I'd definately try it out, the previews look SIICKKK!!! I love the console verison of games because:

1. No freezing
2. Better graphics
3. Minimal lag
4. Does not hog RAM and VIrtual Memory with all those graphics.
5. All consoles are meant to handle extreme graphics, computer, not so much.

5. All consoles are meant to handle extreme graphics, computer, not so much.

Quite the contrary, the high-end computers (e6600 8800GTS/GTX based PC's) are the ones suited for extreme graphics with resolutions and details much higher than Xbox 360 or PS3. What consoles are excellent at are providing a medium which enables one to play at relatively high graphics for cheaper than a computer similar in power.

This has been done before with Civ2 for the ps1. It played pretty much like the pc
version, but cut down a lot. On a large map the ps1 would run out of memory and start crashing just as you were about to take down your last rival. On today's consoles, none of that is going to be a problem. The problem I see is that most of the console crowd is Halo type game oriented. Is that market going to be interested in a game that requires long term strategys, as opposed to imediate kills? I'll be first in line for the DS version, as I've always wished I could be playing civ somewhere where you're forced to kill time in a waiting room or something. I heard there was even a cellphone version of civ2, is that true?

I dont care if its 'dumbed down', I can play real civ on the PC and simplified civ on the PSP when I am on the go. Its probably better if its simplified for a portable because I dont have the time for a full game of real civ when I am playing for quick periods of time on a portable device. I say bravo to Firaxis for finally filling in this niche need. :goodjob:

Jesus Christ, what's with all the elitists? I think it's great that they're expanding the market for the game, in addition to make it portable. There's no reason to whine about it not appearing on PCs, because that's not at all what its for. When Civ V comes around, I'm certain it'll be as complex as your heart desires. For now, why not people who like less cerebral games have a chance to enjoy Civillization?

The thing is, this game is geared directly FOR consoles. It's streamlined, simplified and compacted. Releasing it on the PC would be disastorous, because people would take it as the succesor to Civ IV, which it ISN'T. People would expect a far more complex product, and they'd end up getting a simplified that was built for consoles, and not PCs.

I'm almost certain that they will release a Civ V that will be everything we expect from a sequel to Civ IV, and I'm equally certain it'd be released for the PC.

You obviously have never gotten a decent system together.

You assume his rig is substandard. He could have a great machine but since it's not a big name brand it might have bugs when playing the game which initially had some compatibility issues.

Anyway....I'm so glad that Firaxis decided to venture into the console game industry. I believe the die hard Civ. grognards will never be satisfied but open minded gamers should value Revolutions. This game may even reach a greater audience and convert some console gamers into PC gamers just to have a go at CivIV BtS. ;)

Now I suppose I shouldn't open the can of worms by asking on which system will Revolutions rock the most on? :mischief:

I never said it was bad... I just said I wouldn't buy it. It is good for people who dont have the right computers to run civ4 or want to play it on the go. Also, its a more fluid gameplay style... its not meant for serious gamers, but as a way to get to a different population of gamers and people, who like I said, are tired of getting super lag on the consoles. Also, it has a different way of playing.

anyhow on a more serious note... you couldnt have civ 4 as is on console, navigation of controls would be a nightmare with minimal shortcut keys. So they HAVE to change it to release it on console. And changed it enough to warrant a name change aswell which is thumbs up for effort from me, for not just porting and chopping civ 4 in half.

Most of us would prefer to play original civ 4 on pc for the depth, but there are a lot of people out there that play console and never touched civ. its a huge market, and if you think back, the original civ was very simple compared to civ 4 alone, not even including expanions. It's all about the gameplay that makes it fun! :)

My consideration is multiplayer? I assume they would be aiming at online multiplayer? you have to admit it would be fun to play some counter strike leet and show him what real gaming is about :)

And yer, also would get more interest in civ as a franchise, and that is always a good thing no? it's so hard to go to a lan party and convince anyone to play civ you know? So i'm supporting this, and just think, you don't have to buy it for yourself, you buy it for your console playing friend or family member for xmas or a birthday :D

Stop . .. .. .. .. .in' about how Civ: Revolution is going to suck.

1. You know that Sid Meier and Firaxis crank out quality games, and PC ports to consoles have been successful. Look at C&C3!

2. Regardless if it does suck, it will bring more people into the gaming fold, whether their parents like it or not. Not everyone can afford high-end PCs.

3. Noone will expect a dumbed-down strategy game to appear on PCs. That would be a foolish mistake.

4. I think Xavier Von Erck hates 12 year olds because he kept on getting pwned on Civ3/4 by 12 year olds. :D :joke:

I really hope Firaxis design this game right. It has the promise of the best civ for multi-player. Even though civ4 was designed with multi-player in mind, in reality it's just take too much time to play a whole game. Not many gamers are willing stay in a game for hours knowing they are in a losing position. So most games (ladders) is a race to who have the highest score in 100-150 turns. Hopefully with Rev the space race will actually be a factor in multi-player.

I think the best way to tell who Civ Revolutions appeals to is to look at this thread:

All the people who can't even put together full coherent sentences or spell properly like the idea of Civ Revolutions.

The people who don't want the game "simplified" and are mad that they are not working on Civ 5 can communicate like an actual human person.

Coincidence?

With that all being said, I wish they were working on Civ 5, but as far as Civ Revolutions goes...as long as they don't try to make it Civ 5 but a totally different game all together, and they are not abandoning the PC...then I GUESS I am OK with it. Only problem is that if I remember right, Sid said some pretty stupid things that indicated he likes consoles, so I can only hope that Civ as we know it isn't going to die.

I'm going to be very happy with this game. Why? For the simple reason that I have X-Box live, but am getting tired of only using it for FPS games. An X-box TBS game made by Sid? I'm definately going to give it a try. Oh, and it won't take 18 hours to complete the game? Wow, I might actually play multiplayer Civ for once.

Cut the elitist crap out. There is a lack of strategy games in general for console systems, so this game should sell decently at least. If it sells well, that'll be big profits that can be used to FUND Civ 5 for PC.
