I just installed beyond the sword. It played fine. When I built the oracle it went to the screen that is supposed to show the oracle being built (assuming this because thats what happens in Civ4). The window is black though, no building is shown. Then it says Windows has encountered an error and needs to close. Then it closes.
I went back to the last auto save and played again. Same thing.
Third time, same thing.
Any idea whats up?

does this happen with every wonder you build?

I don't know. The oracle is the first wonder I have built. Today I'll go back to the last save and switch wonders to see. Then I'll let you know.
I suspect it's the video card. It's a GeForce 6150 LE. Onboard.

Try the following:
open the CivilizationIV.ini (in your My Games folder) wit ha texteditor, one of the options you can set in there is to not show wonder movies, set that to 1 and then retry building the oracle...

Try this option:
; Dont show the game background during movies - may speed up movie playing
HideMovieBackground = 0
Set this to 1 - this still allows you to see the movies but sometimes the graphics card gets all worked up because it also has to draw the map in the background. Maybe this helps fix the crash.

ok, so I tried a different wonder and same thing. I'll try your suggestion to not show map during wonder building.
Let you know...

YES!!!
Not having the background show when the wonder is being built worked.
Thanks so much!
