Whitefire Sep 18, 2007, 08:05 PM This will be the final release, with only bug fixes and SP RFC changes added in.
Changes from SP RFC.
No civ switching in-game. You must leave and re-enter as the new civ.
No option to refuse city flips.
No world congresses.
No Mercenaries
Date: Oct 7th, 10am PST.
We would appreciate a large group of players for this.
Theodorick Sep 18, 2007, 09:49 PM Where do I sign up?
Can I be Russia?
Also where there be a few rules laid down? Like 'no waiting by a player's spawn point with the intention of destroying them in the first few turns of their spawn?' XD
Whitefire Sep 18, 2007, 10:26 PM Also where there be a few rules laid down? Like 'no waiting by a player's spawn point with the intention of destroying them in the first few turns of their spawn?' XD
Please explain to me why this is a bad thing.
KaiserBenjamin Sep 19, 2007, 02:14 AM Wow! How have I not heard more about this??? Do you have an estimate for when it will be available for public download?

October 7th. The current version we're working on is for the upcoming patch, so we can't release it before Firaxis does. Here's the thread on the previous version. (http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=238054) Although, the 3.03 version is not available to download anymore and we don't have a working version for 3.03.
memdee Sep 19, 2007, 05:00 AM Am i assuming correctly 10 AM PST would be 6 PM GMT?
If yes, count me in for one of the earlier civs ;)
onedreamer Sep 19, 2007, 06:03 AM Should be Monday, October the 8th, 19:00 CEST. Why not during the weekend ?
I can be present, my wife too if you need more ppl.
Btw I have the older version, I'll upload it somewhere and update this post later today.
Rhye Sep 19, 2007, 06:13 AM Btw I have the older version, I'll upload it somewhere and update this post later today.
Why? Don't do that, thank you.
Śmarth Sep 19, 2007, 09:48 AM The 8th? Unless that's a bank holiday I won't be able to play. I'd like to though, isn't there any chance of doing it on a weekend?
Theodorick Sep 19, 2007, 10:53 AM Please explain to me why this is a bad thing.
Isn't it obvious? I could see someone spending a lot of their resources on planning to topple you within the first handful of turns, and that would totally ruin it for the one spawning because they obviously can't plan for it :P If more than one person does this, a few civilizations won't even have a chance to get past their first turn. In normal 1 player game you obviously don't have to worry about this. The thing about this mod going mp is if you give a bit of study you KNOW when and where others will spawn, so it's so easy to take advantage of that.
Mayan ripping the Aztecs apart within 1 turn is one example of it. I've done it a few times myself in single player. I once even waited by the Russian's spawn as Greece, and ousted them.
Whitefire Sep 19, 2007, 11:56 AM The 7th? Unless that's a bank holiday I won't be able to play. I'd like to though, isn't there any chance of doing it on a weekend?
*cough* It is on a weekend...*cough*

See, that version is broken. This new, shiny, version has tacked down most of the OOS issues.
onedreamer Sep 19, 2007, 12:46 PM If you spend resources to do that (Mayas wiping Aztecs that spawn with Longbowmen on Hills require quite some planning eh) then most likely, in a MP game, you will see someone else win. I'm unsure how smart it would be to do that.... provided you play to win and not just to wipe the last come.

Actually a great way to ensure you'll win the Mayan UHV is to obliterate the Aztecs on the turn they spawn. There's even been a guide released that has this technique in it.
onedreamer Sep 19, 2007, 05:44 PM Maybe, but I don't see anything great with it, and good luck with winning the Mayan UHV in MP, the other players will surely let you build the Temple of Kukulkan first...

Well I don't think most UHV's are possible in MP BTS, so I wouldn't bother with it if I were playing the Mayans. But if I stomped out the Aztec early, and grabbed that rather productive land, there's a higher chance I'll survive the game, and a slight chance I may win through other means. I doubt I'd be the only one thinking this way!
I guess my point is, for the sake of trying to win, some players might spend their resources planning to attack a spawn. Portugal, Aztec, and even Ethiopia come to mind.
Whitefire Sep 19, 2007, 07:23 PM Anyone who wants to join the New World Alliance, let me know. Our goal will be to protect our lands from the pale face.
a1Basco Sep 19, 2007, 08:08 PM Will it be hotseat compatible?
Dumb question, I know..

you could think to a system similar to advanced starts (10 turns of forced peace upon spawn), but that would be a problem with new civs that spawn and take over previous civs cities. Although, now that I think about it, the previous MP version would make cities flip without older civs having a chance to refuse and declare war, so maybe the 10 turns forced peace is doable ?

I'll be Spain.
Edit, could you edit your first post and write up everyone who's signed up?
Śmarth Sep 20, 2007, 10:23 AM *cough* It is on a weekend...*cough*
Hehe, count me in then.
Theodorick Sep 20, 2007, 11:30 AM I'm still Russia!
Śmarth Sep 20, 2007, 11:40 AM Are we starting from 3000bc?
Al-Iskander Sep 20, 2007, 08:55 PM I would love to take part in this, but sadly I can't due to being in a wildly inappropriate time zone, not having internet access at home, and not actually having the game out here anyway.
Anyhow, will you be posting screenshots after the game is through? I'd love to see what a multiplayer game ends up looking like in the Rhye's mod.

It looks exactly the same.
EDIT: How about a teaser of the current game Rhye and I are testing?
Rhye Sep 21, 2007, 04:44 AM Our test is going pretty well this time.
If this luck continues, the Oct 7th could be a inauguration of 1.0 rather than a test.
TheAmerican Sep 21, 2007, 06:57 PM Did I miss it?
Al-Iskander Sep 23, 2007, 08:14 PM Whitefire, a teaser would be cool :)
Whitefire Sep 26, 2007, 07:19 PM My mighty Roman empire. With 7 vassals in tow.

dionysos2048 Sep 27, 2007, 05:26 AM Impressive. How did you manage with stability?
Rhye Sep 27, 2007, 09:35 AM and I'm one of the vassals
senturus Sep 27, 2007, 11:33 AM This is a screenshots of a multiplayer version of the mod?
Amazing.
JP Vieira Sep 27, 2007, 11:35 AM How do you keep it...?
dionysos2048 Sep 27, 2007, 01:57 PM and I'm one of the vassals
So much for playing one game in 2 years  Let me guess, you played as Ethiopia.
@ Whitefire making Rhye a vassal is truely a deity victory.
Seriously, though, it's great that you can make a human player a vassal.
This mode really looks promising.
What kind of platform do you have in mind to get people together for MP games? This very forum or something else?
Rhye Sep 27, 2007, 06:18 PM i think i'll open a sub-forum
TheAmerican Sep 27, 2007, 10:06 PM I can't wait to play.
Whitefire Sep 29, 2007, 12:31 AM Impressive. How did you manage with stability?
Rome has lenient expansion penalties, so the mount of territory isn't problematic. Also, the stability bonuses from vassals pile up quickly, and I would recommend smaller nations becoming vassals of more expansive ones (Mongolia, Rome, Arabia, Spain, etc.) to benefit your team. The only time I lost cities was after I jumped into Universal Sufferage and Emancipation. The ensuing great depression caused Egypt to rise, which I quickly smushed 4 turns later.
With smart teching and tech trading with Rhye, we were able to get Medicine in ~1500 AD, which allowed us to miss the last 2 waves of it. With 3 players working in concert, you could conceivably tech Medicine in the 1300s, letting you mis 3 plagues. In that screenshot, I was just starting on Combustion and Rhye was about to finish Assembly Line. With Destroyers and Infantry, I was going to march through China to link up my Empire, then take out those pesky Euros to make a empire that spans from Londinium to Tokyo. There's not much challenge when it's 2 players vs. the AIs, hopefully a number of players on other players will increase the intrigue.
Rhye Sep 29, 2007, 03:11 AM I think that "no tech brokering" should always be enabled in MP
dionysos2048 Sep 29, 2007, 05:57 AM Very interesting.
And what civ was Rhye?
Śmarth Sep 29, 2007, 12:18 PM Looks very fun, and kudos for beating Rhye at his own game :P
Whitefire Sep 29, 2007, 05:21 PM I think that "no tech brokering" should always be enabled in MP
What will that fix? Presumably, the players working together will follow specific tech paths separate from one another. They'll still be able to trade the techs they research to one another freely. It's doubtful that another player team will trade with them, so tech brokering never places a restriction on tech trading.
Rhye Sep 29, 2007, 08:07 PM well at least it would limit this exploit to just 2 players
Whitefire Sep 29, 2007, 08:42 PM well at least it would limit this exploit to just 2 players
If you discover a tech, you can trade it to anyone. So the exploit will work regardless of the number of people in a team.
onedreamer Oct 02, 2007, 07:40 AM I wonder how do the techs awarded at start count for the "tech brokering" system. Do they count as if the civ researched them or not ?
Radunz Oct 04, 2007, 07:51 AM May i aply to , i will be Hanibal of Carthage, and what we gona use for the multiplayer game??? direct ip, gamespy etc.....
Rhye Oct 04, 2007, 05:11 PM hi Dimitri,
first the new BTS patch must be released, then if everything works we'll announce everything here
Radunz Oct 04, 2007, 09:54 PM Ok i will be waiting ^^
grant2004 Oct 05, 2007, 10:26 PM I wonder, is a vanilla RFC being developed for multi player? I know it must be difficult to do the coding to make a huge mod like this multi player compatible for one version of the game, 3 must be ungodly. I'd probably assume vanilla RFC multi player would be developed last if at all, however if such a thing is in existence, I would be very excited to know about it.
Rhye Oct 06, 2007, 03:21 AM no, it's not gonna be.
Imagine that every little change I make, I've got to export it to all the 4 versions (the 3 + MP). Which will sooner or later become 5 (random map version).
Imagine if there were 3 MP...
dionysos2048 Oct 06, 2007, 04:27 AM (random map version).
Amazing news! When? It's got to be really soon if you talk about it. Please give us a few more details on that. Like are civs going to spawn at the same dates for example? Will we be able to play on a Europe map?
Rhye Oct 06, 2007, 05:13 AM no, not soon. It'll begin when no more adjustments are needed and MP is released.
There's already a thread about it somewhere.
TheAmerican Oct 06, 2007, 07:50 PM I'll be here for the October 7th game/release. If its possible, I'd like to reserve the Vikings, and possibly the Americans.
Śmarth Oct 07, 2007, 05:28 AM Today then. Are we starting from 3000BC?
Rhye Oct 07, 2007, 06:19 AM it's entirely up to Whitefire.
I'll be online from 6 to 7 PM GMT+1 (9 to 10 AM Pacific)
You can add me on MSN, ICQ, YIM at that time so that I can send you the links of the download
TheAmerican Oct 07, 2007, 08:46 AM I will be on at around 3pm Rhye's time, after I pick up my pay check.
@Rhye What is your MSN?
Sette7 Oct 07, 2007, 10:08 AM hoho.
where's the dl link? where are you.
Rhye Oct 07, 2007, 11:19 AM my MSN, as well as my other IM are written on the readme.
I'm online now and be going in less than one hour
Śmarth Oct 07, 2007, 12:28 PM Well I added your msn but I missed you. Damn :/
Jet Oct 07, 2007, 12:51 PM What's going on?
TheAmerican Oct 07, 2007, 01:46 PM I think I might have missed it.
dionysos2048 Oct 08, 2007, 03:12 AM So how did yesterday's game go?
onedreamer Oct 08, 2007, 07:12 AM yeah I couldn't make it sorry. But is there a chance to have the updated MP version ? ;)
Whitefire Oct 08, 2007, 07:02 PM I'm sorry guys. I just moved into a dorm and they effed me on the internet connection. I can't connect form my room and, on top of that, their router went down on Friday and their tech guy was gone. So it wasn't fixed until today. What pissed me off most is that they wouldn't let me check out the router (which only needed a cable jiggled since it had come lose).
Bob III Oct 12, 2007, 03:29 PM So... will multiplayer Rhye's be released soon? I'd really like to get a game going. :)
Zhuge_Liang Oct 13, 2007, 07:50 AM Multiplayer Mod of Rhye's? Excited about it.
Gyprsn Oct 13, 2007, 04:24 PM I'm excited as well
