Can anyone give me sure-fire ways to get Civ 1 for Dos (Civ for Win just isnt the same!!!) to play WITH Soundblaster sounds (or no sounds) on Windows ME at the proper speed (unit animations being the culprit).
I remember someone saying something about an x86 emulator for PC but i cant find it on the net.
The PC Speaker sounds were interesting for a while but theyre really f**** me off now!!

I have always had problems running Civ in Windows at all.
With the whole computer in DOS mode, you can use IBM sounds or no sounds at all. After all, it is a DOS game.

Groovin', try starting the game with sounds (PC speaker) and then disabling them in-game using the options. It works for me (I had the same problem).

If you're running ME, Press F8 on boot up and choose "Command Prompt" as your boot up option. You'll be in DOS.

Press F8 a few times, and QUICKLY! :)
Once the Windows screen shows up, it's too late.

Thanks! that worked fine, without having to boot from dos. Might have to find some old soundblaster drivers (for dos) and get the proper sound running.
But im thinking i might just pick up an old 386 / 486 and save myself the headaches!
