28, 2008, 01:00 AM LOL good work.
its funny coz i made that same exact unit for Second Revolution, but i havent released the version or the graphics. did you reanimate this yourself? It looks really good :goodjob:
surdanis Feb 28, 2008, 07:05 AM GarretSidzaka...
I really need your help. I've read all that I can get about learning how to animate in 3ds Max, but alas, I have 2008 version!
Plz, if you know where I can 3ds Max 7...! Or whichever one can use the darn Civ 4 plugins!
MurdockTheCrazy Mar 09, 2008, 04:00 AM Error, file not found... I seem to get this a lot when I try to download unit files.
GeoModder Mar 09, 2008, 04:38 AM Error, file not found... I seem to get this a lot when I try to download unit files.
That's because a hacker deleted the upload database, everything posted after July 23 was affected and not everyone was able to upload his/her work again. Not to mention those artists who uploaded something here and haven't come back here since then.
saneman Apr 16, 2008, 02:46 AM anyone else have this?
Grave Apr 16, 2008, 05:06 PM THIS MOD IS NO LONGER SUPPORTED BY ME, AND THE DOWNLOAD LINK HAS BEEN TAKEN DOWN.
If you would still like to play with this mod, I suggest you download my History in the Making Mod (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=226568).
Thanks,
Grave
Wodin Apr 21, 2008, 04:05 PM Marines,
I was excited to be passing through Philadelphia for the first time later this week. My bros and I were going to raise a pint at Tun Tavern, but it's no longer there! It is now interstate.
'll keep an eye out for the graphics pack.
